Sent home at 5
Rang in today and said a paramedic tested her and said shes fine possibly a chrat infection so is back in fir her night shift. Manager says this if fine - has seenno test results but its fine and that because they sent her home not self isolation it fine.
Im on shift with her and worried we work in a tin box with no ventilation

This cant be right, i cant refuse to work with her apparently
Do ambulance crew test people?

Not in my trust they don't.

LacyEdge · 07/01/2021 12:29

Since when do paramedics use rapid testing on callout patients? This sounds like BS to me.Take care of yourself OP.

Angeliana · 07/01/2021 12:29

No, they don’t.

Wankerchief · 07/01/2021 12:29

Im in berks, im Fuming, one person in my house is fresh out of hospital and very vulnerable

Imiss2019 · 07/01/2021 12:31

Sounds like BS to me. I highly doubt paramedics are testing people.

Covine · 07/01/2021 12:31

Sounds like bullshit. I wouldn't want to work with her. Even if she has genuinely had a negative test isn't the advice that you isolate anyway if you have symptoms?

KatherineJaneway · 07/01/2021 12:32

Would she get paid if she self isolated?

Imiss2019 · 07/01/2021 12:32

If she was ill enough to call a paramedic then she certainly isn’t well enough to be in work

Mousehole10 · 07/01/2021 12:32

That’s awful, she should be isolating and getting a proper test. Even if they did test her (most likely they didn’t), it would probably one of the less accurate lateral flow tests. I’d call in sick yourself to avoid.

Wankerchief · 07/01/2021 12:33

Is there anything i can do?
Im fucked if i don't go in, its been made clear the matters closed and if i don't go in ill get a written warning

winesolveseverything · 07/01/2021 12:33

Does she know one personally?

Could they have used their own personal issue rapid test on her? Not that they are very reliable- she would still need an official test doing.

Wankerchief · 07/01/2021 12:33

She would get ssp

Sounds like your employer is not great in terms of general attitude. How would they respond if you were to ring in sick yourself? I mean, would you be in danger of losing your job? If you're due on for night shift you've got a few hours to gradually feel worse and worse with your heavy chest cold and reluctantly decide that you're too poorly to work.

PuzzledObserver · 07/01/2021 12:38

She should get a proper test and self-isolate until the result. I'm sorry your manager is a wanker. Do you belong to a union? Mine provides a legal advice line.

BeepBoopBop · 07/01/2021 12:38

I thought call in sick too. Bloody horrific. Can you ring a local Public Health Officer at the council and ask them if they carry out any kind of visit?

Covine · 07/01/2021 12:39

Ah crap just seen your update. Sorry OP that sucks.

You could try getting in touch with these guys but obviously you need to keep your job:

No union, work in food retail and with an employer who is famous for poor working conditions

OP posts:
MargeryMcLatchie · 07/01/2021 12:41

I think that's rubbish. Manager needs to see the results, if indeed the test was taken, which I doubt.

HavelockVetinari · 07/01/2021 12:51

Yeah she's lying, paramedics DO NOT test people, purely because otherwise they would be inundated with people having made-up emergencies just so they could get an instant test.

The way to prove this is ringing Berkshire PCT and asking them outright if paramedics have the facilities to do instant tests on people (they will say no).

She's a disgrace, putting other people's actual lives at risk for her own financial gain.

lockdownbreakdown · 07/01/2021 12:55

Say you have symptoms and are self isolating. Let it take a while for the test results to come back.....

FairyFairy · 07/01/2021 12:55

Rapid tests aren't meant to be used by symptomatic people either way.

DumplingsAndStew · 07/01/2021 13:05

@Covine

Sounds like bullshit. I wouldn't want to work with her. Even if she has genuinely had a negative test isn't the advice that you isolate anyway if you have symptoms?
No, if you get tested because you have symptoms, your isolation ends on the result of a negative test. If you are isolating as a contact and get a negative test, you still have to isolate until your time is up.
Porcupineintherough · 07/01/2021 13:13

Health and safety exec. In the meantime I'd either out my concerns in writing and not go in, or phone in and tell them you've started symptoms and need to test.

Thedarknightsaredrawingin · 07/01/2021 13:16

Tell your manager you need this in writing.

Wankerchief · 07/01/2021 14:07

I rang and said i was uncomfortable and could i have a copy of the company covid policy and he hung up
He text me to say we could discuss it later as a team in the work place, i messaged back that i dont think we should all becoming in to mix and he messaged back that the person will be taking a few day holiday...nothing to do with the coughing, just found some days that had to be taken. I also have a meeting with him and the supervisor apparently straight after so yeah. Fucked 🤷🏻‍♀️😷

Hmm
