It’s back under a new name “clap for heroes.”

OP posts:
XenoBitch · 06/01/2021 14:00

Hell no. Would rather press my arse to my front window for all to see.

Kokeshi123 · 06/01/2021 14:00

Yay, let's wake up all the small children as their exhausted parents (on their knees after a day WFH while kid smashes the living room up) are trying to get them off to sleep. WHY at 8pm? So lacking in thought.

Pippa234 · 06/01/2021 14:01

No, because I think it's patronising.
I will just respect them by staying home and following the lockdown rules.

DdraigGoch · 06/01/2021 14:01

I had no intention of behaving like a performing seal the first time and have no plans to change my mind.

I show my support by only leaving home to work/shop and by not having guests around for a piss-up.

user1497207191 · 06/01/2021 14:01

No

passporttohell · 06/01/2021 14:02

I did it last time, have relatives on the frontline in NHS, but those relatives REALLY DON'T WANT this clapping.
It just made everyone resent them and coincidentally they were the only public-sector workers not to get a pay rise in the subsequent pay reviews.
It really makes a certain type of person feel aggrieved and resentful of these 'heroes' (which I think they are, but certainly the NHS staff I know don't feel like heroes and don't want this).

Dowser · 06/01/2021 14:02

@wanderings

Fuck, no.

Instead I am going to use a megaphone (yes, really, I have one), and keep shouting "Boris is a TWAT" for the duration of any clapping.

Haha Then I saw the name Well said wanderings 😂😂😂
LaMarschallin · 06/01/2021 14:02

No.
Especially with the re-branding: loathe the overuse and devaluation of the word "hero".

I worked for the NHS and I was no hero; I was doing a job - albeit one I was lucky enough to enjoy - for a wage.

Dowser · 06/01/2021 14:02

Looks like it’s a no from all of us then.

peasoup8 · 06/01/2021 14:03

No, because most NHS workers aren’t heroes.

RolandSchitt · 06/01/2021 14:03

No, I find the idea of it mortifying. No kne around here did it last time. Or the bells on Christmas eve.

passporttohell · 06/01/2021 14:03

Plus it made the tory-voting idiots in my road feel better about voting for these bunch of muppets and their underfunding the NHS policies, andI can do without soothing their troubled consciences.

Dowser · 06/01/2021 14:04

And when my son pops in with groceries from his 12 hour shift as a carer
He’ll get a cup of coffee and a biscuit, like everyone else 👍

unmarkedbythat · 06/01/2021 14:04

Absolutely fucking not, and this time round I will respond angrily to the social media policing posts if anyone attempts to shame others for not taking part in this pointless patronising exercise which allows people to pretend hsc workers are not treated and paid like shit.

Bluntness100 · 06/01/2021 14:05

No, when it was first put forward it was a lovely gesture. A way for the nation to say thank you. But then it became every week. And it all got a bit ridiculous. People used it as a social event, and a way to bully others into doing it. Some even brought friggen Musical instruments. It got to the stage the nhs staff wanted people to stop. It lost its meaning.

So no, I won’t do it again, but when we get out of this, then yes, I will. Once.

ThanksItHasPockets · 06/01/2021 14:05

No - I do one of the 'hero' jobs and frankly I'd rather have a modicum of respect from this government and my fellow citizens - including on MN.

JemimaPuddleQuack · 06/01/2021 14:05

No. It was bad enough last time. I am HCP and the very first time it was a bit emotional, going on for weeks afterwards was patronising and pointless. Rebranding it 'heroes' is awful. It's acceptable for heroes to die...because that's heroic. I dont want to be a hero doing my job, I dont want any of my colleagues to be either. I want us to go to work and come home again.

GypsyLee · 06/01/2021 14:06

No, if I lived near a hospital I'd join in as it must be lovely for them to hear it going on/ coming off their shifts.
Waste of time if you are the only one in your street, miles away from a hospital.

Lovely1a2b3c · 06/01/2021 14:06

No, because NHS workers are people whose lives matter and whose working conditions should be safe, not heroes who should be risking their lives for other people.

oakleaffy · 06/01/2021 14:06

We don't need bloody clapping.

We need actual investment in the NHS ..not clapping.

ElfAndSafetyInspector · 06/01/2021 14:07

Maybe instead of clapping, everyone could instead mentally resolve to stop giving them shit about sending their children to school, regardless of whether they have a husband, a grandparent or a parrot who could supervise zoom lessons?

Dowser · 06/01/2021 14:07

I’d boo for Boris, wanksock, Cummings, sturgeon and drake Ford though

RosieLancs · 06/01/2021 14:08

I will show my thanks by voting for a party who will give them a real payrise at the next election.
It is too cold to be standing outside mindlessly making a racket just because the neighbours are.

Carolofthebellies · 06/01/2021 14:08

No. I do appreciate their work but clapping, banging into the pots etc is just a circus.

User158340 · 06/01/2021 14:08

I don't take part in gimmicks.
