Title says it all I suppose.

I still know no one who has had the virus.

Am I in a minority? Anyone else not know anyone that's had it?

I truley believe it's real. I just don't know anyone that's had it!

I didn't until last two weeks ago when my teenage niece tested positive.

viccat · 31/12/2020 16:21

I think it's unusual to not know anyone who's had it. I consider my social circle quite small (compared to most) - no school age kids etc. I still know several people who've had it and one who lost her mum and grandma. The people I know who've had it span the whole year too from someone who had it right before the first lockdown to someone who just tested positive in the past few days.

heathergem · 31/12/2020 16:22

I know about 10 people who have had it, 1 died from it.

Oblomov20 · 31/12/2020 16:23

1 person. And no one else of anyone I know. No parents of friends, no friends of friends, nothing.

UndertheCedartree · 31/12/2020 16:30

@Qwpoeriu - gosh, sounds like you've had a difficult enough year as it is! Flowers

Mistigri · 31/12/2020 16:31

Because of the way that covid spreads in clusters, its normal to either know no one or to know lots of people who've had it (especially if most of your friends and family live in one small area).

I don't know anyone at all in my area who's had it. However, my uncle died of it after contracting it in hospital, and my son and most of his friends had it at the start of the university year.

Surprisingly my daughter who lives in a big European city heavily impacted in the first wave doesn't have any close friends who've had an official covid diagnosis. But that might just be because they all had it just before the March lockdown when tests weren't available.

TheDogsMother · 31/12/2020 16:31

I didn't until this week then two (separate) friends have tested positive.

Barmyfarmy · 31/12/2020 16:31

I live rurally and only speak to/associate with people who've been as safe as we possibly can be right now- WFH, food deliveries only, no visits/parties/walks and even I know about 5-10 people who've had it! You're definitely one of the lucky ones OP, hope it stays that way for you

unfortunateevents · 31/12/2020 16:32

Until October I barely knew anyone who had it either (anecdotally heard of friends of friends, etc). Since then, people who I know or know of who have been ill include:
My son (one week into uni)
DH's boss who is on maternity leave, both she and her husband had it and he was hospitalised
Entire family of neighbours just before Christmas
Several people whom I know through work - not employees but investors, etc - also their spouses
Four teaching staff at my best friend's school are currently ill - one who is quite unwell
My SIL and her son (15) both have symptoms today and are off to be tested

Figgyboa · 31/12/2020 16:33

I don't know anyone either....and apparently I live in a place where cases are high Confused

GameSetMatch · 31/12/2020 16:37

It totally depends where you live, I’m in the Northwest and know lots of people who have had it, also lots of cases at school, my brother lives in the middle of nowhere in a little hamlet he knows nobody that’s has it and doesn’t know what all the fuss is about,

CatrinVennastin · 31/12/2020 16:40

My friend has had her dad and gran die of covid. They live in Romford.

Lots of confirmed cases in my DD’s school.

Elderly neighbour died of covid in March.

I am in London.

MsTSwift · 31/12/2020 16:42

Loads. About 20. And we were tier 2 until yesterday so not a high risk area. I know people who caught it at socially distanced outdoor drinks !

criticalmars · 31/12/2020 16:42

I don't know anyone who has had it and I'm in London. I don't know many key workers though, and I've had limited social contact with most people except family, as I only used to know them through hobbies which I've been unable to do this year. I know two people who have been tested and it turned out to be negative.

LazyName · 31/12/2020 16:42

I knew no one with it but now lots of people I know have/had it including myself! I think it will reach most people one way or another eventually at this rate.

Poppingnostopping · 31/12/2020 16:48

I find it a tiny bit odd you haven't heard of literally anyone, not a friend of a friend, a colleague, no-one just because although I live rurally and although rates were very low here til recently, I still know lots of people through friends living in different Tiers and in other countries, my friends in eastern europe, a couple have had it, friends in the middle east, relatives of people in London and so on. Even the local schools have had the odd case, again very low and rural but one or two since Sept. I'd be very surprised if you don't hear of one soon.

CKBJ · 31/12/2020 16:49

I didn’t until after October half term now know at least 20.

bibblebobbleblackbobble · 31/12/2020 16:51

I don't know anyone who has knowingly had it. Live in a town with a hospital (so not terribly rural, but not the heaving metropolis either). I know several NHS workers, teachers etc. Lots of NHS family (siblings etc.). Children in two schools. One secondary school had a case in a different year, but no one we know. I don't doubt the existence and prevalence of it. Just it hasn't touched my social circle yet. I don't think that's uncommon actually. I expect once it breaks through into my social network it will run through and I will know an increasing number of people who have caught it. Case are low here, but higher elsewhere in the county, so tier 4.

GrapeLipBalm · 31/12/2020 16:51

Would be interesting to know what region people are in who hardly know anyone

Lockdownshmockdown · 31/12/2020 16:54

I work in a school. I do not know a single person with the virus.

Hailtomyteeth · 31/12/2020 16:55

I had it.

bibblebobbleblackbobble · 31/12/2020 16:56

@GrapeLipBalm South West England.

RaininSummer · 31/12/2020 16:56

I am in the southwest on the Devon, Cornwall border for the person who wondered where people are based who don't know anyone who has had Covid.

Fortherosesjoni70 · 31/12/2020 16:56

Really? I know plenty.

Qwpoeriu · 31/12/2020 16:56

Well I don't know anyone in another country! And all my friends are local. Family spread around the country but they haven't mentioned anything.

If it's really spreading as quickly as its being seen to then I'm sure it won't be long.

I'm also not on social media, so maybe that rules out finding things out too. (except Mumsnet if it's classed as social media)
