How long can they expect us to live like this for?

Can someone please give me some positivity or any ideas of when we can regain some normality?

Mental health, domestic abuse and suicidal rates are all rising more than ever, children losing out education, people losing jobs, economy crashing ...the collateral damage is far worse.

We have a 1 in a million chance of dying from Covid yet we are living like this, a virus with a survival rate over 99% and were living like this.

Not saying we shouldn't take precautions, such as distancing, washing hands, window visits for elderly and vulnerable etc..but for us to live like this for something that has such a small chance at killing us, is just stupid beyond words.

Is there any chance all this can stop by April? Lighter restrictions? My mental health is suffering and I honestly cant take this anymore

Ok, so it’s not ‘news’ that people are pissed off with tiers and restrictions etc.. I’ve lost count of the number of threads repeating the same things over and over.... ranting on MN Is not going to change anything so I really don’t get why M Netters are getting get het up-with each other! In this shitty situation we all just have to do the best we can we what we have, with what we can control. No one has all the answers, we can speculate and we can all be armchair critics, but it’s not worth arguing with faceless entities about

@Tootsey11

I think those of you moaning that you can't cope really need to put things into perspective. Out of a lifetime this will be a short period of time. Yes, it's shit. I wonder how many of you are healthy, because more than going to restaurants or the cinema, or going to a pub or on holiday, I would give anything just to have my health. I don't give a monkeys about any of those things. I developed 2 new chronic conditions this year, I'm in pain 24/7. There is no cure, I will die with these. These new ones are on top of the other 9 I have. I read on here daily about people whinging that they can't do this and that, do any of you think about people who are worse of.
I am sorry for you and others who do not have good health , and yes of course there are always others who are worse off , but at the same time i think it is unfair to criticise anyone who is finding the situation we are in difficult for whatever reason . Hopefully when we look back it will have have been a short period of time but while we live through it , it is hard , worrying , stressful etc and people who before perhaps didn't have much to worry about have just as much right to moan . So far we haven't had much in leadership to give us confidence , its very worrying for all .

@Tara336
Yes, don’t stop pushing until a doctor checks her over.
I’ve had no issues booking both telephone and video appointments with my GP where I live.

My DD and I have also had Physiotheraphy video call appointments which were surprisingly very effective. My next appt is face-to-face at the hospital.

Some hospitals are still seeing patients face-to-face for some issues, but obviously not all hospitals/departments.

We’ve also taken one of our young DC to two face-to-face hospital appointments including an overdue MRI since September.

I hope she feels better soon.

Xerochrysum · 01/01/2021 12:59

All more reason to totally agree with Foreveraintenough. Op has now descended into unfounded, quite sickening personal attack on the poster, I was so shocked to read her post, wish MNHQ could leave it stand so everyone can see what kind of poster OP is.

‘I dont have diabetes or underlying health conditions and neither does any of my family so let's just put us all under the same rule despite they're being little chance to cause death to any of us.’

The OP is clearly selfish and only cares about themselves and their little family. Sod anybody else who also dares to share the same spaces that they inhabit. Poor attitudes such as this highlights why the UK is still in a mess right now. Narcissism. SMH.

Happy New Year everyone, but this shit is going to get a whole lot worse before it gets any better (Covid & Brexit). We need a Government coup. How may people would be prepared to get involved in that?
Okay then, just keep on struggling and/or moaning.

Tara336 · 01/01/2021 13:47

@Wheresyourclapham thank you, I will be pushing her again on Monday to make an appointment, other family members have commented on the blue tinge to her lips its apparently very noticeable. DM only went for the COVID test because I told her I was worried and it will make me feel better 8f she did so hopefully the same tactic will work again. She knows something isn't right herself but I think is avoiding being told there's an issue..

Tootsey11 · 01/01/2021 13:48

@Tara336 she may well still have covid, was the test done early enough? Maybe false negative.

Keep trying, I hope she gets the help she clearly needs.

PandemicAtTheDisco · 01/01/2021 14:13

There is a lot of misinformation and pure lies intermingled with the known facts and beliefs being spread on this thread.

I'm not going to waste my time on informing people as I can't stop people believing rubbish. People have to decide for themselves who to believe.

Most people don't seem to have common sense. It's likely their stupidity will make them more likely to catch and pass on the virus. Maybe the figures should include covid deniers, the antimaskers and other idiots.

gypsywater · 01/01/2021 14:15

What did the deleted post say?

southeastdweller · 01/01/2021 14:23

OP makes many valid points, but I didn’t read her deleted post. I think it’s healthy to critically think about all this.

