According to Boris...he says over the next few weeks.
How much stricter can they get?! Except for school closures I mean.

The only thing I can think of is not being able to meet friends outside for a walk Sad

Cripesitsthegasman19 · 03/01/2021 11:09

Being called a murderer if you leave your house to buy an ice cream.

Honeydukesmum · 03/01/2021 11:09

Closed garden centres, hardware etc? May be no take away etc again?

covetingthepreciousthings · 03/01/2021 11:12

All non essential retail is still open in tier 3, and hair dressers, beauty salons.. so presume all counties to go to tier 4 at some point.

Granolaslice · 03/01/2021 11:15

@Honeydukesmum I thought takeaways were always open?

I hope they don’t shut playgrounds

Yes takeaways were always allowed. I can't see how they're a huge driver of infection. They would be better off limiting numbers in supermarkets (ours no longer have queues outside that I have seen , everyone just goes in) and closing other retail such as hardware shops and random shops like b&m, or making them click and collect only.

CaptainMerica · 03/01/2021 11:17

I'll be surprised if Scotland doesn't go back to the "stay within 5 miles of your home" rule at some point over the next month, if cases keep rising.

Lemonpiano · 03/01/2021 11:19

Tied 4 for everyone plus school closures is my interpretation of his comments.

nosswith · 03/01/2021 11:21

Enforcement of the existing ones with something other than a fine that is no more than for overstaying car parking would be a start.

Yes I think it’s this. Basically November lockdown plus schools closed.
Waxonwaxoff0 · 03/01/2021 11:22

Full national lockdown with schools closed like last March. That's the only option left now.

They could also stop non essential travel abroad which they should be doing now.

Honeydukesmum · 03/01/2021 11:22

My bad I can only recall we had no take out open by us for quite awhile .. was their choice rather than not allowed it seems

Honeydukesmum · 03/01/2021 11:23

I also agree minimal risk from it

finkking · 03/01/2021 11:23

I heard a rumour about this but also was confused as to how much stricter they can get.

finkking · 03/01/2021 11:24

I'm in tier 4 though

Pinkflipflop85 · 03/01/2021 11:27

The takeaways closed in the first part of lockdown. That's why there were crazy queues at mcdonalds and Costa etc when they reopened.

Hollywhiskey · 03/01/2021 11:29

I wish they would just say though. They keep saying well schools are safe but we are going to have to make lockdown stricter and it is sending my anxiety spiralling - please just say what you are going to do.

Honeydukesmum · 03/01/2021 11:29

@Pinkflipflop85 Phew I’m not only one remembering that.

BBC:

Covid: Regional rules 'probably going to get tougher', says Boris Johnson
Published20 minutes ago

Regional restrictions in England are "probably about to get tougher" to curb rising Covid infections, the prime minister has warned.

Boris Johnson told the BBC tougher measures may be required in parts of the country in the coming weeks.

He said this included the possibility of keeping schools closed, although this is not "something we want to do".

But he added ministers had to be "realistic" about the spread of the new variant of the virus.

Mr Johnson said the government was "entirely reconciled to doing what it takes to get the virus down," and warned of a "tough period ahead".

He said increasing vaccination would provide a way out of restrictions and that he hoped "tens of millions" would be vaccinated in the next three months.

Defending his handling of the pandemic, the prime minister said the government had taken "every reasonable step that we reasonably could" to prepare for winter.

But, speaking on the BBC's Andrew Marr programme, he said ministers "could not have reasonably predicted" the new, more transmissible variant of the virus that has emerged over the autumn.

He also urged parents to send their children to primary school on Monday if they are open in their area, adding he had "no doubt" schools were safe.

It comes after teaching unions and some councils have expressed concern about the planned reopening of primaries in most areas of England on Monday.

Schools closed by the end of week then...

JustVisiting9 · 03/01/2021 11:31

McDonalds etc closed, but they didn't have to - they decided to close while they put safety measures in place for the staff.

Independent takeaways stayed open, and some pubs set up takeaway services to generate income while they were closed (and/or use up the stock they had left over).

I don't think takeaways should close - there will be people who for whatever reason can't cook their own hot food. Maybe they will become delivery only though.

ThatDamnKrampus · 03/01/2021 11:31

I dont think it will be school closures (which in my opinion it ought to include). I think it will just be tier 4 everywhere, nothing more, nothing less.

Wannabewriter · 03/01/2021 11:32

@Pinkflipflop85 I’m fairly certain that ‘pure’ takeaways were always open but I could be wrong.

Itisasecret · 03/01/2021 11:32

No they didn't. We had takeaways every weekend, legally. The issue was, for some of the bigger chains. It took them longer to put covid measures in/social distancing etc. They chose to close (some) because many people interpreted the guidance that it was key workers only working. It wasn't.
Randominternetbitch · 03/01/2021 11:34

People need to be bolted in their houses, make it illegal to look out of the window or smile or have any positive thoughts or hope. Food needs to heavily rationed and consist only of homemade unleavened bread and water, flour delivered weekly by the army. Every single shop needs shut as they’re non essential. Army patrols needed on every street with orders to shoot to kill anyone who leaves their house for ANY reason. This will be the only way to bring the virus under control.

Or something like that according to the baying media and lockdown lovers. Nothing else will make them shut up and get a life I reckon Hmm

Katie517 · 03/01/2021 11:35

If you actually listen to what he said he was referring to tougher measures bring blanket school closures. Realistically this is the only other thing they have that will make a significant difference. Meeting one person for a walk or getting a takeaway is not what’s spreading this!!
