Have most over 80s been called for vaccine now?

JumboShiitake · 08/01/2021 07:43

Do you have a family member over 80 who has not had the call yet?

My DF still hasn't heard. All other family members over 80 have had already theirs, or have appointments this week.

He has underlying conditions that would put him at particular risk and he's refusing to shield Hmm so hoping it won't be much longer.

In my area they've done the care homes (and some healthcare workers) first. They've not started community vaccinations yet. Apparently they've more or less finished the care homes now and will have the Oxford vaccine from 11th, so will be able to get started on the over 80s living at home.

Karmatime · 08/01/2021 08:43

My parents, 85 & 82, both ECV and shielded have heard nothing, they live in sparsely populated rural area which may be lagging behind big cities?

unicornparty · 08/01/2021 08:47

My in laws are in their 80s and have already had both doses so they're completely done.

tealady · 08/01/2021 08:48

Mum(84) and MIL(81) at opposite ends of the country and neither have heard anything. Uncle(90) and Aunt(80 and ECV) are about to have second jab.

Bazookapie · 08/01/2021 08:51

DM aged 92 in a care home, they have all the consents and paperwork ready but no idea when they will be done.
MIL aged 88 currently in hospital after a fall, nothing for her yet.
Neighbour aged 83 with severe heart problems not heard anything either.
My GP is still holding flu sessions, did NYE and Jan 1st and has another this Friday evening.

Grapesoda7 · 08/01/2021 08:52

My dad, Auntie and neighbour all in 80s had theirs a couple of weeks ago. My mom in mid 70s is having hers tomorrow. They seem to be getting through them quickly by me.

Thesearmsofmine · 08/01/2021 08:54

No, it’s been delayed in our area,

toptomatoes · 08/01/2021 08:55

Nope - no one has been called yet in my family, including 2 aged 97 and 90.

JumboShiitake · 08/01/2021 08:56

@RoganJosh great link, thank you!

My nana (90s, in a Leicestershire carehome) hasn't had hers yet - though she has already had covid (confirmed positive test in the spring) and recovered! - but my boss (early 80s, London, living independently) has had both his jabs. Must vary quite a lot between areas!

movingonup20 · 08/01/2021 08:57

No, only a couple of people I know have because they had hospital appointments. Those in more rural areas is logistically tricky anyway

Hobbesmanc · 08/01/2021 08:59

I thought stats were than almost 1 in 4 over eighties has had it? I know in our suburb yesterday they were doing the care homes and sheltered accomodation plus a big hub in the local Clinic.

Neither my father (86 lung cancer) Norfolk or my in laws- housebound Yorks have had it but I'm confident they will in the next few weeks.

Despite how poorly we have performed as a nation in our Covid response, I feel less negative about this- there seems to be some progress to celebrate

movingonup20 · 08/01/2021 08:59

Ps think it might be alphabetical where I used to live, my friends with surnames at the beginning of the alphabet have been called but those after G not yet!

mrshoho · 08/01/2021 09:01

My Mum was due her second one on Saturday. We hadn't heard from them so phoned to double check it was all still going ahead but they said no it will be postponed. Why are some still getting the second after three weeks and others not?

Gonegrey31 · 08/01/2021 09:02

my 101 year old aunt has not been called, I'm trying to get appointment for her. She lives in a sheltered housing complex (not a care home). Severely deaf so can't use a phone. Her mail is checked and nothing so far. Her GP surgery hung up on me when I (very politely) asked when they would see her.

By contrast, my 89 year old mother has had both doses of the Pfizer vaccine, second one yesterday, hooray....

chipsandpeas · 08/01/2021 09:03

my mums not heard yet

ilovecherries · 08/01/2021 09:04

My parents are 88 and dad is very ill. I was on the phone to his gp yesterday for something else and I asked if he had any feeling for what the timeline might be for them, and he said ‘oh you could pop them down tomorrow if you want’. I’m very glad but it seemed a bit random!

Bagelsandbrie · 08/01/2021 09:06

I have no idea how true this is but yesterday a councillor for our local area (South Norfolk) said they’ve done 40% of the over 80s in our area.

WeeDangerousSpike · 08/01/2021 09:09

94yr old GM not heard anything yet, even though she had a full day outpatient appointment at one of the Pfizer vaccine hub hospitals a couple of weeks ago.

ProudAuntie76 · 08/01/2021 09:09

I’m a nurse. About a quarter of the over 80s I know have been done, the vast majority of them haven’t. Only one over 90 year old I know has had it. Locally, most of the care homes haven’t been done although some of us staff have, with a fight to get it. Our home will be done in the next few weeks I think.

frustrationcentral · 08/01/2021 09:10

No, although they've got a lot that they're worried about at the moment so we're concerned they may have decided the vaccine isn't a priority at the moment - that would be the way they think.

As far as we were aware they should have been called quite quickly as it's being done alphabetically?

DFIL is in hospital at the moment, I was hoping he'd get jabbed there but I'm not sure if that's how it works

MutantNinjaCovid · 08/01/2021 09:11

My ecv father hasn’t. Currently having chemo

It all seems to be fur coat and no trousers. Sons of his neighbours and friends have.

MutantNinjaCovid · 08/01/2021 09:11

Certainly not alphabetical here

clairethewitch70 · 08/01/2021 09:13

Multiple family members 80-90. Wales. None heard anything so far.
