Good result OP

MRex · 12/01/2021 18:43

You definitely should ask if related disciplinary action will be looked at and share all the names you're aware of when asked. Be clear you call it "related" and let her try to argue back that it wasn't related.

KarmaNoMore · 12/01/2021 18:44

I would mention the meeting when you call with the results, looking at how nasty your bosses are, I wouldn’t be surprised if they try to make you and the others that complained pay for daring to talk the issue with the head office.

You've handled the whole situation brilliantly, OP, but I would advise speaking to your union about the warning meeting. They cannot sack you for making a protected disclosure, which includes health & safety concerns. They are unlikely to try to sack you now, for the minor infringements you mention, but the meeting could be the start of victimising you for whistle-blowing. It would be a good idea to protect yourself against future blowback by putting it on the record that you think the warning meeting was set up in response to your protected disclosure.
Lalalalasee · 12/01/2021 19:24

I am so horrified to read the way you have been treated by your management team.

Turns out you were right, she was lying previously and if she really did say this to management that she should be sacked for unsafe behaviour.

I think you need to make a formal complaint to head office and that you should mention that you are doing this to the other two people who were also pulled in to the office so that they can take your lead if need be. I would not encourage them to do so, just tell them that is what you are doing so that they can decide if they want to as well.

Hoping for a negative for you OP

Unsure33 · 12/01/2021 19:37

I was going to say anonymous call to your local health and safety executive.

Plus as others have said write notes about everything that has happened .

Plus join a union ASAP.

Your employer owes you a duty of care and you all should have had copies of risk assessments for covid .

This is what annoys me about the government getting all the blame when employers are acting like this .

I know someone who went into an office last week . Just to tidy up and work and at the end of the day bring his laptop to work at home . One person in the office felt ill and decided to go in anyway 🤷‍♀️ and now all of them have to isolate according to track and trace . He is CV as well .

Honestly what are people 🤨

KatherineJaneway · 12/01/2021 19:50

Well done OP

I’m so pleased OP, please keep us updated as we are all rooting for you to resolve this with a good outcome x

So good to hear there is someone taking it seriously! Absolutely tell her you and 2 others were threatened with a warning meeting to keep your mouth shut. They know that if this was picked up by a journalist such bad PR for the company.

I think Wales are telling people to not wait for track and trace, a friend who lives in Wales shared something that Wales are putting out, I’ll see if I can find it....

SunKeepsShining · 13/01/2021 12:37

I can’t find the original, but basically it said that the Welsh government said due to high number of cases, of you know you have been in contact with someone positive, either they told you or work did etc. Please don’t wait until track and trace contact you as it could take a few days. To tell your employer and start isolating as soon as you know. They assumed people would tell their friends if they knew they had been in on tact and then tested positive themselves.

Just seen this, well done getting the higher up management involved and YY tell them about the warning, and lies re food and closing procedures.

Hope your next test is negative and all the others with COVID recover quickly.

Wankerchief · 13/01/2021 12:53

A big relief. Im on day 6 so hopefully ive dodged it

I really hope you manage to flag up that warning meeting, with an email trail if possible. Your management may lie low for a few weeks, but be planning on something down the line. Make sure that sympathetic higher up woman is in the picture.

MRex · 13/01/2021 13:43

That's great. Let us know what she says about the related disciplinary meeting.

polout · 13/01/2021 20:09

Hurrah! So pleased for you, had to come on here and check. Now get back on to head office and make a complaint about that manager and invite head office to your disciplinary!

goatsgalore · 02/02/2021 05:34

How did this pan out OP?

Porridgeoat · 02/02/2021 05:55

Please tell them about the meetings three of you had when highlighting concerns. That is an incredibly poor way to manage people and I suspect this is something they might do regularly

hillarypcof · 02/02/2021 06:07

OP - please report this to the ambulance service to investigate. They may then be able to pass their findings onto the local authority who can then decide to take action with the employer. As PPs have said, it is unlikely that paramedics test patients (in fact, working in the same ambulance service that you are talking about, I KNOW they don't!!!)

I am SICK of people and work places BSing and putting others at risk 😡 The lady and the workplace should be ashamed. Even if it wasn't COVID, why does anybody want her in work with symptoms of anything? I am also sick of this "trooper" culture, soldiering on into work with symptoms. Nobody wants your sodding cold, p!$$ off back home until you get better!!! Grrrr

MegtheShark · 02/02/2021 06:29

Kp, not the point of the thread I know but do you have a partner who is over the earnings threshold for benefits?

You should be able to claim PIP for your son. Sometimes you have to fight for it but if he is entitled you will get it eventually (had to go to a tribunal for my daughters, took a year but instead of the lower amount for three years she got the higher rates for mobility and care indefinitely. PIP isn’t means tested, so either way you could get this.

You could also then claim carers alllowance.

If you are on your own you could get income support if you had to give up your job to safely care for your son. You wouldn’t have to ‘sign on’ if you get carers allowance. It does get deducted from the income support but also means they can’t force you to job interviews, you’d just get a call every three years to see if your situation had changed.

DippyDetetcive · 02/02/2021 06:30

@Wankerchief Can you name and shame?

CeeJay81 · 02/02/2021 06:56

Just read this whole thread which makes me bloody angry. Having to deal with all that is not on. Are you not a member of Usdaw? You need to all get together and get your employer to be part of the Union. I work in food retail too and as well as been a union member, our employer is a good one. There is no way that shit would be allowed to go on.

Can you try and apply to other supermarkets etc in the area? It sounds like you've got a lot to deal with and the last thing you need is an employer like that.

Brefugee · 02/02/2021 07:11

No union, work in food retail and with an employer who is famous for poor working conditions

That sounds awful. Get it in writing and see if thee is any help from anyone in your workplace who is in a union.

i wonder why you have poor working conditions?
Join. A. Union.

KeepWashingThoseHands · 02/02/2021 07:19

My mouth on the floor reading this. Tricky situation for you OP but sounds like things have improved (a little).

Some people really are promoted beyond their own competency level aren’t they. Irrespective of duty of care to people let’s risk taking the whole shift out because they failed to act on one case. That’s the definition of fucking stoopid.
