Is your Tier 4 school open today?

Had a text on Friday from the head saying she is monitoring the news and will update us if anything changes. No word since then so I'm presuming school is open today. How many other Tier 4 schools are open? I'm sending DS in as I need to work outside the home but if a lockdown is announced one day at school seems a bit ridiculous.

OP posts:

We are at 666/100k and primary is due to open on Tuesday.

ForeverBubblegum · 04/01/2021 07:18

Ours already had a training day today, but have messaged to say their having a meeting to review risk, and will tell use some time today if their opening tomorrow. However they have also asked for key worker parents to get in touch to arrange palaces, so it seems likely they will close.

clto2021 · 04/01/2021 07:18

Yes, both my workplace and my children's schools are open today. Tier 4 in North Hampshire. We are all going in

Daisysflowers · 04/01/2021 07:18

Closed here in Essex.

Manteo · 04/01/2021 07:21

Yes. Rates are 600 per 100k. They've just told us parents have to wear masks onsite now.

We’ve had to wear masks on site since September, I genuinely thought everyone did!
milkysmum · 04/01/2021 07:24

Tier 4 Lancashire. Primary is open as normal, email from school over weekend though basically asking parents to start preparing for closures soon.

unicornparty · 04/01/2021 07:25

Mine is closed in tier 4.

milkysmum · 04/01/2021 07:25

Manteo parents at our school have been wearing masks on site for drop off and pick up for months now also.

MotherExtraordinaire · 04/01/2021 07:33

We're tier 4. School is closing but not because of government even though nearly a rate of 1k per 100k.

I'm glad.

Manteo · 04/01/2021 07:35

Maybe that's why our rates are so high! 😬

LetItGoHome · 04/01/2021 07:36

Parents have not been allowed on school property since all this started. We drop off at school gates and when we collect the teachers look out for us and send your child out when you are seen waiting. All communication with the office or teachers is email or phone.

LetItGoHome · 04/01/2021 07:38

We also have staggered start and finish times and 5 enterance are used to stop crowds.

If w Chad to drop off and pick up at the school gates there would be a big group of people at the gates so they've organised a one way system so there isn't a bottleneck of parents.
SquirtleSquad · 04/01/2021 07:38

Our tier 4 is open, planning to send mine in but on the school association Facebook there's a lot of people announcing their children won't be being sent in (no idea why they're telling people on Facebook instead of calling or emailing the school)

Eggsley · 04/01/2021 07:38

T4 here and school is open tomorrow (today is a pre-planned inset day). Our rates are around 500/100k but we are right next to an area where the rates are 800+/100k and where the govt has ordered schools to close.

HailFairy · 04/01/2021 07:39

Yes ours is open though many locally aren’t.

Rates a bit over 400/100k.

No cases at all in the school last term (definitely because I work there too). But down to luck rather than anything else imo. Mask wearing etc is now being stepped up.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 04/01/2021 07:45

No, they've called an emergency Inset day today. The last email, which was a few days ago now, said that they're still open for years 11 & 13 tomorrow. All other years will be online.

iVampire · 04/01/2021 07:50

Do you mean open on site for all, open onsite for certain groups, or completely shut?

Round here, all schools are open onsite for certain groups only (tier 4, contingency framework area)

None are closed to all pupils (unless having an inset, which DD is, and which was in the school calendar since the start of the academic year)

I assume OP means open to all students, as the majority of primary schools are currently supposed to be. Ours is, yes.
BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 04/01/2021 07:53

Inset today (planned) and back tomorrow. Head is discussing it with the staff today so I expect to be notified today of any changes.

NE town, 170 per 100k cases Tier4.

GrumblyMumblyisnotJumbly · 04/01/2021 07:54

No - T4 in SE last minute closure yesterday & rates increasing quickly locally so sensible for safety. Neighbouring primary open.

Exactly same scenario where my friend in North lives

It’s a giant mess. Journalists are hopefully on the case working out how many schools are closed/open.

If we are going into national lockdown with school closures a day or two back is pointless and dangerous.

AlwaysLatte · 04/01/2021 07:57

T4 area here - both schools closed until 18th.

LongBlobson · 04/01/2021 08:01

Closed here (Midlands) due to staff shortages.

MynephewR · 04/01/2021 08:01

Yes ours is. DD can't wait to get back in this morning. I'm so relieved she's going back but I've told her that schools might close soon to prepare her.
