I'm fucking sick of the way this whole thing is turning people into nosey, curtain twitching, Covid police.

In supermarket today, with my shop I bought various 'party supplies'. Paper plates, napkins, party foods, plastic cups, poppers etc...

Got a few dirty looks, whatever. But a woman actually tutted and said she hopes I'm not having a NYE party with a look of disgust.

No. It's for my kids. Who have had a fucking shit year. I'm going to throw them a party in our home. I'm going to do a buffet with party food and paper plates and poppers and have a fucking disco and make the best of our NYE because they've been so low recently.

I didn't explain myself, just asked her to respectfully mind her own. But I'm sick of everyone watching what everyone else is doing. It's horrible. I hate what this is doing to people.

Do you have any left over Christmas crackers? They will have hats inside :)

Nikhedonia · 31/12/2020 00:42

What's essential?

Economy porridge oats, only. You can add water from your tap. Anything more than that is frankly ostentatious.

TheLeastBit · 31/12/2020 00:43

@Choirbells

And the fact that youv just told people to ** off is fine is it? So rude and disgusting.
If you think it's fine to police what other people buy in the supermarket and assume their situation with no actual knowledge of it, then yes I think it's fine to anonymously tell them to fuck off on an internet forum.

I didn't shout it in her face.

No sorry. She could only use her crackers on Christmas Day.
Wheresmykimchi · 31/12/2020 00:44

@TheLeastBit

What's essential?

Agree. How do you determine it for everyone?

Is it literally just what it takes for you not to die from thirst and starvation? In that case I hope everyone is just buying bread and drinking tap water. No bars of chocolate or bottles of wine or any of that non essential stuff.

I mean to me, my kids mental health is pretty important and if I can help it slightly by popping a few 'non essential' items into my trolley whilst in the same shop buying our food, that's pretty essential to me Smile

Bread's a luxury. In I'm a Celeb they only eat rice and beans.

@User158340 Its people judging others by their own previous standards. Plenty of pissheads in a local fb group were referring to sedate family Christmas dinners as parties. The people being judgey would have been the first to arrive and last to leave a NYE party in non Covid times.
Ive never been to a NYE party. Ive actually never been drunk And ive only ever been to a Christmas party twice in my life.

That doesnt stop the Government and SAGE treating us like we are all drunks who are into Strictly and football though.

InsufferableLKIA · 31/12/2020 00:49

I don’t care that the threads moved on, “That must be Nigel with the Brie” will now become “that must be Gavin with the poppers” Grin

Wheresmykimchi · 31/12/2020 00:52

Feck sorry @TheLeastBit!! I'm not doing well tonight. I obviously meant @Thewiseoneincognito.

I'll phrase it again.

the wise one, interesting as your points are, what do you deem essential?

Wheresmykimchi · 31/12/2020 00:53

@SideboardOfDoom, no she isn't. I meant to tag PP and tagged OP.

OP is talking more sense than most on the thread.

She bought some bloody paper plates and party poppers with her food shop! what is the issue?

TheLeastBit · 31/12/2020 00:53

@Wheresmykimchi is it all that non essential prosecco? Wink

Guilty as charged.

I mean, I'm spending Christmas and new year on my own, post break up with a grandparent with Covid I can't see and hundreds of miles from anyone I know but I did venture into the prosecco aisle. Assuming that was OK since it's OK for me to venture back into work next week...

ArtieFufkinPolymerRecords · 31/12/2020 00:57

@Mooballs

If perceived bad looks are all you have to worry about you are really very fortunate OP. So from one who has been directly and seriously affected by covid FUCK OFF right back at you.
So if you have been affected, you have the right to tell whoever you want to fuck off, for no reason do you?
Mulhollandmagoo · 31/12/2020 01:05

@wheresmykimchi I'd say that definitely classes as essential prosecco in that case Wink

Meh, some folk are just inclined to naturally being wankers. DS works front of house in a takeaway, screen up, PPE worn, lots of hand san offered free of charge to customers plus masks sold at like 20p. One lovely lady went in and had a bit of a dramatic meltdown due to their being 'other customers also waiting, and did no one know it was a pandemic?!'. She was offered the option to wait outside/in her car and her food would be brought out (declined as it was raining), offered a free mask (declined as she stated she's exempt), and then continued to huff and puff till she collected her order and left. I think she was mostly fucked off that the other customers weren't informed they had to stand outside in the rain until she left?! 🤔🤣 Moral of the story? Some people are just arseholes.

Willow2017 · 31/12/2020 01:08

@Thewiseoneincognito

In all fairness OP you are doing non essential shopping. Everyone’s had a shit year, if we all had your attitude and went buying throwaway crap for a party we’d have problems. Your kids just had Christmas isn’t that enough? Or are you using this as a thread to moan about those rightfully judging you for being a bit pathetic? 🙄
I work in a supermarket. The ambient section is at the front so op would have to walk past the party stuff before she got to the food section. I hardly think putting stuff in her trolley in passing is any more dangerous than picking up a bottle of milk or a loaf of bread from the other end of the shop. Who the hell are you to decide what's essential or not in someone elses life? The number of sanctimonious people on here lately is astounding. Just concentrate on what you do and keep your opinions on what others buy to yourself. All this worrying policing people about unecessary purchases and trying to run thier lives isnt good for your health.
UrAWizHarry · 31/12/2020 01:11

There are people who are clearly fucking loving being able to being self-righteous wankers about the whole thing. These people existed way before COVID, unfortunately, they just now think they have a degree of legitimacy to be dickheads.

Wheresmykimchi · 31/12/2020 01:14

Would it have been OK to order these things off the internet I wonder?

Oh FFS, we had all this ridiculous shit months ago about what is essential shopping. Some people would probably like us to be rationed and only have the most basic food, who's to say what anyone else considers essential - did you just have a bit of bread and cheese at Christmas, because obviously chocolate, biscuits, alcohol etc are not essential.

Also, I don't think you understand the meaning of the word pathetic.

Wheresmykimchi · 31/12/2020 01:17

Cheese is not essential , Artie. Grin
