I'm assuming the same rules and exceptions as last time, does anyone know?

Relieved to hear this. I hope England follows suit in the next couple of days, very frightening to watch it all unfold down there. Hold tight, everyone.

MimiDaisy11 · 04/01/2021 15:07

@SomethingInTheWaySheCooks

Does the two people, two households meeting outside rule mean a family of four can’t exercise outside, say in a walk? Or is it just two when meeting others?
I took from that that it was about meeting other households since she said what the rule was before and how it is changed now. It makes no sense to limit people from the same household outside.
Hi2021 · 04/01/2021 15:07

Sounds like play parks still open as far as I know , which is a relief though wouldn’t want to go if busy..... vaccine roll out should make it much better but will take a few months sounds like .....

userxx · 04/01/2021 15:08

Are takeaway cafes still open ?

RaspberryCoulis · 04/01/2021 15:08

@florafoxtrot

“Posturing and spin”

SERIOUSLY?!

Yes. Total spin. Because those of us actually living in Scotland know that nothing is changing. Everything was closed on Christmas Eve and has not reopened.

This whole "full lockdown" thing is spin. And it suits Sturgeon's rhetoric to be seen as harder than Boris.

2magpies1pigeon · 04/01/2021 15:09

Why have councils banned video lessons? Why can other countries do it, but not Scotland? I was talking to someone in Azerbaijan, and they've been having 3 hours of live video lessons a day for months.

RaspberryCoulis · 04/01/2021 15:09

@userxx

Are takeaway cafes still open ?
Yes - but many here are asking you to place your order and wait outside while they prepare it.
Sarcobaleno · 04/01/2021 15:10

Grateful at least that NS has given us more notice snd information than England get. Boris seems to have learned nothing since March. Lockdown hard and fast? Not on his watch. Dreadful for schools, kids and parents who still don't know what's happening with schools going back in England. Not a nationalist but certainly grateful to be Scottish today. Hope Boris wises up for you England...

dementedpixie · 04/01/2021 15:11

I imagine takeaways will stay open

RaspberryCoulis · 04/01/2021 15:12

Our council just throws around words like "safeguarding".

During the first lockdown, we had no communication at all from any teachers (and I have three kids, two were in secondary, one in primary). One of the ones in secondary had his most important exams cancelled. No phone call, no video lessons. I think we had one email.

Hi2021 · 04/01/2021 15:12

1000-2000+ new cases a day here - sadly it’s not just spin

lyralalala · 04/01/2021 15:13

There's nothing "spin" about giving people clear notice of what is happening.

At least people in Scotland could make plans before Christmas knowing what was happening in early Jan. Now they can make plans until Feb.

We don't even know what the rules are going to be on schools tomorrow here.

Sarcobaleno · 04/01/2021 15:13

@RaspberryCoulis don't agree. I've seen crowds of people out walking over the holidays which was allowed. No longer. People having other people over for drinks in their garages and sheds. Was allowed. No longer. It is very different now. Teenagers no longer allowed big groups. All good decisions

MimiDaisy11 · 04/01/2021 15:14

I'm not sure if people's behaviour will change but I think a leader laying out what is acceptable and what is not and that it will be enforced by law is important at this time. For people who were becoming a little lack maybe hearing that we're in lockdown and it's to be similar to how it was last spring might have an effect.

GreenlandTheMovie · 04/01/2021 15:15

@Peppafrig

Looks like workplaces are still open if you can’t work from home so not as tough as last time. Construction etc was all closed last time this time is open . So now I need to work out of the house and be at home homeschooling . Guess I will be unpaid the rest of the month ,
Workplaces have always been open. I know plenty of people in Edinburgh who have been going into work throughout.
Peppafrig · 04/01/2021 15:17

@GreenlandTheMovie I should have said non essential workplaces .

Sarcobaleno · 04/01/2021 15:17

@Peppafrig lots of people did that in March. My husband and I both had to go out to work the whole way through.

MacDuffsMuff · 04/01/2021 15:18

I don't like wee Nicola at all, but she's strong and she's got balls I'll give her that.

Peppafrig · 04/01/2021 15:23

@Sarcobaleno maybe you can give me some advice then on how three children under 10 are meant to look at after themselves at home while their parents are out doing non essential work ?

2bazookas · 04/01/2021 15:23

New Scotland restriction on outdoor meetings; maximum of two people (previously 6) from no more than 2 households .

Does not include children under 11 but does include age 12 to 17.

florafoxtrot · 04/01/2021 15:23

@RaspberryCoulis. I live in Scotland thanks.

And I now know that my child’s nursery won’t open until 1st Feb earliest - previously could have been 18th Jan. And we can now longer meet in groups of 6 from 2 households - now only 2 from 2 households (exception for kids) So for me, yes it’s different.

I don’t think it takes much to be harder than Boris tbh. You just need to be able to form a comprehensive sentence.

Sarcobaleno · 04/01/2021 15:27

@Peppafrig not sure why you're sounding grumpy at me! I get it entirely! Just pointing out its not a new thing... I think childcare bubbles are more flexible now. Could that help you? She also made clear that employers had to be supportive and I really hope they are. Any chance of requesting furlough? I hope it works out for you

2magpies1pigeon · 04/01/2021 15:29

I've been unhappy about school provision too. Just some written stuff to do for months, with almost no communication with teachers. Just muttering safeguarding doesn't cut it. Other countries can do it. Why is Scotland so inflexible?

userxx · 04/01/2021 15:29

@RaspberryCoulis Will they be in the new lockdown from tomorrow ? Just thinking about a client up there.

GreenlandTheMovie · 04/01/2021 15:30

I'm not sure I'm a fan of the policy in Scotland all summer to allow drinking in pubs but not to allow swimming in public pools or going to the gym. So while most competitive sports were banned, and the people that run businesses involved in those struggling, it was still fine to go to the pub and drink with unrelated people.
