Is your Tier 4 school open today?

Had a text on Friday from the head saying she is monitoring the news and will update us if anything changes. No word since then so I'm presuming school is open today. How many other Tier 4 schools are open? I'm sending DS in as I need to work outside the home but if a lockdown is announced one day at school seems a bit ridiculous.

I'm in tier 4 greater Manchester, my 3 children's nursery, infant and junior schools are open. DH is a governor at the infants and the head said short of government closing them, the only other reason to shut would be staff shortages due to either illness, self isolation, or union action. Thankfully none apply at present for our schools.

Whydoelephants · 04/01/2021 05:40

No, they emailed yesterday and are closed to all including keyworker children and vulnerable children.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 04/01/2021 05:44

Our head has been keen to keep the school open as much as possible wejammin so I'm guessing it's the same situation here.

Yea but rates are under 200 here. We've been in tier 3 (then 4) for ages. And it was 2-3 times that for most of last term.

We are up north though. Not sure much of the new variant yet.

Madeupwithit · 04/01/2021 06:55

Greater Manchester - the SN school my son goes to is shut today and they will update us on when they will open.

Even though every child that attends there has an EHCP, they usually choose to close or refuse anyone but key worker children so I don't hold out much hope.

mnahmnah · 04/01/2021 06:57

My DC primary school is open as normal. They’ve never had a single case. I’m a secondary teacher, so it is a training day today followed by remote learning all week. Until another announcement later, I expect...

WhoseThatGirl · 04/01/2021 06:58

Closed here - Manchester

MistletoeandGin · 04/01/2021 07:00

Yes. Our numbers are fairly low.

Kylorey · 04/01/2021 07:01

Yes, primary and nursery both open. Head v keen to stay open I think. They've had cases at both the nursery and the school since September and haven't closed once.

If this national lockdown does happen this is ridiculous.

Kylorey · 04/01/2021 07:01

Area is about 400+ cases per 100k

Doublechins · 04/01/2021 07:02

My DC school is open. North East cases are about 250 per 100k. Lots of schools around us are closed though.

chillychicken · 04/01/2021 07:04

Yes we’re open. Cases around 380 per 100k.

StealthPolarBear · 04/01/2021 07:05

NE. ours is but many seem to be closed, according to Facebook.

Monkeytennis97 · 04/01/2021 07:06

No. 1000 per 100,000

Deliaskis · 04/01/2021 07:06

T4 area, rate about 250/100k at the moment, today is an inset day but they've confirmed opening to pupils tomorrow. Could all change before then though.

Not all of T4 have terrible numbers though. Ours is lower than it was got much of last term and we had no cases. I realise that once the new variant really takes hold that could change quickly though.

SantaMonicaPier · 04/01/2021 07:07

Our T3 primary announced last night it's closed and will evaluate today

Indecisivelurcher · 04/01/2021 07:08

Ours has a pre-planned inset day today, but open tomorrow as normal. Tier 4. My towns cases are 166 / 100k which seems lower than many saying above.

DataColour · 04/01/2021 07:09

Manchester here. DCs primary still open , we had a text confirming this yesterday. Secondary closed.

Popcornriver · 04/01/2021 07:09

Open and rates above 500 Sad

A few schools have closed and others partially closed.

happylittlechick · 04/01/2021 07:10

The government only listen to the concerns of London and the south. If you're up north they don't care. I imagine most northern schools are open regardless of tier or risk.

Callmecordelia · 04/01/2021 07:11

Open. Rate of nearly 800 in vicinity of school and just over 700 in our district council area.

I'm in one of the Kent districts that is still open.

RosesforMama · 04/01/2021 07:14

No, closed to everyone today and opening (to those with 2 key worker parents or EHCP only) Tuesday. Until further notice. Manchester; Rates lower than they were most of last term but they are worried about new variant I guess.

DebbieFiderer · 04/01/2021 07:14

Inset day today with a text message yesterday basically saying 'watch this space'. LA cases at 700/100,000, our village is over 1,000/100,000. Head will probably only close if her hand is forced by teachers not willing to come in, but they are mostly young and healthy so not sure how many will send the letters in.

Useruseruserusee · 04/01/2021 07:14

No, closed by the government last week. Rates over 1000. DS will be going in for a KW place as both of us are teachers and needed at our own schools.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 04/01/2021 07:17

Closed today awaiting further info
