Has anyone seen the pictures of NYE celebration s in Wuhan? [shock] I've screenshot because the only places that seem to be running this story are The Sun and the Daily Mail OMG, how have we managed to get it so wrong while the place this virus originated from is back to normal?

Sorry but I think they are a disgrace to flaunt this after what they have caused the rest of the world.
It's about time all us nations demanded recompense from China for the damage, death and destruction they've brought upon us all by their secretive BS.
It proper made me so upset earlier seeing it
I've lost my livelihood down to this. I should be working tonight, one of the biggest nights in my calendar, earning a lot of money too and where am I? In bed, near in tears. DP and I are at each others throats as we never get peace from each other, DDs education is in the toilet, DS has barely seen a consultant all year for his illnesses and to top it off it looks like things financially will get worse soon

The way that wuhan has seen the new year in is a bit distasteful really. Seeing as how it was a screw up at their end that has caused so much disruption and death across the entire planet. And now they are celebrating like everything is fine while the rest of the world is on it's knees.

I agree. China should be giving the west money we've lost because of their animal 'welfare' which is non existent. It makes me boil to see this. They may have had a ' proper' lockdown but they still started this and they should be saying sorry not out partying when we can't do or go anywhere at all snd our children can't even go to school

I agree. They did not try to prevent this spreading to entire world and lied through their teeth about the severity of it at the start. There has been no reprimand.

Friend who is living and working in China at the moment posted photographs earlier of where she was. Nothing as busy as that photograph but certainly out and about, plenty of people around, not needing to wear masks all the time, etc. Have no reason to believe any of her photographs are doctored or fake in any way.

She never came across anyone locked into rooms etc. When they managed to return to China after not being allowed back for a while (they were on holiday when it locked down) they were quarantined in their apartment with cameras outside and needing to send daily stats etc but nothing more. the lockdowns were certainly far stricter than here. The fact that they couldn't just go home to their apart,ent in February to start with - they have an apartment and job there but were out of the country when it happened. They weren't allowed back and actually ended up returning to the us for a few weeks to stay with family until they could return.

This was my first thought.

My second thought was I probably don't believe the picture is real as I am pretty sceptical of anything China says these days.

Yes, does China have the new strain? I can imagine they will start the next new pandemic unless they clean up their wet markets. Why isn't the west calling them out on this? You can bet money it's still bad. Nobody seems to want to upset them.

Yep we would have been back to normal as well if the government followed the numbers. Every government that has managed the crisis well has depended on 3 tools social distancing (in worst case lockdown), track, trace and isolate and border control. We needed lockdown to buy us time to get our act together but we didn’t because the policy was not suppressing the virus but managing it. I am afraid our liberties will suffer in long term never mind our health or our economy that will suffer as well.

You say every givernment like there are loads.... New Zealand and Australia are the only ones that come to mind.... They are a completely different ball game aswell... And now they are relying on other countries for a vaccine!

Yeah I wouldn't believe a word or a picture that comes out of China. A country that has physically restrained,force-fed and jailed a journalist for telling the truth about the pandemic. What was she charged with again? Picking quarrels and provoking trouble.

Oh,and they revealed this week the cases on Wuhan are massively higher than they disclosed.

How did China have the manpower to barricade people in their homes? China is huge, the population is huge. How did they have enough authority personnel to lock them all in or indeed weld the doors shut or put sensors on the door? That would have taken bloody ages.

People in China are being sealed inside their own homes as part of desperate steps to try and contain the spread of coronavirus.

The first death from the disease outside China was confirmed today after a man died in the Philippines.

Eleven more British nationals are reportedly arriving in the UK from Wuhan later today missing the first evacuation flight on Thursday.

The second raft of evacuees from the coronavirus-stricken city is being flown into the UK via France.

Meanwhile shocking videos have been shared on social media in China showing residents being barricaded inside their own homes by groups of people using wooden boards and nails to keep their doors shut and prevent them from leaving.

I saw videos in the early days of this - it was shocking.
