@Happymum12345

Maybe it's because they're exempt!!
You're able to wear one, well good for you!
But not everyone can!
And you know what?
They don't have to!
Because they're exempt!

Tootletum · 31/12/2020 16:42

Load of bullshit propaganda.

I completely agree that people shouldn't have to wear masks if they are genuinely exempt. And that it's nobody else business.
But I maintain that the exemption system has been abused by a small minority who found a loophole lanyard on amazon.

Is that the fault of the genuinely exempt? Absolutely not. Sadly, they are the ones getting abuse in public for it and being asked to justify themselves.

SpnBaby1967 · 31/12/2020 16:47

@Happymum12345

There are so many people still not wearing masks. I don’t care what their mental health reasons are any more. Stay at home if you don’t want to wear a mask. I say that as some who has spent time on a ventilator, watching people die around me. I have mental health problems now, but still wear a mask.
Nice to see a bit of friendly disability discrimination going on here!

Those mental health reasons why someone doesnt wear a mask could be because her abuser covered her nose and mouth whilst he violently raped her and she spent that time struggling for breath thinking he was about to kill her ,and now her PTSD is such that she cant bare to have anything covering her face.

But please, continue being a selfish arsehole to fit with your idea of how other people should cope.

MrsMomoa · 31/12/2020 16:52

@HibernatingTill2030

You're completely right of course.
But I just don't think it's right that everyone not wearing a mask is immediately branded a selfish 'blood on their hands' granny-killing twat!

Just for the record, I am exempt and I do wear a mask.
But I work every day with people who are mask exempt and they are far from selfish.

HibernatingTill2030 · 31/12/2020 16:54

I agree with you. I think it's very sad that a small minority of people can claim exemption and then walk around smugly ignoring the guidelines thinking how clever they are... and of course the people who genuinely can't wear a mask are the ones who get the abuse about it.
(and daily reminder to anyone reading that not all exemptions are visible)

I was in Tesco earlier. Loads of teens/20's buying up alcohol and party stuff (balloons etc). I'm sure they will all be at home with their parents.

People who are already obeying the rules will continue to, whilst those that don't care will continue to flout them.

I can understand why young people would be unwilling to give up their lives for a year when they themselves aren't at risk. I can also understand why a Doctor whose work life is made terrible by the virus would want to limit spread.

MistletoeandGin · 31/12/2020 17:04

Never known 20 something year olds to have balloons at house partied Grin

HibernatingTill2030 · 31/12/2020 17:09

early 20s people could easily be in house shares with 2 or 3+ housemates (0r even 2 or 3 couples so anything from 4-8 people) living there.

And agree re the balloons.

ThelmaNotLouise · 31/12/2020 17:25

LittleSpyintheSky I can't begin to imagine the hell you went through and I hope you're on your way back to full recovery now. Flowers I think you're right when you say the doctor wasn't talking about everyone who's caught Covid having blood on their hands – he's talking about the people who blatantly disregard the rules and refuse to follow them, the people who said 'sod it, no one's telling me who I can have round my house for Christmas' and invited their entire 20-strong family, or the two-parent families taking their mask-less kids to the supermarket to buy a few things in a basket as something to do/get them out of the house, which I posted about earlier this week. People just either don't care or aren't thinking about the consequences of their actions.

Thank you Flowers. Yes, that’s exactly what I believe he means.
ThelmaNotLouise · 31/12/2020 17:32

Breaking news: 55,892 new cases today and 964 deaths. But let's ignore what the doctor says, eh. Hmm

happystone · 31/12/2020 17:41

Yes let’s keep schools own children don’t spread it ffs “I’m alright jack

happystone · 31/12/2020 17:41

Own open

LittlePearl · 31/12/2020 17:43

FFS, he's not pointing the finger at people who have genuine reasons for not wearing masks. He's asking people to do everything they can to prevent spread and wake up to the consequences if they don't. It's really not that hard to understand.

Yes, he's emotional and probably exhausted, and yes, he might have chosen his words more carefully; but calling him a knob and dismissing his heartfelt pleas is childish and ignorant.

happystone · 31/12/2020 17:43

What do you think the balloons are filled with? You don’t really think air Grin

Guylan · 31/12/2020 17:44
@DownWhichOfLate what do you think should happen to the kids of none key worker parents? Not being goady, genuine question
@LST, Independent Sage spoke about this this week. See at 1hr 4 mins. They say fundamental financial package should be provided to all who have to isolate, including parents. Govt not done this but have wasted billions giving contracts to private companies who have provided inadequate services.

Visors don’t work.
