Then why? Just curious as to why some people will not get it

OP posts:
teenagetantrums · 06/01/2021 21:43

I have had first one. Excuses from other people at work who said no vary from its not been tested enough, it will make you infertile, l don't believe in coronvirus, I read on Facebook it will turn you into a zombie 🤣.
Funnily enough in last week many of the people who said no are now panicking about new variant and cross they now have to wait and l have had it.

hotcrosswhat · 06/01/2021 21:52

I'm pregnant so I can't/won't have it for now.

yahyahs22 · 06/01/2021 21:59

Turn you into a zombie?! Thats a new one. Everything on Facebook is of course real news though...

Pigtailsandall · 06/01/2021 22:03

@hotcrosswhat

I'm pregnant so I can't/won't have it for now.
You can have it while pregnant
PinkiOcelot · 06/01/2021 22:06

I’m not getting it. Yet. I’ll hang on. There’s plenty of people far more entitled than I am.

AHippoNamedBooBooButt · 06/01/2021 22:09

I can’t wait to get it but someone said they couldn’t because they are allergic to penicillin which I also am so now worried I can’t have it. I’m allergic to other medications/tablets as well.
Though I’m not on the currently priority lists so it doesn’t matter for the moment

Nightmanagerfan · 06/01/2021 22:10

You can have it if allergic to penicillin, guidance was updated this week.

JaceLancs · 06/01/2021 22:11

Multiple allergies and auto immune conditions mean I probably won’t be eligible or risking it

DeeCeeCherry · 06/01/2021 22:12

I want to wait until (hopefully) I can gauge that it's safe. If it was a cure-all the rich/elite would have their hands on it 1st, we would not be a priority. I feel as if we're guinea pigs.

I am not a conspiracy theorist, just came to my own conclusions. My Mum told me she was wary of Thalidomide in the early 1960s (when I was born) even when it was being touted as safe and people who thought it wasn't were scaremongers.

To have a particular vaccination or not is a private decision I don't see why people are being asked about it or as I've seen elsewhere on MN, harangued about it.

SnackSizeRaisin · 06/01/2021 22:14

You can have it while pregnant

Only if you have a health condition putting you at very high risk of covid complications. Even then it's on an individual basis after discussion with a doctor. Currently it is not advised for pregnant women as it is untested in this group

Biker47 · 06/01/2021 22:15

No, I don't get vaccines for other things with that high a survival rate for my age group unnecessarily; so I won't get one for this. Less medication I actually need in my body, the better, especially after a reaction with medication as a child which gave me something with a significantly higher mortality rate than covid.

m0therofdragons · 06/01/2021 22:16

Every single consultant doctor in my hospital has either had it or wants it. All those medical brains and experience totally aligned is enough for me.

Atrixie · 06/01/2021 22:17

@DeeCeeCherry thalidomide was not a vaccine and it was 50 years ago medical advances are unrecognisable You cannot compare one with another. I also think your other points are so ridiculous it’s not worth comment

m0therofdragons · 06/01/2021 22:17

@Biker47 what about long covid and living with that as a long term health condition?

INeedADayOff · 06/01/2021 22:18

I can’t have it due to a previous vaccine reaction, and anaphylactic reactions to several antibiotics and other medications 🤷‍♀️

Don’t care if they have updated the guidance - I’m not risking it - am happily waiting for the Oxford vaccine but again I need to talk to someone to see if I am allowed it 🤷‍♀️

DaenarysStormborn · 06/01/2021 22:19

Trying to conceive. Weighing it up as I'm ECV but it's not recommended due to it being untested in pregnancy. And I won't wait longer to TTC as due to other bits of my medical history we've already held on for an extra six months.

Userid227 · 06/01/2021 22:19

I’ve already had Covid

Allergic reactions and bad reactions to previous vaccines and other medicines.
Had covid.

diamondsr4u · 06/01/2021 22:23

I won't be getting it.

ragged · 06/01/2021 22:23

It hasn't been offered...

I intend to decline this year and before I'm much older because

 • I am not afraid of the illness. I don't seek out flu jabs each year, either, or generally make huge efforts to avoid catching germs.

 • I am fed up with being told what to do for almost 1 year. I have a tiny bit of autonomy to reclaim.

SalemsPot22 · 06/01/2021 22:25

We’re trying to conceive so I won’t be having it.

Biker47 · 06/01/2021 22:27
@Biker47 what about long covid and living with that as a long term health condition?
I'll take my chances. I've been working 7 days a week for the past nine months without incident.

YorkshireGirl35 · 06/01/2021 22:33

35 pregnant and planning to breast feed, pretty sure I will be bottom of the list

Generallybewildered · 06/01/2021 22:34

I will be having it. I will also be giving it.

Because the vaccine hasn’t been tested on pregnant women they recommend that you don’t have it unless you have an undying condition that makes you high risk. However there is no evidence that it could harm the baby and if a woman finds out they are pregnant after having it they shouldn’t worry.

The Pfizer vaccine has a particular constituent that some people are allergic to. Therefore they recommend that you do not have it if you have anaphylaxis to a range of chemicals and wait for the Oxford vaccine which does not have this constituent. This does not apply for mild allergic reactions (eg itchy skin) or general food allergies.
