Title says it all I suppose.

I still know no one who has had the virus.

Am I in a minority? Anyone else not know anyone that's had it?

I truley believe it's real. I just don't know anyone that's had it!

@DuckingMel

I also know of nobody and I work in a school. Covid, to me, feels almost like a mythical beast of sorts. It's out there, for sure, but can't be seen (by me)...
And this is why it's scandalous that children, like my son, with six self isolations and 40 missed days at school since Sept are expected to sit the same exams as those in schools/areas whose education remains un disrupted.
Aozora13 · 01/01/2021 09:38

I think it really depends where you are. My household of 4 all had it in March, along with 5 of my colleagues, my aunt & uncle and their 2 kids, various friends/acquaintances ranging from “only found out through antibody test” to hospitalisation; my neighbour just yelled “go away we have covid” at someone knocking on their door and another acquaintance posted that their disabled sibling is currently in ICU. All in London.

By contrast my DPs in the SW don’t know anyone locally who has had it.

FeedMeSantiago · 01/01/2021 09:47

I know 8 people who have had the virus:

  • 2 died (aged 85 and 55yr old HCP)
  • 1 currently very ill in hospital (75)
  • 1 admitted to ICU but survived (50s)
  • 1 recovered but struggling with long Covid (late 30s)
  • 3 recovered normally (30s and 40s)
TroysMammy · 01/01/2021 17:08

I work in a GP surgery so yes I know of plenty of people who have and have had it. Some have been in ITU they were so ill.

wonderstuff · 01/01/2021 17:18

I think it can vary quite a bit in a small area, my daughter's secondary has only had one case since September (in T4 but quite rural) my school 30 miles away has had 6 or 7 children and a few members of staff with covid this year.
When we returned we had 8% of students who'd experienced a loss of a family member.
I think that part of the worry in the UK is that fairly small numbers have huge implications, 68 million population and 20 000 people in hospital are pushing them to the limits, that's 0.0003% of the population.
I think after all this we as a country should significantly increase hospital capacity, this virus could have been much worse and the fact we have to cancel some routine treatment every winter due to flu is crazy.

I've had it, so did DH and DC. I caught it off a friend in October (her family of 4 had it too). Then my DB got it (not from me) and a friend's boyfriend has it now. My good friend and her DH had it over Xmas too. Met someone in my village who'd also had it in October and she said there's some cases in the village now (we moved her after we had it). Also my DH ex-colleague had it.

AllWashedOut · 01/01/2021 21:01

wonderstuff, your school must be counting wrong. Or your school is very small and very unlucky. The current estimate of UK death rate is running at 0.5%.

whereisthejoy · 01/01/2021 21:02

Oh my ex-boss' son had it (plus his 6 housemates) as have about 5-6 of my new colleagues (they are north west)

Excited101 · 01/01/2021 21:08

Crikey! I know quite a few now who have/have had it. One friend of a friend died from it.

phlebasconsidered · 01/01/2021 21:11

@AllWashedOut not necessarily. In a small school to have 8% experience a loss of some kind sounds about right to me. Even in a larger school that's just nans or grandads, cousins or aunties. 8 out of 100 kids experience loss is about on a par with my own experience as teacher this pandemic. So far. And that was before we were tier 4.

JanBanjoVi · 01/01/2021 21:11

I know two people in my family.
I know of a number of others.

KitKat1985 · 01/01/2021 21:12

I work as a nurse and I know about 20 colleagues who have had it, plus lots of others beside. And I lost track of the numbers of patients I know who had covid a long time ago.

MrsTravers · 01/01/2021 21:18

I only know of one or two, op. The dad of one of my children's classmates (they were fine, so no impact on their bubble). And a suspected friend with long COVID although no test done as it wasn't an option at the time.

And I think that's it.

Fair to say I know I am lucky - DH and I both WFH but 4 DC in 2 different schools. We live in tier 4. Family miles away so only saw them twice last year. It's a pretty law abiding tier though and we have done very little since last March, although I do need to shop quite frequently as the more I buy, the more aforementioned DC eat.....

OutOntheTilez · 01/01/2021 21:18

For the first several months, I didn't know anyone who had it and I thought that was weird. But then, starting last July:

  • My husband.
  • One of my coworkers and her husband (husband recovered at home; she was on a ventilator).
  • My brother, his wife and two children.
  • My BIL's uncle died from it.
NeurologicallySpeaking · 01/01/2021 21:19

I know loads. Up to now was confined to people in the school I work in but is starting to progress beyond that sadly.

PufferFishGoneWrong · 01/01/2021 21:25

No one I know direct either.

A couple of indirect ones, who never had testing just possibly had it earlier when this shit show started.

thismeansnothing · 01/01/2021 21:33

I'm in a T4 area after being in tier three for aaaaaages. I haven't come across anyone who's had the virus. No cases as DDs school, no cases at her dance school or cubs. I work in a supermarket and no one there has had it. No one at DHs workplace has had it.

It's obviously out there, I'm not a covid denier but don't know anyone who has
