Has anyone seen the pictures of NYE celebration s in Wuhan? Shock

I've screenshot because the only places that seem to be running this story are The Sun and the Daily Mail

OMG, how have we managed to get it so wrong while the place this virus originated from is back to normal?

I forgot maybe we will infect the world with our virus

MillieVanilla · 31/12/2020 22:31

Sorry I know I probably come across as a right cow in what I wrote so thank you to those who answered.

It's just felt harder on nights like tonight. I'm a self employed party planner, entertainer and DJ and had my own business. I also hired out another set up for parties and tonight would've earned me around £600 because it's new year's so you get paid a bit of danger money and for the fact I wouldn't be spending it with my family.
With the extra set up hire that would've been £400. The tips are pretty good too, last year I got about £200 in tips too.
I worked so hard to build it up, did so many freebies to get established, spent lots on the equipment and the insurance. Had got to a really great place and bang, gone. Last do I did was NYE last year so it's felt very shitty today.
I'm in bed eating pringles and drinking lemonade. I love my job. Utterly love it. But I'm very near to knowing I will have no choice but to try and sell my kit, I won't get anywhere near what it's worth due to other DJs being in the exact same position. No help from the self employed scheme due to red tape.
It's just crappy.

Plussizejumpsuit · 31/12/2020 22:32

What a surprise only the mail and sun are sharing this

happystone · 31/12/2020 22:32

I find it shocking people sticking up for our shit crazy government ffs

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 31/12/2020 22:33

People do realise that New Zealand and Australia whilst imposing stricter rules and locking down are on the middle of summer- you cannot compare.
Yes the UK government is shocking but I don’t think we are alone

Oh and as for Wuhan, fucking disgusting how they “celebrated” the new year

AKissAndASmile · 31/12/2020 22:34

You say every givernment like there are loads.... New Zealand and Australia are the only ones that come to mind.... They are a completely different ball game aswell... And now they are relying on other countries for a vaccine!

There are actually a lot of countries doing well. I don't know if it is racism or exceptionalism but in this country we only focus on white countries. So we compare ourselves to failures like the USA and Sweden.

Lots of countries have got the pandemic under control and are quietly getting back on with life.

The figures on the ground suggest Wuhan millions of people in the first wave - due to the sheer numbers of mobile numbers that disappeared and the figures collected from crematoriams. So of course they are back to normal - they let everyone at risk catch and die of the disease

GrumpyHoonMain · 31/12/2020 22:35

*lost millions

the80sweregreat · 31/12/2020 22:36

So our new mutant strain is now in China? I didn't know this.
Maybe they should have closed their borders, then? If they are so good at this virus control stuff , that we are not.
I hope it doesn't affect them as much as it has here , but it's still worrying how it's traveling around the world.

EBathory · 31/12/2020 22:37

Has anyone not considered why the people of Wuhan are celebrating tonight when Chinese New Year isn't until 12 February?

They may have had a ' proper' lockdown but they still started this and they should be saying sorry not out partying when we can't do or go anywhere at all snd our children can't even go to school

Also restricting travel from Wuhan to other Chinese cities whilst letting international flights from Wuhan go all over the globe 🙄

We will never, ever know the true numbers from China.

But East Asia generally has low mortality rates, could be any number of reasons why, including anything from preexisting immunity to COVID to something simple like low obesity rates.

We won’t know for quite some time.

Whatnext2018 · 31/12/2020 22:48

My friends in New South Wales in Oz are back to a ‘Notmal’ life..no masks, stadiums full-normal seating next to one another, again, no masks. Parties at friends houses etc etc..so strange to see

MangoFeverDream · 31/12/2020 22:48

This is silly. The UK has more media from other English-language media and also more knowledge about what’s going on in other EU countries.

Stop implying there’s some racist element to it 🙄

MangoFeverDream · 31/12/2020 22:49

Whatnext2018 · 31/12/2020 22:50

@EBathory Why? Do they normally ever celebrate on this date? It’s not something I’ve paid attention to before tbh

Read this but could be far better explained by:

Don’t be fat, don’t grow old, die early from conditions easily managed in the West, don’t put the elderly in care homes and publish dodgy statistics.

It’s not a huge deal in China but young people will still go out to drink and party

PrivateIndoorXmas · 31/12/2020 22:56

I was also going to say it looks like fake news due to Chinese New Year being in Feb. Or do they celebrate both dates?

They do still celebrate this new year too. I know someone who was doing so this evening.
AKissAndASmile · 31/12/2020 23:18

Reuters reporting. I didn't think they did fake news?

@AKissAndASmile

Yeah well, we've had a shit year here and 2021 is set to be at least the same, probably worse with the NHS being overwhelmed.

And anyway lots of other countries didn't do the barricading thing and they're pretty much back to normal. Just admit it, our county is run by morons

And our country is also full of morons not doing their bit to try and contain the virus. Morons everywhere...
Forgetmenot157 · 31/12/2020 23:27

Have you looked at the le
Ist of best countries... Aprat from Vietnam they all have ti y populations... The uk is a world travel hub unlike Vietnam and we had like had hundreds of thousands of cases spreading around befor we even recorded our first one. Iceland for example has a population 1/10th the size of London its just not comparable

Forgetmenot157 · 31/12/2020 23:27

Likely had*

AKissAndASmile · 31/12/2020 23:33

Just off the top of my head Taiwan is one of the most densely populated places in the world and they've had 7 covid19 deaths. Not 700 or 7000....7!
