Has anyone seen the pictures of NYE celebration s in Wuhan? Shock

I've screenshot because the only places that seem to be running this story are The Sun and the Daily Mail

OMG, how have we managed to get it so wrong while the place this virus originated from is back to normal?

'Take it on the chin', 'herd immunity', 'dont worry, I shook hands with all the covid patients', 'face masks aren't needed...just wash your hands while singing happy birthday' 'Dominic Cummings was just doing what any responsible parent would do'. etc etc....I could go on for hours. Now the latest is using the Pfizer vaccine in an off-label way. FFS Angry

Do you remember the footage from Wuhan in Jan/Feb of the police barricading people into their apartments with weapons? That's how.

ineedaholidaynow · 31/12/2020 20:55

People had tape put across their doors so the police would know if they had been out. Can’t see that going down well here (and rightly so)

AKissAndASmile · 31/12/2020 20:58

Yeah well, we've had a shit year here and 2021 is set to be at least the same, probably worse with the NHS being overwhelmed.

And anyway lots of other countries didn't do the barricading thing and they're pretty much back to normal. Just admit it, our county is run by morons

MotherForker · 31/12/2020 20:58

They literally nailed people into their homes to stop them leaving. Not somewhere I want to emulate.

Onlycakesshouldhavetiers · 31/12/2020 21:00

Worked though. (Although they actually didntvdo this, they put motion sensors on)

Mindymomo · 31/12/2020 21:01

Don’t believe it, sorry.

manukau · 31/12/2020 21:02

Other than New Zealand, where is back to normal?

I heard an Irish guy on the radio who lives in Wuhan and he said people there just follow the rules absolutely. There is no grey area to anything. It probably sucks 99% of the time but benefitted them during the pandemic. So they've earned their party, because they live in a place where they have less freedom than us.

Heyahun · 31/12/2020 21:08

Yeah they barricaded people inside their apartments with no fucking food - beat up citizens in the street ! Left children alone in houses to fend for themselves when the parents were taken to hospital...arrested people for trying to speak out about the virus...

I wouldn’t necessarily believe anything that’s coming out of China tbh - nor would I be sure those photos are even real tbh 😂

Fieldofyellowflowers · 31/12/2020 21:10

The way that wuhan has seen the new year in is a bit distasteful really. Seeing as how it was a screw up at their end that has caused so much disruption and death across the entire planet. And now they are celebrating like everything is fine while the rest of the world is on it's knees.

dementedma · 31/12/2020 21:11

Lockdown in China was brutal. All the students at my brother's school were sent home. He was the only person on the entire campus( he lives in). He wasnt allowed out of the premises, food was brought to the gates and left for him. He was temperature checked twice a day.
Much much stricter than here

Fieldofyellowflowers · 31/12/2020 21:12

That's if the pictures are real.

happystone · 31/12/2020 21:13

Our government got it wrong.anyone whith common sense would not have done what ours have.

I agree. However they did apparently report their first case of the new UK variant today ... imported by a British student. Let’s see.
PlumsAreNotTheOnlyFruit · 31/12/2020 21:15

Just like we don't have capacity in the NHS to deal with too many ill people at the same time we don't have enough police or the right systems in place to implement a police state.

I think we could do with more police and a better funded criminal justice system, but to prosecute normal crime not lock people in their houses.

happystone · 31/12/2020 21:15

I would be nailed in my house for 2 weeks If I didn’t have to put up with lockdown tiers ect.

DrizzleandDamp · 31/12/2020 21:16

I believe the pictures, we run exports and the only large shows that have gone ahead with packed people is... China.

PlumsAreNotTheOnlyFruit · 31/12/2020 21:17

@AKissAndASmile most countries like us are in a similar position

PlumsAreNotTheOnlyFruit · 31/12/2020 21:20

@happystone I don't suppose you would get to choose which bits of an authoritarian regime you would be happy with.

MagnificentDelurker · 31/12/2020 21:22

Yep we would have been back to normal as well if the government followed the numbers. Every government that has managed the crisis well has depended on 3 tools social distancing (in worst case lockdown), track, trace and isolate and border control. We needed lockdown to buy us time to get our act together but we didn’t because the policy was not suppressing the virus but managing it. I am afraid our liberties will suffer in long term never mind our health or our economy that will suffer as well.

HibernatingTill2030 · 31/12/2020 21:23

While I don't disagree that our response has been shit, I'm not sure I would swap it for the CCPs, effective though it may have been.

covetingthepreciousthings · 31/12/2020 21:24

Other than New Zealand, where is back to normal?

Some places in Australia seem back to some normality, I follow Example on Instagram and his posts give me hope that there is some normality at the end of this - he's just headlined a festival there with a massive crowd and there's sporting events with normal crowds too. Can't remember which part of Oz it is.

DesertSky · 31/12/2020 21:25

If they were so strict and the virus was eradicated from its origin - they could’ve at least closed their damn borders to stop it spreading to the whole flipping world.

Bikingbear · 31/12/2020 21:27

China started rolling out the vaccine months ago, ok it might have been those who could afford it but...

Sweettea1 · 31/12/2020 21:34

The sun and daily mail haha yes because these papers never lie and make it up as they go along do they? Probably old pictures.
