According to Boris...he says over the next few weeks.

I live in tier 4 at the moment most shops are open for click and collect, numerous coffee shops and restaurants are doing take out, the craft beer shop is doing take out and huge groups of people (ages 30’s-50’s) are having a jolly nice time in the park in big groups with all their take out!! Very few teens to be seen anywhere.

So I would say adults should start follows the rules before insisting on school closures.

No going out, at all like there was in Spain/Italy?

Spain/Italy aren't doing that now afaik. They decided the social price was TOO HIGH, unnecessary, and shouldn't be done again. Can we at least learn from them in that respect?

Meeting someone outside or doing walks 4 miles from home isn't really how this thing is spreading. Care homes, hospitals, necessary indoors spaces, and blatent rule breaking, still matter more.

It's getting to the point where the harsher govts crack down the more some people think F&CK it & break rules anyway, I suspect.

Rules getting stricter?

@Randominternetbitch

People need to be bolted in their houses, make it illegal to look out of the window or smile or have any positive thoughts or hope. Food needs to heavily rationed and consist only of homemade unleavened bread and water, flour delivered weekly by the army. Every single shop needs shut as they’re non essential. Army patrols needed on every street with orders to shoot to kill anyone who leaves their house for ANY reason. This will be the only way to bring the virus under control.

Or something like that according to the baying media and lockdown lovers. Nothing else will make them shut up and get a life I reckon Hmm

You're describing the ultimate fantasy of some MNers here.
KittyMcKitty · 03/01/2021 14:40

^ oh and there’s no social distancing with the adults queuing for take out - it’s like a rugby scrum. Very few wearing masks.

In contrast children and staff have worn masks in school since September (school had 4 +ve cases in autumn term).

TheAlphaandtheOmega · 03/01/2021 14:52

Making sure that no children under 18 leave their houses would be a good start.

Abracadabra12345 · 03/01/2021 14:55

@Bluntness100

Why do peoooe do this? He never said that at all. I sat and watched it

He was pushed by Andrew marr on whether restrictions could possibly get tighter, and eventually he said if it got worse they may have to, he couldn’t rule it out. Marr pushed him heavily. Even asked him what type, Ie curfews etc, and Boris wouldn’t be pushed.

Every single person knows if this gets worse, which he said he isn’t expecting by they need to monitor it closely. that restrictions will need to be tightened.

He did not say that restrictions would definitely get tighter over the next few weeks. In fact he even said by spring he things we will be through the worst.

So either you didn’t watch it, or you didn’t understand it. Or you’ve just read some scaremongering media snippet snd not actually bothered to look at what was said.

I think we need to keep bumping this although personally I like the aforementioned restrictions of not being allowed to look out your window, have staggered times in the garden alongside the neighbours’, and definitely no smiling under those masks. We can see your eyes crinkle up, y’know

Early evening curfew like in France

loulouljh · 03/01/2021 15:00

Not much left to shut! And it won't work anyway.....

Would this work though? I'm just thinking aloud. So say we are under curfew from 8pm-6am. Surely the same amount of people will be going to the supermarket, but in a more condensed timeframe? Thus making it busier and more of a risk. Or is the idea that the closure time would be used to give it a good scrub? Just seems counter productive to me.

Is this a fucking joke? How would my 17 year old go to work?

Christmasfairy2020 · 03/01/2021 15:04

I really hope swimming lessons dont stop again. My youngest has just re started today and my oldest has her lesson on Thursday.

Out of interest, where are you in the country? Because it's been bloody freezing down here in the South, and nobody in their right mind would be gathering outdoors in the rain and cold.

People only want lockdown rules if it doesn't affect them, obviously I have no children under 18. Other people screaming for shops and takeaways to close probably don't use them. People screaming for 1 hour of exercise within 5 miles probably never get off their fat arses.
gannett · 03/01/2021 15:19

Leaving aside the whole issue of schools the restriction that's sorely needed and way overdue is clamping down on non-essential businesses, and companies forcing employees into offices when WFH is possible. None of this has ever been mandated and businesses have been able to use loopholes to do whatever they want, regardless of whether it puts staff and workers at risk.

I don't have much faith in this happening as the Tories are allergic to pissing off rich business donors so expect more pointless tinkering around the edges of hospitality (what little of it remains) and socialising.

Also if we can use foresight to say that rules will get stricter why can this not happen NOW rather than waiting for the numbers to get even worse?

CovidCanDoOne · 03/01/2021 15:23

@HibernatingTill2030

I’m with you. I’m in Tier 4 in the SE.
My back garden opens onto one the largest greens in my town.
Currently looking out my window I can see 3 solo dog walkers & a parent & child playing footy.
Throughout lockdown there has never been any large gatherings even during the Summer & now it’s too bloody cold !

Spiratedaway · 03/01/2021 15:24

We have been in tear 4 for 2 weeks now it is fucking brutal I am am getting depressed again where I can't take much more .... I had a break down last year and was just getting on my feet , my friends uncle has just this moment passed from it and I work full time and the school expecting me to sit with my son all day and teach him from videos they have sent wtf !!! Can it rally get any more stricter?!

BlueBaubles12 · 03/01/2021 15:29

Closing hardware stores would be a dropped bollock. If I can’t get what I need to fix a household problem what do you think I’ll do - call in a tradesperson. Surely better for me to do minor stuff myself.

I appreciate some people would be in there browsing the wallpaper but some stuff is pretty essential.

Delatron · 03/01/2021 15:29

We had takeaway last lockdown. I think we know more about the virus now and that it doesn’t last on surfaces outdoors so I think children’s playgrounds are safe.

Also outdoor exercise is very low risk and the mental health of lots of people is in the floor now. They won’t stop that and nor should they.

I think (apart from schools) all they have left now is enforcement? I think last March people were scared so did actually stay at home. The roads were empty. They are very busy now. So I guess everyone has given up on the ‘going out for essential reasons only’.

I don’t want this to turn in to a COVID police state though. So I can’t see what else they can do. Let’s hope the vaccine program helps very soon.

Bayleaf25 · 03/01/2021 15:30

@Christmasfairy2020 Tier 4 here and we’ve had a message to say that DDs outdoor sport club is cancelled (even though I thought in Tier 4 organised outdoor sport for U18s is allowed). Great shame as she really needs that for her mental health.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 03/01/2021 16:02

Has anyone mentioned closing the borders yet? And yes, I know many other countries' numbers are better or at least no worse, but if UK folk can't move around it seems foolish to let others move in

In any case there's no point at all in any restrictions which won't be enforced, and depending on area there's clearly little or no appetite for enforcing them, so a reservoir of infection always remains

KittyMcKitty · 03/01/2021 16:05

@HibernatingTill2030 I’m in the South East - it’s not that cold and it’s been sunny for days.

Splodgetastic · 03/01/2021 16:09

Curfew would be idiotic. I know there’s one in NI, but it’s idiotic. Why squeeze more people into less time? I do my walk first thing in the morning before 6 or last thing at night at about 9.
