I'm assuming the same rules and exceptions as last time, does anyone know?

@SomethingInTheWaySheCooks

Does the two people, two households meeting outside rule mean a family of four can’t exercise outside, say in a walk? Or is it just two when meeting others?
A family of four who live in the same house are one household. So no restriction on going for a walk together.

If they are all adults, then they can no longer meet another adult to share the walk with them, because the other adult can't meet more than one person from another household outdoors.

I really hope councils allow video lessons. The education my kids got during lockdown was pitiful and it really added to the stress.

2magpies1pigeon · 04/01/2021 15:35

The education unions seem to be a lot stronger in Scotland than in England.

Peppafrig · 04/01/2021 15:35

@Sarcobaleno sorry I certainly wasn’t meaning to take it out on you . Just dreading the phone call to work to say I need to be off the entire of January our busiest time of the time. She is saying employers have to be supportive but it’s ok for her to say that until something is in law. I just hope I’m allowed to be furloughed or I will be unpaid all of January. No childcare at all my friends are all working from home so will struggle enough with their own kids . My parents also working from home .

2magpies1pigeon · 04/01/2021 15:35

I assume that students in Scotland will still be able to travel to England to go back to university? Hope they won't cut too many train services.

lyralalala · 04/01/2021 15:40

@GreenlandTheMovie

I'm not sure I'm a fan of the policy in Scotland all summer to allow drinking in pubs but not to allow swimming in public pools or going to the gym. So while most competitive sports were banned, and the people that run businesses involved in those struggling, it was still fine to go to the pub and drink with unrelated people.
Scottish households were more limited on mixing with other people in the summer. While England could have 6 people from 6 households Scottish adults could only mix with 6 people from 2 households.

@MathsFiend

How many times does this need explained? Scotland had eliminated COVID in the summer. However, Scottish government does not have ability to close borders. UK government encouraged people to travel abroad by removing Foreign Office advice on limiting travel to essential purposes only, and by introducing air bridges. This led to introducing new variants of the virus and new chains of transmission into Scotland.

UK government should have closed borders to all but essential travel, and mirrored Sturgeon’s more cautious approach when removing the lockdown restrictions in England. Then we wouldn’t be in the state we currently are.

Sorry am I misunderstanding your post are you saying Scotland had eliminated the virus in the summer? And it was then reintroduced due to travel from and into the country?

Unless I have missed some statistics they definitely did not! it is wildly inaccurate! have you got any links to where you saw that?

Please accept my apologies if I have misunderstood you post though.

Scotland had extremely low cases in the summer. Maybe not elliminated the virus but they did very well. It was a case of people going on holiday and travelling that caused cases to rise.

Fortherosesjoni70 · 04/01/2021 15:51

Combined with a relaxing of attitudes which didnt help.

user1487194234 · 04/01/2021 15:55

Is golf allowed. So good for my DH to get out of the house.
Is it just me or is it just the same as Level 4 but the schools are closed ?

jrb123 · 04/01/2021 15:55

Happy to be in Scotland, proud to be Scottish with a fine First Minister.

CleansUpPenguinPoo · 04/01/2021 15:59

“Posturing and spin”

SERIOUSLY?!

Yes. Total spin. Because those of us actually living in Scotland know that nothing is changing. Everything was closed on Christmas Eve and has not reopened.

This whole "full lockdown" thing is spin. And it suits Sturgeon's rhetoric to be seen as harder than Boris.

Exactly - Boris is making an announcement at 8pm tonight, and as usual Nicola rushed out to pre-empt him, doing her usual political grab of declaring the way forward in full knowledge of Boris' plans.

Peppafrig · 04/01/2021 16:03

@jrb123 happy to live in the country with the highest drug deaths wow.

Shelby30 · 04/01/2021 16:04

Still not a full lockdown like March. Non essential businesses are open 🙄

dementedpixie · 04/01/2021 16:05

What are you counting as non essential?

florafoxtrot · 04/01/2021 16:07

@CleansUpPenguinPoo - If you really truly believe that’s what’s going on. Then I don’t really even know what to say. Hmm

cdtaylornats · 04/01/2021 16:07

Imagine how generous Boris could be if his government wasn't paying for everything.

FirTree31 · 04/01/2021 16:09

*@DumplingsAndStew

If primary schools are to close, then absolutely university's should. I say that as a student and someone who worked in them. Primary school closure, indeed secondary school, should equate to everything closed.

OllyBJolly · 04/01/2021 16:11

Utter rubbish. Nicola's announcement was planned and communicated last night when the Scottish Parliament was recalled, following a Scottish Cabinet meeting this morning. The decision for Boris to speak was taken today.

Ginkypig · 04/01/2021 16:13

@Fortherosesjoni70

Yes I have been closely keeping an eye on the the Scottish numbers as I live here, have family spread over most health board areas and several family members who are vulnerable or on the shielding list.

I agree we were doing very well for a little while in terms of numbers and also agree that travel was a terrible idea as it did terribly increase transmission but that’s a far cry from saying it was eliminated!

C0NNIE · 04/01/2021 16:15

@sirfredfredgeorge

Good to see churches are still completely covid secure until Friday, thank the lord!
I’d imagine that 20 people sitting socially distanced in a church ( not allowed to sing or talk to each other ) are slightly safer than 200 people in a supermarket, chatting to others for 15 mins in the narrow aisles.
florafoxtrot · 04/01/2021 16:15

@OllyBJolly Exactly! But seems many don’t let the simple concept of how time works get in the way of a good conspiracy theory.

YouBoughtMeAWall · 04/01/2021 16:18

@DBML

Out of all the nations leaders, it’s ironic that Sturgeon has the biggest balls.
NI locked down on Boxing Day.
Peppafrig · 04/01/2021 16:19

She said anyone who can’t work from home should go to work so any work that can’t be done from home is allowed. Out with retail and leisure .

Throwntothewolves · 04/01/2021 16:25

This is not just level 4 plus schools closed for those who are saying that. I'm a 'key worker' who can't work at all now due to the reintroduction of shielding. Work is very safe as only the minimum number of essential staff are allowed to be there at any given time. But now I'll have to stay at home. Ironic really considering my child had just been allocated a key worker place at school. What was ok last week is not now. Things have very definitely changed with this latest announcement.
