Sigh.

MrsR87 · 03/01/2021 23:43

If he locks down and closes schools after many schools have been back for one day, it really would make the mind boggle. One day of being back after a two week holiday is not going to make a difference to progress in the long term but one day of kids in schools and then back in their homes could transmit the virus to thousands!!! The mind boggles!

vera99 · 03/01/2021 23:43

At a moment of genuine national crisis, must admit I'd be surprised if johnson is doing much more than routine 8 hour days. I know it's too easy to go on about his bumbling buffoonery, but I really do get the impression of him sitting in meetings with experts, half interested, still not managing to 'do detail'. To say the least, he's not a 'forensic' prime minister, but you don't even get the sense of someone 'chairing' the strategy. There's no one driving, even now, just a few panicked heaves at the wheel each time we head for the ditch.

user127819 · 03/01/2021 23:44

What will change between now and tomorrow to influence his decision? The numbers are hardly going to be any better.

Velvian · 03/01/2021 23:45

You've addressed your own point there @LoudTree "unless clinically vulnerable" - it's not an alien species, there are many 'normal' people that are clinically vulnerable (including children).

Firebird83 · 03/01/2021 23:45

So kids could potentially be going back for just one day?

TheGreatWave · 03/01/2021 23:46

He has been mummuring about a further lockdown, aka Tier 5, so he can do this, shut the schools and not have to u turn.

Noellodee · 03/01/2021 23:46

Nope, this auto-pilot is looking at the side of a lorry and seeing nothing but sky.

Purplethrow · 03/01/2021 23:47

So , I guess this means that there will be another lockdown and schools will close ; I wonder if there will be any other restrictions?

WanderingMilly · 03/01/2021 23:47

Let's hope we have a proper lockdown with all schools shut, not like the non-event in November which barely dented the figures for new cases.
We live in hope....

This is what sky are suggesting.. might not be far off.

FusionChefGeoff · 03/01/2021 23:49

Oh My God.

There's a fucking BOMB of transmission about to go off tomorrow. What the fuck is the fucking point of diving onto where the grenade used to be but is now a fucking massive shitting crater in the ground???

Too pissing late, Boris. Too fucking late.

Again.

GrumblyMumblyisnotJumbly · 03/01/2021 23:49

He's going to do exactly that @MrsR87

I think the public and school staff have effectively just done a vote of no confidence in him. He'll be bemused tonight saying but I told them schools were safe? Prick.

Calmandmeasured1 · 03/01/2021 23:49

@LoudTree

Are there any statistics we can see that show how many teachers and how many pupils have contracted Covid-19?

OP posts:
Inpersuitofhappiness · 03/01/2021 23:50

And how many people is that absolute cunt putting into harms way by letting them go back for a fucking day?

If he closes schools tomorrow, after he's put all those children and teachers into classrooms someone else needs to take over.

He is completely incapable as proven numerous times this year.

Purplethrow · 03/01/2021 23:50

He could have saved all this awful worry teachers have had about whether to send the section 44 letter in ; he’s actually been so cruel.

TuxedoPantherSheHer · 03/01/2021 23:50

Dog ate Boris’s homework again. Always late, always an excuse.

Curtainsarefab · 03/01/2021 23:51

I think he’s prevaricating because of the legal challenge from the Unions. Our email from school (they start Tuesday) says he has until 4pm tomorrow to respond.

They’ve also said our head is isolating as her family has Covid and they’ve had a load of letters from teachers saying they aren’t coming in.

It helpfully says “we’re open, send the kids, they might or might not have any teachers”

So, erm, helpful!!

MummaPI · 03/01/2021 23:51

Superb!
This is the best thing I've seen on mumsnet in ages...love it!

This is looking hugely likely. Sending loads of kids in for a few days this week and THEN calling a lockdown would just be insane.

Which is what we have come to expect from this government, really.

Theunamedcat · 03/01/2021 23:52

Ffs tomorrow is my normal shopping day its going to be bedlam with news like this I was hoping for a nice quiet hour to get all I need and get out

Beebityboo · 03/01/2021 23:52

If he does this after allowing all those people in schools to mix and put themselves in harms way for a DAY that is actually criminal levels of incompetence. Vote of no confidence type incompetence.

I meant @FusionChefGeoff comment! In my excitement I forgot to quote it
covetingthepreciousthings · 03/01/2021 23:54

Surely there's got to be an urgent public announcement tomorrow first thing!? Or is that too hopeful..

It's complete madness to let kids return tomorrow to then close them.

Sweettea1 · 03/01/2021 23:55

It was on the news he wants to wait aweek to see the data from the tier system first.
