To ask if you're not getting the vaccine...

Then why? Just curious as to why some people will not get it

TheDayAfter · 06/01/2021 22:48

I've had covid and shall not be having the vaccine.
PP above saying "no evidence of it causing harm" to unborn baby, is because they haven't tested it on pregnant women and their babies, and even if they had they wouldn't yet have given birth so wouldn't be able to tell if there were any severe effects on the baby. Why on earth would a pregnant woman risk it? The Pfizer vax basically tells your cells to make the spike protein and then your body attacks those cell in an immune response, but how can they know (yet) whether the attack is limited to those cells and not other healthy cells (such as in the case of chemotherapy etc) or developing cells of the fetus? Genuinely interested to know the science behind that if anyone can shed light on it.

Osirus · 06/01/2021 22:49

@Userid227

I’ve already had Covid
And you can’t get it twice right Hmm

My friend tested positive twice. Six months apart.

Seventytwo · 06/01/2021 22:57

Long Covid sufferer here - I’m a previously fit, sporty and otherwise healthy 30s woman but over the past few months I’ve lost whole weeks because I’ve barely been able to get off the sofa for more than a couple of minutes at a time. Back in the spring I was someone who thought it was all a big fuss over nothing.

I’d crawl over broken glass to get the damned vaccine.

TheDayAfter · 06/01/2021 22:58

@Osirus the vaccine doesn't stop transmission so even after having the vaccine your friend could test positive five times.

TheDayAfter · 06/01/2021 22:59

@Seventytwo I also have some lasting symptoms. Lethargy and taste/smell totally changed.

Superfoodie123 · 06/01/2021 23:01

I dont like my dna being played with. Someone said 'there's no evidence it affects pregnant women' Well that's just it, there really isn't that much evidence because it has been tested for at least one tenth of the time that a normal vaccine would have, plus its a new type of vaccine inserting man made dna into your body. The main thing really though is that they're protected from lawsuits if someone does get severe side effects, something im not seeing at all in the media when 'anti vaxxers' are being mocked for their stupidity

MrsSugar · 06/01/2021 23:06

We are currently trying to conceive.

I am in two minds I don’t know what to do but I don’t think I will take it. If I wasn’t trying to conceive I’d take it in a heartbeat

ethelredonagoodday · 06/01/2021 23:08

I know a few people my age and younger (I'm early 40s) who have been very poorly, and really knocked for six with it with ongoing after effects. I also know someone who is now in to their second week in intensive care, on a ventilator and now being proned as an attempt to save her life. She's younger than me, very fit and well, other than mild asthma.

Several of my friends are medical consultants and they are having the vaccine.

I'll be having the vaccine if it's offered to me.

Godimabitch · 06/01/2021 23:09

I'll wait and see what happens. It's a small sample size over a short period, there is every chance that side effects will become apparent that they didn't previously know about, it's normal, scientists cant know everything, they have always made mistakes throughout history, its perfectly normal. I'm not scaremongering, just being realistic.

I just want to wait and see how it goes and wait until they're not trying to get it out as fast as possible, pressure causes mistakes, risk taking and corner cutting.

I'm young, healthy, low risk and low on the list of priorities if I was high risk then that would affect my decision. I've encouraged elderly relatives to get it because the risk of covid far outweighs any side effects of the vaccine especially when they have fewer years left.

It's not my job to inject something into my body to protect others. If we're going to start forcing medical procedures then how about forced sterilisation for parents of two or more children to prevent further overpopulation which is wrecking our planet.

I will have it (I've already had covid though), a few of my colleagues want to wait as they want longer term data ideally (nhs workers!). The doctors seem to want it so I think ill follow the medics on this one

Historydweeb · 06/01/2021 23:14

History of adverse reactions due to an over active immune system. Otherwise if be first in line

SheeshazAZ09 · 06/01/2021 23:15

Actually some media have reported side effects of the vaccine—a few cases of Bell’s palsy and some serious allergic reactions. There was also a case of MS I believe during one of the trials which the company said was not related to the vaccine. We will see in time.

Glitterblue · 06/01/2021 23:21

MIL is not having it because they will micro chip her Hmm

Pinetreesfall · 06/01/2021 23:29

No won't be having the vaccine. Low risk group. Didn't have the flu vaccine either despite getting an 'invite'.
As I said to my colleague - If you want it, fine but it's my choice not to have it. Don't ask me why not continually!

LunaMuffinTop · 06/01/2021 23:32

I want it but can’t have it because we are trying for a baby so I will continue to shield have the vaccine once we’ve had a baby.

SoLongFurlough · 06/01/2021 23:34

Neither of us is scared of COVID—I’ve had it and homeopathic treatment got rid of it quickly and without complications.

Which homeopathic treatments get rid of COVID?

SheeshazAZ09 · 06/01/2021 23:43

Re homeopathy, there are many different remedies and the one that is right for you is chosen by the homeopath based on your particular symptoms and how you feel. I do not recommend self prescribing and buying over the counter remedies, you need to consult a professional homeopath who’s registered with one of the professional bodies. This disease is not one to play “guess the remedy” with, which you could end up doing if you try to self prescribe.

SheeshazAZ09 · 06/01/2021 23:45

I should add that homeopaths are doing virtual appointments so no in person visit needed.

We. Don't. Know. This. Yet.

For the love of god....

QueenOfTheDoubleWide · 06/01/2021 23:49

Just as a point to those saying it has not been tested on pregnant women. Are you aware that no drugs or vaccines are? What pregnant woman would ever volunteer for a medical trial? The closest you get to "safe" for any drug in pregnancy is "no evidence of adverse effects" which is collected from those who get pregnant accidentally while taking or for whom withdrawing the drug would be even higher risk over many years of use.

All the medics and staff I work with other than one (who is probably the least intelligent and least qualified quite honestly) are having the vaccine. Most of us have had our first one

Felifox · 06/01/2021 23:50

Yes I will have it.

GwendolineMarysLaces · 06/01/2021 23:52

@SheeshazAZ09

I won’t be having it (history of allergies) and partner who is a research scientist in the medical field won’t either as he says it’s experimental and not proven safe.

Neither of us is scared of COVID—I’ve had it and homeopathic treatment got rid of it quickly and without complications.

We are also taking supplements proven to be beneficial in preventing and managing COVID, namely vitamins d and c and zinc. Why the govt has ignored the evidence that these help keep ppl healthy is beyond me but maybe they are only interested in “solutions” that make profits for the pharma industry. Hope I am wrong there.

If your 'research scientist' partner believes n homeopathy then I'd be seriously questioning their ability to weigh up any sort of scientific evidence/data. This HAS to be a joke.
Trumplosttheelection · 06/01/2021 23:53

I work in the nhs. I haven't met anybody who is not getting it. Probably because we don't fancy resus, cpap, ventilation, proning, strokes and multi organ failure.
