Rang in today and said a paramedic tested her and said shes fine possibly a chrat infection so is back in fir her night shift. Manager says this if fine - has seenno test results but its fine and that because they sent her home not self isolation it fine.
Im on shift with her and worried we work in a tin box with no ventilation

This cant be right, i cant refuse to work with her apparently

You have your answer I think, in your own posts.

  1. ssp - not many can survive on three days no pay and less than a hundred pounds for the week.
  2. don’t be so sure she lying - your manager has proved themselves more than capable of doing that. It’s quite likely she was subjected to the same pressure and decided holiday was the best way to protect herself and her colleagues, and get laid a sensible wage.

Good luck with union/acas. But I would look for another job as plan b.

MilkchopsMcgee · 09/01/2021 21:35

Hi op, is this a pizza chain by any chance? My OH has just quit at one due to similar management style. What they are doing is wrong, you need to keep everything documented if you can and get a copy of all the texts. Go to Acas they give wonderful advice, could you also go to HR for the covid policy and also voice your concerns about the manager? I would not be happy with him trying to cover up for the woman like that and then giving 3 staff meeting about "work performance" the same 3 that voiced concerns over the safety of working with this woman.

At the end of the day your, and your family's safety comes first and if you don't feel safe then don't work, you would have a pretty strong case for unfair dismissal

MRex · 09/01/2021 22:49

You need to get advice from ACAS, they are bullying you.

Wankerchief · 11/01/2021 17:18

Original lady and another lady i worked with on Thursday were confirmed positive today.
I now must self isolate.
I did a postal test today and posted it off(doctor advised)
I still have to give care to my bed bound son and I'm terrified i will pass it on.
Even if i was positive i would have to care for him. Ive been wearing a mask round him since weds but i bathe him, change his stoma, all personal care ect so there has to be close contact😬
I have a yr5 son who is sleeping in my room because he usually shares with his brother but we split them up at the ICU doctors advice so that poor bugger is stuck with me.

I’m so sorry, maybe, just maybe you will test negative.

Porcupineintherough · 11/01/2021 17:24

Sorry but not surprised to read your update. Fingers crossed for you.

buenavistabelle · 11/01/2021 17:33

So original lady has tested positive even though a paramedic alllegedly tested her and it was negative?
I would definitely be calling a whistleblowing line and/or going to the press. I am so angry on your behalf. They sound like absolutely shitty employers.
I really hope that you don't contract this and pass it to your son.
Well done for standing your ground x

Wankerchief · 11/01/2021 17:43

Yes original lady rung in her result plus put it on facebook that she was now positive. Everyone is fuming, I'm the youngest by 18 years on the team at mid 30’s so theres alot of older staff she worked with.
The other lady who gas it is in her early 60s and had the ambulance out Friday night but remained at home so im hoping thats positive news

Ive been told to expect a call tomorrow to explain what to do next so we will see where that takes me.

Good luck OP, both with your work and your and your family's health.

BornIn78 · 11/01/2021 17:56

They sounds like terrible employers, I’d be raising hell over this. Fingers crossed you don’t have/develop covid.

I think in your situation, caring for your son, I’d be tempted to lie about having symptoms and go get a test.

Enko · 11/01/2021 17:57

Good luck OP

Wankerchief · 11/01/2021 18:03

Ive had a test but its postal.

Will just have to wait for the results, probably weds/Thursday

CottonSock · 11/01/2021 18:03

They are shit..sorry op you are in this position

BeakyWinder · 11/01/2021 18:10

Wow, the behaviour of your employer, and the employee if they lied/attended work with symptoms is disgraceful! Horrible position to put you in with your son. Glad you are now isolating and have a breather from the place whilst you consider your options, and fingers crossed you stay well.

Perihelion · 11/01/2021 18:18

Also consider escalating to head office, if there is one.

NotSorry · 11/01/2021 18:23

Disgraceful behaviour from your employer - OP I hope your DS is ok and that you don’t catch it

PusheenLove · 11/01/2021 18:29

Wow original lady has some brass neck!!

Wankerchief · 11/01/2021 18:42

So we've all been informed that per government guidelines we cant cant self isolate till im contacted by test and trace so im due in on weds.
The manager linked to the gov page where it does indeed say that.
Crazy

TheDrsDocMartens · 11/01/2021 18:47

Maybe you develop a cough then?

TheMarzipanDildo · 11/01/2021 18:50

This is absolutely shocking.

sunshinesupermum · 11/01/2021 18:50

Paramedics do not test for covid. If presenting with symptoms and oxygen level is low patient will be taken to hospital and tested/given treatment there.

So sorry OP Flowers

WingingItSince1973 · 11/01/2021 18:52

Wow am absolutely stunned your employer is still taking this stance even though his employees have tested positive. Am so sorry about your poorly ds. Do you have anyone else to help you. Your bosses are disgusting I hope they get caught out and heavily fined xxx

VeganSven · 11/01/2021 18:55

It actually says “you’ve been told you’ve been in contact with someone who tested positive” which you have, by your employer. It then says what to do if you’ve been contacted by test and trace. It’s really ambiguous but it doesn’t actually specify “been told by test and trace”. I would call your public health team for clarification.

To be honest if this is the case it’s no wonder it’s spreading so fast. It makes no sense not to have to isolate if you’ve been in close contact with someone who has definitely tested positive. Test and trace will only contact you if she has named you as a contact as far as I know.

WB205020 · 11/01/2021 19:08

Is would contact your local council OP. Perhaps public health England too. They need to be aware employers are acting this way. I imagine they will come down hard on them if they find out they are.

Viciouslybashed · 11/01/2021 19:09

Bloody hell. This is truly shocking stuff. Surely you can't be really expected in when you have done a test. Madness. Absolute madness. Is there a whistle-blower phone line for employers that treat their staff like this.
