To ask if you're not getting the vaccine...

Then why? Just curious as to why some people will not get it

@Givemeabreak88

I would rather take my chances personally, which I’m 99% unlikely to die from it so I’m ok with taking the chance; it’s ok that others think differently to you!
When those people are actively harming others who can't get the vaccine yet for whatever reason or can't get it at all, no, it's not okay to think differently. It's manslaughter.
QueenPawPaws · 08/01/2021 01:31

ECV and yes, as I emailed my consultant (haematology) and asked if I am ok to have it and if so any particular one
He replied saying "yes, and whichever they offer to jab you with first, stick your arm out" Grin
(He's been my consultant for 4 years so we have a.. relationship based on jokes/sarcasm)

squeekums · 08/01/2021 03:23

Can the people saying it’s been “rushed” or “not tested enough” please explain to me what further testing or approval process they’d like it to go through
Whats the long term data, 5, 10 years down track. What affect does it have on the body? If my DD has it now at 10, will it affect her fertility at 25 or 30?
If she reacts to some antibiotics, is it even safe for her?

Aus still wont have a vaccine till late Feb, Early march as its still going through the approvals and what not. But even that still wont have long term data

I wonder how many people saying they wouldn’t have it would change their minds if it was a requirement for overseas travel or to go to a restaurant/concert etc.
I shall get a medical exemption on mental health grounds and dr safety grounds. My reaction to even just the syringe in same room is to run and fight for my life.

amylou8 · 08/01/2021 04:23

I want some stats about the overall safety of the vaccine. I know my risk from covid as a healthy 40 year old is vanishing low (388 deaths of healthy under 60s since March - NHS figures). Until it can be shown the vaccine carries an even or less risk, or I can be convinced of another coherent reason to have it I'll give it a miss.

I really hope no doctor gives you an exemption for not wanting it. I am unclear what mental health reason allows you to get in a plane but not have an injection Hmm

People who GENUINELY can’t have it are the ones we are trying to protect too as part of a normal human society. Qantas is talking about no jab no fly and that’s fine with me

squeezeapplesmakejuice · 08/01/2021 04:58

In theory I have no problem with the vaccine but glad I am low risk and pregnant so won't be offered it for a long time maybe years
If it proves to be effective and safe in a few years I might get it. If it's mutating though will a ' one type fits all ' vaccine really help? Not sure on that one.

LokiOdinson · 08/01/2021 05:13

If people refuse it, fine. But they should have to continue isolation/lockdown and social distancing measures until the virus is completely eradicated.

Even if the vaccine causes issues (and there is plenty of research done on mRNA vaccines - it doesn't even have the virus in it, dead or alive) your daughter's potential fertility is not more important than somebody else's life. Not everybody wants children, anyway.

my phobia requires me needing sedation or restraint, like tied to bed, arms and legs no dr is willing to do that and i cant control my reactions to even the sight of a syringe At 10 i broke a drs nose, while being restrained It was deemed to dangerous to even TRY take my blood in pregnancy due to the severity of my reaction Hence, a medical exemption on mental health and dr safety grounds

Thats for international Qantas, not domestic, which is what i use being in aus

bluetongue · 08/01/2021 05:29

Can’t wait to get it even though I’m low risk. It’s a fucking miracle that there are not one but at least 3 vaccines ready to go.

I want the vaccine not because I’m scared of getting Covid but because I have vulnerable family, friends and colleagues. And also because it’s the only way life will return to anything approaching normal. Expecting everyone else to get the vaccine to achieve this is pretty selfish unless you have a legitimate reason to opt out.

Imagine how screwed the UK would be right now if there was no vaccine coming any time soon?

bluetongue · 08/01/2021 05:40

Forgot to add that I’ll likely need it to do any travel abroad which I plan on resuming as soon as I can.

I've met patients like this (usually female). You sound very proud of your phobia. What have you tried to overcome it. You may well be young and healthy but very few people can avoid needles for thier whole lives.

rosie1959 · 08/01/2021 06:23

I feel for those with phobias perhaps it would be a good idea to get help with this

hopefulhalf · 08/01/2021 06:38

And not having blood tests in pregnancy is dangerous (as your midwives tried to tell you). Not so much for you as your unborn baby. Google "rheusus heamolytic disease of the newborn" I've treated it, it's horrible on one occasion we couldn't save the infant. Sad

Carriemac · 08/01/2021 07:28

My DN had a severe needle phobia . She developed type one diabetes and got over the phobia v quickly , otherwise she'd have beer v poorly or dead .

Ginfordinner · 08/01/2021 08:12

I'm disappointed at the number of posters who seem unable to see the bigger picture. It isn't just about the healthy refusers accepting risk, but about transmitting the virus to other people. You would think that they don't want to do their bit to enable society to get back to any kind of normality.

Ginfordinner · 08/01/2021 08:13

sqeakums what steps have you taken to deal with your needle phobia?

trulydelicious · 08/01/2021 08:22

@Merryhobnobs

Those saying you won't have it because you are trying to concieve is bizarre

Why do people keep inciting those with perfectly valid reasons (e.g. pregnancy/allergies) to throw all caution to the wind just because the guidance has been 'updated'?

The guidance is likely to be updated many times in the next couple of years for all things Covid (including vaccines), so people are right to exercise a bit of prudence at the moment

user7778 · 08/01/2021 08:32

@FutureDuchessofHastings

Some of the comments on here are hilarious! The posters must feel so intelligent and that they're giving a really sound argument. Most of it is straight from the Daily Mail or Express type scaremongering. One is going to wait to guage how safe the vaccine is. Ignoring all the evidence and advice from scientists with years of experience. The 'science writer' with a partner who is a researcher 'in the medical field' is deliberately vague about everything. Claims to know that simple vitamins, dandelions and eye of newt prevent/cure covid. If only everyone else knew, huh. 'Its not about covid...it doesn't sit right', presumably meant to sound intelligent? It really doesn't. If you don't want to have it, don't. But please don't give ridiculous reasons. It's all because you are scared of the vaccine, that's what it boils down to. Just don't expect to be part of society when things begin to return to normal because everyone else has done their bit.
Don't forget the 'I don't want my DNA altered' nonsense 🤦‍♀️
BooFuckingHoo2 · 08/01/2021 08:44

A quick google will point you to several articles explaining how/why the vaccine does not cause fertility issues.

Why are people so quick to believe conspiracies their mates post on Facebook?

trulydelicious · 08/01/2021 08:57

@Indoctro

Thanks for the informative post

trulydelicious · 08/01/2021 09:01

@Nanny0gg

Look at Rob Swanda on YouTube. Excellent explanation as to how the vaccine works

I think by now most people understand how these 'vaccines work' no?

trulydelicious · 08/01/2021 09:10

@TheSeaMonkeyHasMyMoney

Our own antibodies don't mark our own cells for destruction, only the infection cells

I understand your post to be correct - this is how it works for someone who's healthy. But some are concerned about autoimmune disease

Apparently not, as some think it alters your DNA...

trulydelicious · 08/01/2021 09:48

@LokiOdinson

It's also manslaughter if you coerce someone into having these vaccines and they die of anaphylactic shock, isn't it? - it can happen even if you have no previous history of allergies - see what happened in Alaska

trulydelicious · 08/01/2021 09:49

You just cannot force someone to have medical treatment for the benefit of somebody else
