Is your Tier 4 school open today?

Had a text on Friday from the head saying she is monitoring the news and will update us if anything changes. No word since then so I'm presuming school is open today. How many other Tier 4 schools are open? I'm sending DS in as I need to work outside the home but if a lockdown is announced one day at school seems a bit ridiculous.

Our rates are fairly low for Tier 4. 192 per 100k. Some local schools are shut though.

T4 in East Anglia, ours has closed and very thankful for it. I was worried as I want to do my bit to protect and support the brilliant teachers there even if the government are happy to put them in danger.

Alwaysready · 04/01/2021 08:10

DC school shut last night, my school open so far....

shamus2020 · 04/01/2021 08:10

Training day today but open tomorrow, I'm in the South east.

Wannabangbang · 04/01/2021 08:12

Kent here, last minute Uturn yesterday evening. Whole academy has chose to close but only until Thursday until they get further guidance. Im relieved tbh as wasn't going to send them anyway. Numbers per 100,000 way too high for school to be safe for anyone

SillyOldMummy · 04/01/2021 08:16

No, found out it was closing yesterday evening (although today was Inset day in any event). Local authority is supportive. So am I, even though it is a PITA!

Rates are 500+ here.

Jinglingmod · 04/01/2021 08:20

@JiltedJohnsJulie

No, they've called an emergency Inset day today. The last email, which was a few days ago now, said that they're still open for years 11 & 13 tomorrow. All other years will be online.
Are you in England? Secondaries are not supposed to have exam years in until next week - KW and vulnerable children only this week, with 11/13 potentially invited in for a test.

Inset day here in Cambs. Had an email late last night to say at this point they will open tomorrow - but the head will be in touch today with an update

Waxonwaxoff0 · 04/01/2021 08:38

Just dropped DS off and it's very much open.

I'm in tier 4 and the school I work at opens tomorrow. Well I presume so, nobody has made any contact with me to say otherwise. Ds is 16 and EHCP has just been finalised for him. He didn't have one during the last lockdown, so I'm not sure if he will now be allowed to attend school. He's already refusing to engage with any online work. I've heard nothing yet from his school.

Ceara · 04/01/2021 08:44

Tier 4, outside the contingency area. Rates 300-400 but increasing and we border a district with much higher rates and a rapidly filling hospital. School announced last night it will close tomorrow and go to online learning from Tuesday due to the number of staff who have sent in s44 letters. At least 3 other local primaries have done the same. Lots more in the neighbouring district (which has an LEA that supports closures and has suspended fines for parents, unlike ours).

PandemicPalava · 04/01/2021 08:45

Open tomorrow here as far as I know. 600 per 100,000. Dd desperately wants to see her friends but local authorities around us closing schools all over the place

Vanannabananna · 04/01/2021 08:46

Southampton. Closed to all today and the vulnerable and KW children can go from tomorrow. We applied for a place under 2 parent KW so hoping we will get one. DH is a secondary school teacher and I work in a refuge. I work 3 days a week so would only take a place for those days though. We got one last time so hopefully we will again

AethelsWhiteGoose · 04/01/2021 08:48

T4 south. 500 cases per 100k. Open, just dropped dc off.

ThornAmongstRoses · 04/01/2021 08:51

Tier 4, rates 206, and school is due to open tomorrow as it’s an inset day today.

I don’t think I will be sending my son in though.

fastwigglylines · 04/01/2021 08:56

Tier 4, SE England town here. DD's primary is closed (for all except keyworker and vulnerable children) along with more than half the 27 primaries in town.

Plus, some of those who haven't announced a closure yet have an inset today and have said they're going to decide by the end of the day.

fastwigglylines · 04/01/2021 08:56

I meant to say, we're at about 500 cases per 100,000.

Zakidoodles23 · 04/01/2021 08:57

Closed today - West Sussex. The school are going to release an update later with a plan for the rest of the week.

KeyboardWorriers · 04/01/2021 08:57

No news yet - inset day today.
However I expect it will be open - despite being close to Southampton where almost all schools are shut. Just assuming that because very few Hampshire schools have announced closures so far (although possibly that is because they have inset days too I guess..)

Sawyersfishbiscuits · 04/01/2021 08:58

Inset day today but HT has already sent a passive aggressive email about being open on Tuesday. Tbh the school would still be open if the kids all had Ebola with this HT.

SmellsLikeAHamsterCage · 04/01/2021 09:07

Yep. Over 700 cases per 1000. Ridiculous.

beakyboo10 · 04/01/2021 09:29

Tier 4 and open today with rates over 500 per 100,00. The drop off was strange and not many children around so maybe lots of people are isolating or decided not to send their children. Small primary school in Derbyshire

Ginger1982 · 04/01/2021 09:34

I'm baffled by Boris tbh. Up here in Scotland we've known for ages that all our schools are closed until 18th with e-learning from 11th. Seems ridiculous to leave it so late to make a decision.

Ceara · 04/01/2021 09:47

@keyboardworriers, the Hants school closures list on the HCC website is incomplete. At least two including DS's have closed locally (s44 absences) but are not yet on the HCC website as closed. If they've been missed off I would be surprised if they're the only ones. Also, as Hants has been very wishy washy on their position, that maybhave caused some teachers/schools to hold back/wait and see, but I am betting on a domino effect...
