I'm assuming the same rules and exceptions as last time, does anyone know?

@CleansUpPenguinPoo

“Posturing and spin”

SERIOUSLY?!

Yes. Total spin. Because those of us actually living in Scotland know that nothing is changing. Everything was closed on Christmas Eve and has not reopened.

This whole "full lockdown" thing is spin. And it suits Sturgeon's rhetoric to be seen as harder than Boris.

Exactly - Boris is making an announcement at 8pm tonight, and as usual Nicola rushed out to pre-empt him, doing her usual political grab of declaring the way forward in full knowledge of Boris' plans.

I doubt very much Bojo shares full knowledge of anything he plans with Nicola.. plus she always makes her announcements at that time. Why is he waiting till 8pm if he doesn't want to be "pre-empted".
PlumbNormal · 04/01/2021 16:37

It's not just Level 4 plus schools closed. Nurseries too. I feel positively in despair about having to work full time from home with two kids under 4.

Complete nonsense. The meeting on the cabinet was announced at the weekend. More the other way round! Boris has even let the schools go back in England ffs. It defies logic.
Fortherosesjoni70 · 04/01/2021 16:40

Sh3bhas reintroduced shielding which is a good thingSmile

Jellycatspyjamas · 04/01/2021 16:41

Not just level 4 with schools closed, reduction in groups meeting outside, teenagers restricted to meeting one other person outside, enforced by law. Stay at home directive... might not feel worse if you’ve been living in a fairly restricted way but it’s definitely tighter

Pinkcadillac · 04/01/2021 16:48

Scottish govt has adopted UK govt's tier 4 restrictions on leaving home as set out two weeks ago

How many times does this need explained? Scotland had eliminated COVID in the summer. However, Scottish government does not have ability to close borders. UK government encouraged people to travel abroad by removing Foreign Office advice on limiting travel to essential purposes only, and by introducing air bridges. This led to introducing new variants of the virus and new chains of transmission into Scotland.

UK government should have closed borders to all but essential travel, and mirrored Sturgeon’s more cautious approach when removing the lockdown restrictions in England. Then we wouldn’t be in the state we currently are.

Sorry am I misunderstanding your post are you saying Scotland had eliminated the virus in the summer? And it was then reintroduced due to travel from and into the country?

Unless I have missed some statistics they definitely did not! it is wildly inaccurate! have you got any links to where you saw that?

Please accept my apologies if I have misunderstood you post though.[/quote]

The number of cases over the summer fell to low single digits and even reduced to 0 on some days. Low enough to be contained through effective test and trace and hence effectively eliminated. New chains of transmission began due to people travelling outside of Scotland and bringing covid back with them.

I'm pretty sure it was the other way round wasn't it? NS' announcement then Boris' 'announcement that he's going to make an announcement' What a shower
Pinkcadillac · 04/01/2021 17:09

Sturgeon has basically copied England's Tier 4 Stay at Home rules plus schools closure for an additional week, nothing revolutionary.

Is golf allowed. So good for my DH to get out of the house. Is it just me or is it just the same as Level 4 but the schools are closed ?
I think golf is a total anomaly just now. If courses are allowed to remain open they need to be maintained but the workers who do that such as my husband aren't classed as key workers which means we don't qualify for any childcare even though I am one and only 30% of my work can be done from home. We are now back to trying to juggle 2 full time time jobs mostly out of the home with looking after an 8 and a 2 year old....neither employer is going to be happy.
dementedpixie · 04/01/2021 17:25

Outdoor non-contact sportssuch as golf andtennis are permitted for all age groups provided this is within a single household group, or the group contains no more than 2 people from 2 different households. Children under the age of 12 from these households do not count towards this number.

dementedpixie · 04/01/2021 17:28

www.gov.scot/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-stay-at-home-guidance/ this is the updated guidance

user1487194234 · 04/01/2021 19:44

Glad for DH re golf
I feel he needs that
Would the course not need to be maintained anyway?

Hi2021 · 04/01/2021 19:49

Yes this is correct

Johan23 · 04/01/2021 19:49

Finding it difficult to give a flying duck about someone’s husband playing golf just now; probably not a high priority issue

Hi2021 · 04/01/2021 19:50

About Scotland effectively eliminating covid in the summer

Yes it would but less so at this time of year compared to last lockdown due to the weather. They also need people on site to.make sure the cv19 rules are being followed. I'm just frustrated and venting at the disparities in key worker childcare provision across areas - in some places my key worker status would be enough regardless of what DH does..

Completely agree. But of course, I’m sure the Very Important Husband needs his special me-time.
Agirlnamedsam · 04/01/2021 21:03

@MathsFiend I need some support working from home while looking after my 5 year old at the same time. I imagine that is trumped by NHS staff needing more support and resources, and the patients needing oxygen to breathe. But thank fuck user 38428’s husband can play golf: he needs it

MathsFiend · 04/01/2021 21:18

@Agirlnamedsam Grin

DumplingsAndStew · 04/01/2021 22:56

Come on, that's not fair. We don't know the reasons why they are relieved to be able to play golf. There's a 13 year old boy at my kids' school who has a degenerative, life-limiting medical condition. He plays golf as a form of physio and therapy.

Yes, it could be selfish bullshit, but it's not always straight forward. Try to remember that.
