I guess people take the word ‘lockdown’ a lot more seriously than tier blah de blah.

MaudesMum · 04/01/2021 15:13

With the exception of school closures, there's no real difference between Tier 4 and lockdown, is there?

itsgettingweird · 04/01/2021 15:14

@Delatron

Bloody hell. I don’t drink on Mondays!
You do now Grin
Chickydoo · 04/01/2021 15:14

Is the 4th too soon to give up dry Jan!
Bloody Hell this is a shit show!
I have a yr 11 son, desperate that his education is screwed. My business is just hanging on in there having moved online. DH redundant. DS NHS frontline, elderly father isolating & slowly giving up due to loneliness.
What a total nightmare. Lockdown 3 here we come!

chaosisaladder · 04/01/2021 15:14

“Alas, I am incompetent”

Blubellsarebells · 04/01/2021 15:14

"I think he’ll give a full and honest account of his failings; admit that the current shit show wasn’t inevitable and could have been negated if he’d spent the summer planning and preparing for winter; and then his resignation."
Bless you, bluebaubles, youve gone delirious Wink
I hope you're right.
He's a useless twat but I cant see him admitting that.

Dogatetheleftovers · 04/01/2021 15:14

If it’s a televised address then they’ll be no questions from journalists. How convenient!

HibernatingTill2030 · 04/01/2021 15:16

@TakingItOnTheChin

Is Tier 4 even working? Don't think it isHmm
Where I live (T4 area), numbers were on a slight decline until they rose again yesterday, which could either still be catching up from all the bank holidays or (more likely) as a result of Christmas mixing.
Ohchristmastreeohchristmastree · 04/01/2021 15:16

They sent schools back today!!!!! WTAF!

It’s almost like they want to see if it can get worse. It’s like they have stuck a fork in a plug socket just to see what happens!

LoudTree · 04/01/2021 15:16

Hopefully he will announce a real lockdown for the first time- no one leaves home until April 1st unless a genuine key worker.

A neighbour in my street is a (totally non-essential) construction worker and has been asked repeatedly by myself, DH and several neighbours to go on furlough to reduce the risk of transmission to the area. He has refused Hmm

No exercise, no popping to the shops for a bottle of wine Hmm

It needs to be properly enforced- army on the streets issuing £500 fines for non key workers, supermarket bags searched for non-essential items.

Sparklingbrook · 04/01/2021 15:16

Much discussion about it here

itsgettingweird · 04/01/2021 15:16

@EloraaDanan

Can I just say that everyone in healthcare professions predicted this months ago. In April we were all saying October would be a huge turn for the worse, then January after Christmas, relaxation of rules or no relaxation of rules. It was shouted from the rooftops, the government heard us. They KNEW this would happen.
I'm sorry you were ignored.

And I'm sorry that outs further pressure on you.

And I'm sorry it means years of catching up for you as well as patients as I know from my ds consultants they feel guilty for delaying anything. (For us it's just genetic study but I said I totally get why genetics are focussing elsewhere currently and knowing what ds genetic fault does and why isn't going to stop him being disabled)

And thankyou to all the nhs staff who have worked themselves to the bone for months and will do so even more for the next few.

year5teacher · 04/01/2021 15:17

@Beebityboo

Peston says all schools to close. Everyone tier 4.
Oh christ, it’s probably this isn’t it. God I just wanted to get in for one day to see my class. I know that’s not worth it but this stupid fucking inset has prevented that. I KNOW it’s prevented more mixing but the idea that I could end up not seeing most of my class in person for god knows how long is just heartbreaking.
HibernatingTill2030 · 04/01/2021 15:18

I mean, to be fair, it's not really. up to the neighbours to "repeatedly" ask. The man still needs to live, and if his company isn't going to furlough him, what can he do?

I can’t believe you asked your neighbour to get himself furloughed.

Oh, honestly! Who the hell gets to decide what's essential anyway?

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 04/01/2021 15:19

Oh god I hope the above is sarcasm Shock

purpleboy · 04/01/2021 15:19

Loud tree I really hope your joking Shock

God I love Mumsnet sometimes.

Adelais · 04/01/2021 15:20

Guess I didn’t need to wash dds school uniform ready for going back tomorrow then.

Fandaddydoozie · 04/01/2021 15:20

He's just going to reassure us that there will be no lockdown as it would be 'inhumane' to allow parents to wash and iron school uniforms only to impose a lockdown! Then he'll announcement a full lockdown at 8.30am tomorrow morning!

HibernatingTill2030 · 04/01/2021 15:20

What the actual fuck... allowing potential thousands of kids to mix for ONE BLOODY DAY, less than 2 weeks after Christmas.

W...T....F.

cheezy · 04/01/2021 15:20

@LoudTree please say your suggestions are tongue in cheek. Confused

itsgettingweird · 04/01/2021 15:21

Loud. I hope not. That's a bit extreme. And why shouldn't people put a non essential (what is that anyway?) in their basket when they are shopping?

I went to Aldi this morning. I brought meat and groceries, a few toiletries and some dry and freezer goods.

I didn't need the ice cream and squirty cream with chocolate chips I also brought. It's not essential staple food.
But ds and I are wfh all day (well he's college so studying) then going for a walk in the freezing cold and dark and we wanted pudding after our dinner as we'd be hungry.

Fandaddydoozie · 04/01/2021 15:21

@Adelais

Crossed post! We were thinking exactly the same!
