Exercise is now once a day by law?

I’m confused. I thought Boris said it was unlimited. It definitely says once a day in the new lockdown guidance:

You can continue to exercise alone, with one other person or with your household or support bubble. This should be limited to once per day, and you should not travel outside your local area. You should maintain social distancing. See exercising and meeting other people.

@lemons1571 I have heard the police have stopped some round here to check essential trips etc
But i think once a day is to stop
People popping out and meeting one person on one walk and one on another etc , also advice is to stay local to your area.
Its all about limiting the amount of trips out as after all the main advice is stay home.

annevonkleve · 06/01/2021 19:15

Oh I see it was in Maidenhead. And people just meekly obeyed?

Hmm I might have to start carrying the rules around with me (I've done it with the National Conditions of Carriage on trains before now).

Zipperdidoodaa · 06/01/2021 19:15

Oh Fgs just use your common sense! What in the name of god do you think is going to happen if you go out for a run in the morning snd a walk in the afternoon! The police have more to do than monitor your exercise regime. It's highly unlikely that the virus is spread outdoors anyway so just go out when you want to as long as you're not mixing with people in a busy area it'll be fine

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 06/01/2021 19:15

@annevonkleve cars break down regularly that are maintained things can go wrong , and you may have to get close if it cannot be fixed on roadside and they still have to touch the things you have etc and still another interaction

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 06/01/2021 19:18

I bet a lot on here who say they will break the guidance are quick to moan at others who do in another way. Because they deem what they are doing to be safer or more needed, double standards really .

annevonkleve · 06/01/2021 19:18

Nowadays I need to head out of the house and label it “exercise” in order to get past 3,000

This. Yesterday I had done 1000 steps by lunchtime. Fortunately I did a 10k run in the evening but if I just stayed at home I would "literally" turn into a lump of something.

No they don't. I've not broken down by the side of the road in about 15 years. I have had the odd issue at home, but have home start so the kind AA man has come and sorted it and you don't need to breathe in their faces.

annevonkleve · 06/01/2021 19:20

Well it appears that Thames Valley police haven't.

Loulablake · 06/01/2021 19:21

If exercising twice a day helps you, then do it. Just be safe (don’t drive to Barnard castle though to check, that’s to far) xx

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 06/01/2021 19:22

Also many if us still have to work so going out cor exercise even once a day is hard

This is just nonsense.

In twenty years of driving my car has broken down once.

The guidance about staying local isn’t because of cars breaking down. Hmm

PurpleDaisies · 06/01/2021 19:23

So what? It isn’t compulsory.
donewithitalltodayandxmas · 06/01/2021 19:23

@annevonkleve well I have broken down despite my car being maintained and if it can't be fixed roadside how you getting home?
Head gasket going can't be predicted funnily enough

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 06/01/2021 19:24

@PurpleDaisies it was a point to all those moaning that they shouldn't be travelling too far to exercise or maybe should limit it and not go out 5/6 times ,

Catcoffeecake · 06/01/2021 19:26

The once a day bit is if you exercise with another person from a different household. It's so you don't meet one friend in the morning and another in the afternoon. If you're by yourself, think it's unlimited. Not very clear, though.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 06/01/2021 19:26

@PurpleDaisies good for you if that was standard the aa and rac wouldn't be in business would they.
I know the guidance isn't purely for that but it should be taken into account not to travel too far especially when the guidance is not too. I live not far from beaches and last lockdown people were travelling from miles away

PurpleDaisies · 06/01/2021 19:27

Where have you seen this?
PilatesPeach · 06/01/2021 19:27

It was people in Maidenhead trying to cross the bridge over the Thames to get to Tesco in Taplow 2 miles away up one main road. They were turned round by the police who subsequently apologised and blamed it on an over-enthusiastic copper.
Evidently they did not have enough to do and it happened yesterday before the legislation had even come into force.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 06/01/2021 19:30

@Catcoffeecake that makes more sense but people also need to take some responisbility a walk on your own couple times a day , or taking kids in morning and you go on your own later isn't too much of an issue.
Someone meeting up with 5 different friends although singularly is.
No ones going to know who has exercised how many times a day , but if you travel too far out of your area local poilce can tell possibly of car is registered to home address

It doesn’t matter whether I’m 5 miles or 100metres from my house. If my car breaks down I’m calling the AA.

It’s pretty easy to stay 2m away from someone fixing your car and the interaction would be outside anyway.

People should stay local, but trying to make out its in case they break down is a bit silly.

Witchend · 06/01/2021 19:33

@annevonkleve

Just remember if you break-down to walk back without approaching other people or calling anyone to help

If cars are properly maintained they don't break down. Puncture perhaps, but in any event you don't need to get close to the person fixing it for you.

Grin

Really?
An awful lot of breakdowns can't be predicted even by a good trained mechanic.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 06/01/2021 19:33

@EeeehElsie and no one is going to stop you plus would probably fall under medical ground etc anyway

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 06/01/2021 19:35

@PurpleDaisies it is a factor to take into account , what if car can't be fixed roadside , if your 10 mins from home not so bad , 50 miles a little trickier as you can't walk back

llllantisiliogogogoch · 06/01/2021 19:36

The Belgians for all their failings on Covid (especially care homes) do have one sensible idea- exercise must be accessed by walking or cycling from home, not by car. No equivalent of going to the Brecon Beacons or Derbyshire Dales for a short walk with or without the dog.

karalou2 · 06/01/2021 19:37

Yes, he definitely said unlimited exercise, as did Wales. He can be blamed for a lot, but not other peoples translation mistakes....