Wheresyourclapham · 01/01/2021 14:32

Oh yeah, I forgot to ask - someone pls share Op’s deleted post 😄

bumbleymummy · 01/01/2021 14:42

@TitInATrance

Who is this hypothetical person who has a one in a million chance of dying? We’ve lost 73512 so far. Without getting a calculator out, I’d say that’s around one in 900. Another very divisive post, and this ‘them and us’ view is in itself toxic to mental health.

Domestic abuse is not the fault of COVID. Domestic abuse is the fault of the perpetrator.

On the bright side, NY FB tells me several friends who previously worked in hospitality have found jobs elsewhere in the last few weeks. Relatives have completed their degrees this year, won promotions. Friends and neighbours have become closer now our social circles have shrunk. I know lots of teachers but not children because I’m older, but I guess this is the same for teenagers.

Resilience is key. Nobody is saying that children can never make up their education, this is just a pause.

You’re looking at the case fatality rate, not the infection fatality rate. Most people have mild/asymptomatic disease.

‘OP makes many valid points, but I didn’t read her deleted post. I think it’s healthy to critically think about all this.’

I agree that the OP also made some very valid points that I agree with re. the effect of lockdown on people’s MH and the disastrous effect on the economy, but they then highlighted exactly why the UK is still not able to get this Covid under control like some other countries have. We’re an island FFS. Why the hell are the imbeciles in charge still continuing to allow people to travel in and out of the country!???

Wheresyourclapham · 01/01/2021 14:49

*...but they then highlighted exactly why the UK is still not able to get this Covid under control like some other countries have.

They highlighted this by banging on with their self-absorbed ‘what about me and my family. We don’t have any underlying conditions. Why do we have to stay in!?’

Erm, let me see...Duh! 🙄

HancocksSexTears · 01/01/2021 14:54

It's not ending at Easter, can people stop being so bloody stupid, even if the vaccines are rolling my Easter, we will only have the vulnerable vaccinated. At this rate we'll have to start dose 2 around that time, the rest of us will be waiting forever.

It'll be stop start for all 2021, the virus isn't being eradicated or stopped.

bumbleymummy · 01/01/2021 14:59

@HancocksSexTears The goss as l isn’t to eradicate or stop the virus. It’s to take the pressure off the nhs. This should be achieved by around Easter by vaccinating the more vulnerable. I think you’re being unrealistic if you think the virus is going to disappear and we’re all supposed to wait around for that to happen.

bumbleymummy · 01/01/2021 14:59

The goal isn’t*

I don't think that at all, I want freedom sooner!

Dee1975 · 01/01/2021 15:08

When you say ‘they’ who are you referring to? The government? You do know that they arnt doing this for fun don’t you? It’s because of a virus. And as long as the virus is taking up hospital beds in crazy numbers we should have restrictions. How would you feel if you or someone you know had a heart attack but couldn’t get a bed in hospital? Or if the ambulance took ages to come? Would you be blaming ‘they’ in that instance?
The reason why ‘they’ have put in restrictions is so the nhs can continue to function. And reason why it can’t right now very well is because there is a virus out there. Yes it has a low deaths rate - but we only have so many nhs beds and just because you don’t die of it, doesn't mean you won’t end up in hospital. And right now, because of the virus (not ‘they’) we have to help stop the spread. It’s called being socially responsible. Care about others and help not spread the virus.

Foreveraintenough · 01/01/2021 16:49

@WithLotsOfSprinkles0 and I see your true colours shining through. I see your true colours.... and they are very illuminating!

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 01/01/2021 17:19

I do t think the most vulnerable will have been vaccinated by Easter...

Confusedcabbage · 01/01/2021 17:23

"it has such a low risk of killing me". Bit self absorbed there OP, just because it's got a low risk of killing YOU doesn't mean you wouldn't spread it and kill lots of people at higher risk. Happy to kill people for a better social life?

Ridcully82 · 01/01/2021 17:26

@GoldenOmber

How long are healthy people expected to live a vastly reduced life to protect those who are vulnerable?

But we’re not doing this just to protect those who are vulnerable. We’re doing this because if we don’t, people with covid will fill up all the hospitals, and then even us healthy types won’t be able to get treatment for other things.

Exactly!
Wheresyourclapham · 01/01/2021 17:48

‘...Happy to kill people for a better social life?’

@Confusedcabbage
Perfect line! I’m going to start using that line with the Covidiots I have the displeasure to know!
