It’s back under a new name “clap for heroes.”

OP posts:
Itsonlymakebelieve · 06/01/2021 14:17

No, I didn’t before and won’t this time either.
No good reason for it, wanky photo opportunity for politicians and feel good pictures in the press to paper over the cracks of the current shitshow. What’s the point?

LaMarschallin · 06/01/2021 14:18

Sorry! That was in reply to Keeping2ChevronsApart who said

We did it last time as DP felt pressured by all the neighbours going out. No way will I be doing it

ClaireP20 · 06/01/2021 14:19

@Honkingallthewaytothebank

I'd happily take part if it was rebranded Boo For Boris though. I have plenty of boos for that particular cause.
Oh God the lefties are out again, how about you organise a 'Cheer for Corbyn' day..see how well that catches on!
peasoup8 · 06/01/2021 14:19

I have nothing but admiration and sympathy for the staff of the NHS btw.

Why? I don’t see how you can make a blanket statement like that. Some of them are undoubtedly great, but others are terrible and don’t give a damn about their patients. Just look at the MN traumatic birth threads on here to see how some women are treated at the hands of NHS staff!

skippy67 · 06/01/2021 14:19

Nope.

Purplethrow · 06/01/2021 14:20

No I won’t be clapping, it just seems so patronising.

vickyp0llard · 06/01/2021 14:20

Jesus christ no, what a load of bollocks

Orf1abc · 06/01/2021 14:20

@ClaireP20 There are plenty of right wingers that think Johnson is useless too. The disdain for his ineptitude spreads beyond party lines.

HeyMister · 06/01/2021 14:21

Na uh.

unmarkedbythat · 06/01/2021 14:23

Oh bless your little cotton socks, are you under the impression that only people who support the ex leader of the Labour party would boo Boris?

Doingitaloneandproud · 06/01/2021 14:23

No I won't be

warmandtoasty2day · 06/01/2021 14:23

tuck right off with the clapping rubbish that achieves NOTHING. all we need to do to help the n.h.s is follow the advice,

littlepattilou · 06/01/2021 14:23

No.

warmandtoasty2day · 06/01/2021 14:24

*FUCK Blush

Hotcuppatea · 06/01/2021 14:24

Nope. Never.

LobotheBotanist · 06/01/2021 14:25

No

Did it last time as my neighbours are paramedics and they said it meant a lot to them

The mood isn’t right

Palavah · 06/01/2021 14:26

Judging by the replies to the tweet you linked, OP, noone else is going to be clapping.

MissBaskinIfYoureNasty · 06/01/2021 14:26

Absolutely not.

F1rstt1imer · 06/01/2021 14:29

God no! All it did was upset my toddler and wake her up if she was asleep!!! At least it’s too cold to have windows open so the sound will be more muffled this time!

pictish · 06/01/2021 14:29

Yes I did mean in general blanket terms. I am aware that individual circumstances always apply. As I said, I thought it was a nice gesture when I first cottoned on to it after the first clap. I wasn’t looking to dissect it.
Calmandmeasured1 · 06/01/2021 14:30

No. My ndn who is a nurse will be at work so won't see it. No other 'heroes' in the road. Anyway, the weather is blinking freezing so I'd rather be in the warm. 😂

Knucklehead101 · 06/01/2021 14:31

Like fuck I will

Stellaris22 · 06/01/2021 14:33

A thousand times no, and I'm cringing that it's coming back.

This is AFTER the government voted against a pay rise for nurses and continue to do nothing to help NHS staff.

Frankly I'm disgusted. Clapping does nothing to help working conditions and is a meaningless gesture to make people feel better about themselves.

passporttohell · 06/01/2021 14:34

@Lovely1a2b3c

No, because NHS workers are people whose lives matter and whose working conditions should be safe, not heroes who should be risking their lives for other people.
That is nice to read (NHS relatives who have caught Covid-19 at least once since March, probably twice). Among all the clamour about certain 'safe' places not being safe, it is worth remembering how many NHS staff have caught and died from Covid-19.
RaspberryCoulis · 06/01/2021 14:35

Most definitely not.
