It’s back under a new name “clap for heroes.”

OP posts:
bathsh3ba · 06/01/2021 14:09

Didn't clap before and won't clap now. Empty virtue signalling.

DanielODonkey · 06/01/2021 14:09

Clap for heroes?

Unless it results in Thor or Superman appearing in person then no, I won't be clapping.

Whatayearalready21 · 06/01/2021 14:09

Shamefully we didn’t always take part last time. Not because I disagree with it but just because my children have sen and the noise would sometimes turn DS into an over excitable hyped up wide awake child before bed!

However, I’ve got to the point that I don’t think they need applauding but instead they need people to follow the rules so they will be out of this mess at some point!

Honkingallthewaytothebank · 06/01/2021 14:09

I'd happily take part if it was rebranded Boo For Boris though. I have plenty of boos for that particular cause.

Bagelsandbrie · 06/01/2021 14:09

Nope. Can’t stand stuff like that.

user1497207191 · 06/01/2021 14:10

I'd presume NHS workers would be far more appreciative of everyone following the rules/precautions to help stop the spread of covid.

It was sickening to see all the virtue signalling by the people clapping every Thursday, but still socialising, having friends round, etc at other times. Hypocracy as it's best!

PussyCatInChristmasStockings · 06/01/2021 14:10

@Dowser

I’d boo for Boris, wanksock, Cummings, sturgeon and drake Ford though
I think a national "Boo at Boris" might catch on...
MadisonAvenue · 06/01/2021 14:11

No.
I didn’t last time and have no desire to do so this time. Even if I wanted to though I couldn’t because I need to calm the dog down when the idiots start letting off fireworks.

billybagpuss · 06/01/2021 14:11

Last time it was warm and daylight and a good excuse to chat to the neighbours, this time is dark wet and cold, so no.

Keeping2ChevronsApart · 06/01/2021 14:12

We did it last time as DP felt pressured by all the neighbours going out. No way will I be doing it this time. He hasn't mentioned it so I'm guessing he's not heard about it yet, as he'd be pacing up and down very stressed 🙁

iklboo · 06/01/2021 14:12

Good grief no. My friend is a nurse and she hates the idea.

oakleaffy · 06/01/2021 14:12

Rainbows in windows was a thing that was lovely the first time round...?But gradually they faded in the summer sun, and were taken down.

The Christmas lights in windows and in front gardens ,on trees and shrubs, while nothing to do with NHS is a lovely thing to see.

EveningOverRooftops · 06/01/2021 14:13

No. I’m an unpaid carer and have had all my much needed respite taken away for 12mths now.
Dc is slipping further behind and much needed support is on hold.

Clap for me? Crack on but I’ll be holding every fucker to account if real, lasting changes aren’t made for all unpaid carers including allowances to access university courses with scholarships and/or reduced coatings. Yours a mum that out my career on hold for a decade and need to retrain but can afford to do it under the current carer/student loan situation

Womencanlift · 06/01/2021 14:13

I have family members who are both carers and hero’s as per the descriptions given and I can say in their view it is all a complete waste of time

pictish · 06/01/2021 14:14

@DdraigGoch

I had no intention of behaving like a performing seal the first time and have no plans to change my mind.

I show my support by only leaving home to work/shop and by not having guests around for a piss-up.

Same here. I didn’t clap for the NHS either. The first week I missed the whole thing though I thought it was a nice gesture, the second week I forgot all about it, by the time the third week rolled around everyone had become so insufferably full of themselves about it, I elected not to bother.

I won’t be clapping for carers. I’m a child development worker in a school for children with additional support needs and will be working as normal...who’s clapping for me? It’s fine of course...I’m not looking for a round of applause, I’m simply doing my job because I’ll get the sack if I don’t. The fact that I am able to be tangibly useful and stay busy in a time of need and lockdown is bonus enough for me.

Doublefaced · 06/01/2021 14:14

Don’t fucking bother.
Regards

Another broken nurse.

Ninkanink · 06/01/2021 14:14

No.

MLMsuperfan · 06/01/2021 14:15

Not a chance. It's for simpletons.

pictish · 06/01/2021 14:15

I have nothing but admiration and sympathy for the staff of the NHS btw.

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 06/01/2021 14:16

No

WobbliHead3000 · 06/01/2021 14:16

No. Clapping doesn’t put food on the table.
It’s ridiculous.

ClaireP20 · 06/01/2021 14:16

I did last time and really enjoyes it - seeing all the neighbours out was great fun, we live in a built up area and everyone came out to clap!

BUT I won't do it this time.....because it just feels like it's been done to death...also last time it was warm and light, this time it's freezing and dark!

LaMarschallin · 06/01/2021 14:16

My DH was very much the same.
We didn't do it. I adamantly said I wouldn't but wouldn't object if he wanted to.
He didn't want to (like me, he used to work for the NHS and would have been mortified to think people were clapping for us) but I could see him squirming all through it under the weight of peer pressure.

Aquagirl19 · 06/01/2021 14:17

Oh no not this shite again.
