Rang in today and said a paramedic tested her and said shes fine possibly a chrat infection so is back in fir her night shift. Manager says this if fine - has seenno test results but its fine and that because they sent her home not self isolation it fine.
Im on shift with her and worried we work in a tin box with no ventilation

This cant be right, i cant refuse to work with her apparently

I'm furious on your behalf OP, this is so not ok. And if you go back in, you could potentially withe be spreading the virus if positive or contracting it from other colleagues as I assume being in the same workplace there's a chance it's spread further than the tests so far have shown.
Your employer is acting illegally and immorally. If they're claiming things about you that aren't true and using that to 'performance manage' you, is there some way you can refute that? Shouldn't they provide some sort of evidence? Definitely speak to a union and anyone else you can. What are your colleagues like, are you in touch with them? I can't imagine any of them are happy about this sort of treatment.
Flowers and fingers crossed for a negative test for you.

buenavistabelle · 11/01/2021 19:10

@TheDrsDocMartens

Maybe you develop a cough then?
Definitely this
Aspiringmatriarch · 11/01/2021 19:14

Also, how stupid are they? One person self-isolating has now turned into a full scale outbreak by the sound of it. It's not even in their best interests to behave like this. What a bunch of shits, honestly. I'm wondering what company you work for but maybe it's wisest you don't say? Not sure what your position would be if making it public?

ssd · 11/01/2021 19:15

I'm so sorry op.
My employer is being utterly shitty over covid too, whilst preaching to the whole country how well they treat workers.

Ridcully82 · 11/01/2021 19:16

Op,I'm sorry,but I wouldn't be surprised if you started a cough by Wednesday,given your lad's circumstances. Take care,and hope things go well,🤞

buenavistabelle · 11/01/2021 19:16

I think I would also be contacting my GP to ask what I should do in this situation regarding my vulnerable child and the fact that my employers were not protecting me.

Itisasecret · 11/01/2021 19:17

Honestly? I would contact head office and say you are contacting PHE and are taking legal advice. A no win no fee solicitor would take this case on. You are being set up for unfair dismissal, especially if you leave because you cannot keep your son safe/are fired.

You'll get a response and unless they fancy a mega payout, HR will sort this.

Lifeispassingby · 11/01/2021 19:17

How much do you NEED this job? Would you qualify for additional benefits if you weren’t working? Could you find another job? You need a way out and fast, you deserve better then this really. Once you’re secure then you need to report this company as their behaviour is appalling. Can you tell them test and trace have phoned you and isolate? I really feel for you OP, this is truly awful treatment

IHateThisVirus · 11/01/2021 19:21

Goodness...no words.wow. take care of yourself OP. Flowers

ChristmasCovid · 11/01/2021 19:27

Find your local PHE teams contact details and inform them regarding all of this - you can do it anonymously. This is absolutely disgusting and they will investigate.
Are you quite a big team?

Scbchl · 11/01/2021 19:28

Contact your local environmental health office tomorrow and inform them of all of this. It's not surprising supermarkets keep having clusters when this is the way some behave. Two supermarket staff died last week in Glasgow after being part of a cluster its peoples lives they are playing with.

itsgettingweird · 11/01/2021 19:30

Sorry your work is shit.

But also remember if you develop a cough or temp you can't go in weds Wink

itsgettingweird · 11/01/2021 19:31

This is where government should have had a specialist whistle blowing line during this.

Companies should be reported for serious breaches because they will be adding to this affecting the nation for longer.

ivfbeenbusy · 11/01/2021 19:34

To be honest there should be a criminal offence bought in for people like your colleague who clearly "lied" about the paramedic testing her abs therefore knowingly put people at risk

Haffdonga · 11/01/2021 19:35

That's wrong!

Could you link to the page that your manager sent?

Pastanred · 11/01/2021 19:36

there are whistle blowing links on the gov website specifically for this

Thatusernamewastaken · 11/01/2021 19:37

As others have said, contact PHE. Enough people seem to have got unwell that it wouldn’t be obvious it was you. Name your manager in the complaint as well as they are a disgrace. People should lose their jobs for this as they have caused an outbreak, and it shouldn’t be you!

Haffdonga · 11/01/2021 19:39

Actually found the info myself. It's true it says if you haven't been contacted you don't need to isolate. But it doesn't say you shouldn't !

Ch3rish · 11/01/2021 19:47

It's crazy how different employers are dealing with this, my Dsis had to work at home while her child isolated because the school bubble was sent home, child had no symptoms, didn't go on to develop any but the employer takes the health of its employees so seriously she wasn't allowed to go in.

BeakyWinder · 11/01/2021 19:52

In your situation I would tell work I had a temperature and book a test (because they will want to see the result) book a home one to buy yourself extra time, they've played really dirty here so don't feel bad.

Wankerchief · 11/01/2021 20:48

Wow it's like your employer deliberately wants to spread it around. I agree with the others, say you have a cough and call ACAS. I hope you and your son are ok.

WingingItSince1973 · 11/01/2021 21:25

My mum is a manager in a local High school. If one of her employees have to have a covid test they self isolate. Its been a bit of a pain as I think some of them are taking the mickey but she has no choice and doesn't demand them to come to work. Not all bosses are like yours. Am so sorry. Xxx

Inkythemouse · 11/01/2021 21:29

Do you not have to stay at home until you get your test results back? I thought that you did.

Pythonesque · 11/01/2021 21:40

That gov.uk advice reads to me as if the employer is expected to take responsibility for determining who the contacts of a positive case would be, and telling them to isolate.
