Title says it all I suppose.

I still know no one who has had the virus.

Am I in a minority? Anyone else not know anyone that's had it?

I truley believe it's real. I just don't know anyone that's had it!

My aunt and dad have it, my mum is waiting for results from her test.
My friends son also had it over Christmas too, he was quite poorly and primary school aged.

TheVanguardSix · 31/12/2020 15:55

I'm a sardine of London. I really knew nobody who had it. In the first wave, my neighbour's best friend's husband died from covid (they were in Devon). But I didn't know that person. Just before school shut for Christmas, there was one confirmed case in year 4. Amazingly, our school didn't shut nor did anyone have to isolate until a couple of days before the break-up.

DH went into work on the 23rd to see patients face to face. He's now in bed, the illest I've ever seen him and I am frightened for him. And I really, really, really, really have learned firsthand, in a matter of days, how much I do not want covid. It's horrible. It's not a flu. It's just awful.
So... now I know someone with covid. Confused

Didiplanthis · 31/12/2020 15:55

I'm pretty rural. Until 2 weeks ago only I knew of 2 - none directly. Now I know 16 people who currently have it !

dottiedaisee · 31/12/2020 15:55

I have it along with approximately 20 colleagues,16 residents and quite a few friends who live in our area!! In south east but not London!!

Jenasaurus · 31/12/2020 15:56

I work for an ambulance trust so know quite a few

In April, 51 year old colleague caught it and sadly died on his birthday in May no other health conditions and used to run for charity etc, you may have read about him as he was in a lot of the papers and the hospital he worked at used to mention him on the Thursday Clapping

In March - My DDs 21 year old friend from her uni course (also worked in a nursery) sadly caught it and it affected her kidneys and she died.

More recently my DDs Bfs, Manger, wife and DD have all caught it (Christmas day they got their results)

There are others but I was aware of lots in March (first wave) and equally the same now too.

FoxinaScarf · 31/12/2020 15:56

Do you work from home OP? I work in a school and know many many people who have had it.

MushMonster · 31/12/2020 15:58

Yes for me. 3. All at work.

AaronPurr · 31/12/2020 15:58

@Qwpoeriu

We are rural. Its like a different world. We still live under the restrictions but the cases are low.
Unfortunately with the new variant, christmas mixing and schools going back it might be in a few weeks you know a few people who have had it.
theseriousmoonlight · 31/12/2020 15:58

I and DP know loads. But that might be because we're NW and our jobs (doctor and teacher) A colleague of mine died early in the first wave and we almost lost one of my pupils recently (he's recovering now). Around 20-30 other colleagues of mine have tested positively but thankfully no more fatalities. Similar numbers for DP work colleagues.

My BIL and his family have just had it too (in bucks). My cousin in London. And 3 of my close friends (all NW).

DinosaurDildo · 31/12/2020 15:59

Yes I do. West Mids. I know of one woman currently on CPAP (she’s 35) and another man currently on a ventilator (he’s 33 and it’s not looking good).

Know plenty who have had it with mild symptoms too. You’re rural it’s a different world.

FoxinaScarf · 31/12/2020 15:59

My child's teacher had it, and there is currently 3 other teachers with it now.

Poor teachers. Most likely infected by an symptomatic child in their class. I am a TA and very frightened about next term.

WreckTangled · 31/12/2020 15:59

I still don't either and I work in the NHS, have dc at school and am in the south east. I think of ourselves as all very lucky.

Qwpoeriu · 31/12/2020 15:59

Gosh, I am so sorry for all of your loses. Its very sad. Thanks for commenting though. I didn't think anyone would. It's been enlightening to hear all your stories.
I agree. I don't want covid. I don't want anyone to have it. I wish I had a magic wand. This time last year I was planning my 'year of fun' as I felt I had slacked off with life a bit and wasn't making the most of things. Oh dear!

Like you, up until a few weeks ago I didn't know anyone personally who had had it (friends of friends of friends had...)
Since then it went like wildfire through my school at the end of last term, with many staff being really poorly with it and lots of children and their families getting it too.
Also, my father in law (who was in hospital for something else) managed to catch it in hospital and died two days ago...

Be glad that you don't know anyone who has had it yet...

GreatSoprendo · 31/12/2020 16:00

You probably do know someone who has had it.

I had it a couple of months ago and although my close friends and family knew I didn’t go around announcing it to my less close acquaintances, mums I know from the school gate, neighbours etc. Lots of people I know probably have no idea I had it.

notangelinajolie · 31/12/2020 16:01

I don't know anyone personally.
I'm have heard of 'friends of friends' having it but no - not me, my family or anyone I know personally.
I am currently self isolating because the app pinged me after a shop at Tesco but so far so good - no symptoms. Just one more day to go on that.
I had Corona symptoms earlier this year but I will never know if I had it or not because they weren't testing.

Sobeyondthehills · 31/12/2020 16:01

I don't know anyone who has had it, but I think we are just really fucking lucky.

For the record, I have family and friends who work on the frontline NHS, paramedics, teachers, I have a son in school, my partner was working in retail before he lost his job, hopefully will be starting a new one in the new year.

TBH its only going to be a matter of time now

HeddaGarbled · 31/12/2020 16:02

I don’t know anyone or of anyone who has had it either. In the Spring there were no cases at all in my parish. This last fortnight there’s been 3 but I don’t know who. But I have friends and family all over the country and abroad and none of them has had it either. Just chance, I suppose.

Qwpoeriu · 31/12/2020 16:02

@AaronPurr. Yes you're right. Only time will tell.
We have moved house 4 times this year too! Albeit 3 in the same area but you would think I would know someone.

OP posts:
the80sweregreat · 31/12/2020 16:02

I've known too many , including someone who was a ' covid denier' and has been in hospital a week now.
I know three that have sadly died ( my dad was 98 in a care home and has covid on his death cert ) the other two were 57 and 71. They had underlying health issues.
At least ten at school have had it mildly and friends in-laws tested positive today. A friend of mine was very poorly back in March and had an antibody test done privately which was positive.
It's rife where I live in tier four.
My son had it in March too , but they were not testing then. He was quite breathless for a while.
Too many people :(

UndertheCedartree · 31/12/2020 16:03

I'm really suprised by that but I guess your area has had low numbers? Myself and my DS have had it, 8 friends, my DD's teacher plus lots and lots of other DC and teachers at her school. A family friend has died from it Sad

Haggertyjane · 31/12/2020 16:03

Loads of people plus one of my sisters in law died from it.

AaronPurr · 31/12/2020 16:03

We have moved house 4 times this year too!

Goodness me that's a lot of upheaval.

Qwpoeriu · 31/12/2020 16:06

@AaronPurr

We have moved house 4 times this year too!

Goodness me that's a lot of upheaval.

It's been a long traumatic year! We had a house fire and lost everything during the first lock down. We are all settled and happy now though. Smile

You're very lucky. We know loads plus my whole family had it 2 weeks ago (London).
