It’s back under a new name “clap for heroes.”

OP posts:
Proudboomer · 06/01/2021 14:35

NO

I will do my bit by obeying current rules and doing my best not to get infected so I don’t make extra work for the nhs.

middleager · 06/01/2021 14:36

No, it's just virtue signalling now.

grool · 06/01/2021 14:37

Nope, didn't last time and I won't this time. Not because I don't appreciate the NHS, but I don't see how clapping for them achieves anything.

FoxyTheFox · 06/01/2021 14:37

No. I can appreciate the sentiment of doing it as a one off thing but when it became every Thursday and turned into a massive ordeal of one-upmanship and curtain-twitching it was too much. The residents group used to have posts on it along the lines of "well done, Such And Such Street, great turn out! You were really loud over on That Street There! Poor show on That Other Street though, only one house clapping, any reason why?" and people started to feel guilted into it. Then there were the twats who had to try and be the loudest. We had someone in the next street hooking up a sound system every week and doing an hour long street disco at top volume, there were fireworks, someone got the ships in the harbour to all sound their foghorns at the same time.

I'd rather stay indoors.

RonObvious · 06/01/2021 14:37

I don't know. I feel as if the NHS workers have been a little bit forgotten this time around. I can't imagine what it must be like to be working in hospitals right now - I have "corona fatigue", and I work from home. The relentless bad news, rule changes, worrying about whether to send the kids to school, worry about whether to attend funerals of family members, dealing with kids out of school and home learning, has left me pretty low and wiped. So, for NHS workers, having all of that, and having to witness first hand the damage that the virus is doing to people, whilst worrying about protecting themselves and their family...I don't know. There should be some way to acknowledge it, although, let's be honest, decent pay, conditions and staffing levels would be a better start!

KatieJaneGreen · 06/01/2021 14:38

@BamboozledandBefuddled

No. And if we have to put up with a bloke over the road trying to play a fucking trumpet again, things aren't going to be ending well for him.

1forAll74 · 06/01/2021 14:38

No. Some people where I lived just wanted to get outside and socialise last time, they did their clapping, then brought out teas and biscuits to share, whist chatting away for ages.

BlueGreenDreams · 06/01/2021 14:39

Oh fucking hell, please no.

The fucking whooping spoony pan banger over the road will be off again.

FippertyGibbett · 06/01/2021 14:39

No.

Whatever9999 · 06/01/2021 14:40

No! Because..

  1. It's my children's bedtime and one is still at school
  2. It doesn't actually do anything to help anyone
  3. It became a competition to see who could make the most noise last time
  4. It's virtue signally to the umpteenth degree
  5. I'm autistic and can't deal with the noise
  6. I live in an area that consistently votes in the party that decimated the NHS
  7. Last time it seemed that the worst rule breakers were the ones who made the most effort to be seen/heard.

tbh I'm dreading it, it sends me in to meltdown, stresses me completely, gives the neighbours something else to comment on me about and just pisses me off. If you all cared so much about the NHS staff, teachers, carers etc, then why keep voting in the party that have steadily eroded the funding for those services?

LivingOnAnIsland · 06/01/2021 14:40

Nope - didn't last time, won't this time.

MLMsuperfan · 06/01/2021 14:42

It's claptrap - pun intended.

KatieJaneGreen · 06/01/2021 14:43

Not done around here, thankfully.

FoxyTheFox · 06/01/2021 14:44

Someone on my FB feed has shared a post about it and captioned it: "I'd rather shit in my hands and clap".

fullofhope100 · 06/01/2021 14:44

@LeSangeEstDansLarbre

I’d rather everyone took that 5 minutes to email their MP to lobby for a pay rise for frontline NHS staff, and a realistic rise in NMW to give a realistic wage for the other support staff it’s supposed to celebrate, such as carers and people working in the food supply chain.
How about we do both?

CharlotteRose90 · 06/01/2021 14:45

Nope. Didn’t even know it was a thing haha. It doesn’t make a difference so no point.

Bourbonic · 06/01/2021 14:45

No. But I didn't do it last time either.

Springersrock · 06/01/2021 14:46

No

And if the twat behind me starts setting off fireworks again, he might just find himself with a rocket rammed up his arse

ekidmxcl · 06/01/2021 14:46

No
Clapping doesn’t help anyone
It’s moronic
I didn’t clap last time for these reasons
I find it atrocious actually. Almost worse than doing nothing useful. People who diarise clapping should instead do something helpful. Donate money to the NHS - many hospitals have direct giving enabled. Or help some other person in some way. But don’t fucking clap and consider yourself a good citizen.

EloraaDanan · 06/01/2021 14:47

How many times?!?!

NO!!!!!!

And if anybody disturbs me or my children with their mindless clapping, banging, music, singing and other inane bullshit, they’re going to told just how pathetic they are.

LindaEllen · 06/01/2021 14:47

I will, but only because I quite enjoyed getting out and chatting with the neighbours. I know we could do that anytime - but we don't.

SuperlativeScrubs · 06/01/2021 14:47

Just fucking NO! Stop voting Tory and actually support us in meaningful ways!

Moonbabyskalimba · 06/01/2021 14:48

I did it and enjoyed it last time. Not quite so enthusiastic this time round. I think the spirit of this lockdown is very different. Everyone is just fed up and wants to get their head down and just get through it. There'll be much less in the way of tik tok videos and banana bread as well

JamieLeesCurtains · 06/01/2021 14:48

@YellowandGreenToBeSeen

(I should add... no, because it allows the government to believe / feed into a ‘feel good factor’ and a ‘spirit’ that they will politicise, spin and use as evidence of popularity. And they can go fuck themselves as they have caused this unholy shit show. I think the people carrying the country through this - NHS, police, mental health workers, teachers, retail etc deserve pay rises not patronising).
