Rules getting stricter?

According to Boris...he says over the next few weeks.
How much stricter can they get?! Except for school closures I mean.

@HibernatingTill2030 You are right, but why should the rest of us have to stay indoors with no exercise getting fatter again just because people can’t obey the law? I’ve just lost the stone I put on in the first lockdown. Several smaller bursts of exercise are easier to fit in than one long yomp.

Splodgetastic · 03/01/2021 13:58

@TammyHullfigure Not is there are about ten people and no social distancing.

Wsdhgujn · 03/01/2021 13:59

For areas like ours with schools shut I assume support bubbles of all types will go...they are the only think left re human contact that meeting one friend outside for a walk.

Splodgetastic · 03/01/2021 13:59

And regardless of risk, it is against the law. Making it stricter is the only thing that can be done so everyone has the class detention rather than stopping these stupid families meeting up.

Wsdhgujn · 03/01/2021 14:00

I don’t think outside solo excessive (or with your household) will go it’s too low risk

That would be cruel and to be honest it's the one thing I would ignore if I'd previously qualified for a support bubble.

The rest of us who are following the one person rule shouldn't have to. Restricting it further just means the the piss takers continue to ignore and the rest of us don't. It achieves nothing. I think we're trying to make the same point!

We were never restricted to one hour exercise in March. That was a myth that someone was spouted as fact.

Still very low risk.

No way. Support bubbles will stay.
Splodgetastic · 03/01/2021 14:04

@HibernatingTill2030 I never said it was restricted to one hour (which isn’t enough to manage weight) but it was restricted to once a day in the first phase.

Stinkyjellycat · 03/01/2021 14:05

No sport (professional or otherwise)?
Close kids’ playgrounds?
Masjid in schools?
Cant meet up with anyone at all outdoors?
A Welsh-style approach with aisles screened off in supermarkets?

Splodgetastic · 03/01/2021 14:05

But what I don’t get is if meeting up outside etc. Is so low risk, why are the rates so high when there is literally nothing else to do?

Splodgetastic · 03/01/2021 14:06

Is it maybe unscrupulous employers?

TammyHullfigure · 03/01/2021 14:08

I don't know about you, but I know loads of people still going into the office who are not key workers. More people could definitely be working at home. Add in schools and shops and numbers will still rise I guess.
LucilleTheVampireBat · 03/01/2021 14:09

I think a March style lockdown is likely. I strongly oppose lockdowns but I do think it will happen.

Just an example of my own experience is my job. I'm office based and the fee earners go out to do their job in people's homes. So 6 fee earners go into say 3 (at least) different houses each, every day. They then come back to the office. I do not want anymore lockdowns at all, I'm desperate for this to be over. But if the scenario at my job is allowed to continue then how will we ever get out of this situation?

Sorry- misread. I actually misremembered that, just had to look it back up. It still seems crazy!

I don't fully understand it either. I think schools may be part of it. Small minority ignoring and seeing multiple people. Outbreaks (eg in factories/hospitals). All adds up. It will be interesting to see if rates come down in London/Tier 4 where schools will be shut for around a month.
Betty000 · 03/01/2021 14:14

Stopping whole families going to the supermarket would be a start, not single parent families because obviously you have no choice but two parent families there is no need at all. I came across a family of five, two adults and three teenagers last week, all wearing mask exempt badges, why the fuck were all of them in there blocking the fucking aisle, we are in tier 4 ffs.

HibernatingTill2030 · 03/01/2021 14:18

The whole families thing drives me mad- obviously not talking about the person who needs continuous support or single parent families. Im not sure that was ever enforced though. I remember queuing in March and people being there in pairs.

CountessFrog · 03/01/2021 14:25

If the main problem is children mixing at school and passing it to grandma, is there any chance of shutting down grandma visits rather than shutting down their education?

Controversial I know.

My elderly MIL neither wants the vaccine nor to follow the rules. Plenty not willing to follow the rules.

Should have been stricter on shielding in the first place IMO.

MadameBlobby · 03/01/2021 14:26

@Pinkflipflop85

The takeaways closed in the first part of lockdown. That's why there were crazy queues at mcdonalds and Costa etc when they reopened.
They didn’t have to though they chose to.

I’m not in favour of more restrictions just for the sake of it unless they can prove that whatever restriction they impose would actually impact infection numbers.

TammyHullfigure · 03/01/2021 14:31

This doesn't help in multi-generational households which I understand have been a big problem. What do you suggest then? Evict Granny?

QueenPawPaws · 03/01/2021 14:32

@CountessFrog shielding couldn't have been much stricter!
The elderly aren't all extremely vulnerable and weren't all on the shielding list. My dad is elderly with no health issues so never had to shield whereas I'm mid thirties and have been inside since March

CloseSchoolsProtecttheNHS · 03/01/2021 14:33

Oh who cares about this pointless bullshit when they're keeping the schools open.

My child's best friend is being raised by her grandparents. Should we throw her into care instead?

With schools open, employers are forcing presenteeism and grandparents are picking up the after-school childcare.
