@dreamingbohemian

It would be quite interesting if Greenwich decide to shut again and tell the government to go ahead and take them to court.
I really hope Greenwich does.
MadameMinimes · 30/12/2020 19:49

The London boroughs not included make no sense to me. I can’t understand why Haringey would not be on the list when neighbouring Barnet is despite Haringey having a higher rate per 100,000 and a higher % increase this week.

Quartz2208 · 30/12/2020 19:51

Epsom and Ewell though (border of Sutton) which shares schools etc and high figures is as Tory as you can possibly get (we quite literally have never had anything other than a Tory MP)

NOTANUM · 30/12/2020 19:52

For every parent here upset because their borough has been left off the closed list, I can see other parents on local forums in bits as they face losing their jobs or leaving 10 year olds alone. It's a very difficult situation both ways.
I don't know how Camden and Islington remain open other than being the London home to many MPs of all parties!

Quartz2208 · 30/12/2020 20:10

I dont think it is about being upset it more about the ludicrous situation whereby myself and Strawberrypancakes live on the same road but one of us can send our children to school and the other cant.

Or indeed my own situation where I have one child in a borough that is open and the older one in a Secondary that we dont know about (although I am not sure what the Secondary rules are regarding opening)

It seems a strange and arbitrary way but I guess the line has to be drawn somewhere

rosieposie17 · 30/12/2020 20:22

Hope not.
I’m in Harrow

Crunchymum · 30/12/2020 20:38

I think its just a matter of time for the boroughs who aren't having a delayed start (funny how both Greenwich and Islington are boroughs set to open as planned) as teachers often don't live in the borough they work in. So they'll either be fucked due to childcare or end up transmitting it...

Teachers are keyworkers so their children should be able to access schools. In terms of transmission, yes, it doesn't make sense for some boroughs to be on the list and others not given both adults and children cross boroughs for schools and work.

Leader of Greenwich Council has tweeted something expressing his concern and asking to see the data that the decision was based on.

If I were a betting man I wouldn't be surprised if Greenwich shuts. Personally I hope Lewisham does the same and would fully support them if they did.

Char2015 · 30/12/2020 21:03

From Sky News:

The government has been criticised by the leader of Greenwich council, Danny Thorpe, whose borough was left untouched by the government's contingency framework which has forced some primary schools to close.

"In a case-by-case comparison, there appears to be no logic to how this list was brought together," Mr Thorpe stated in an open letter.

He noted that Kensington and Chelsea, another London borough, "has one of the lowest infection rates for the whole of the capital, yet their children and young people are being afforded the extra protection that apparently Royal Greenwich students don’t need.

"While we are very glad that they will benefit from these extra precautions, we can only speculate why this borough was included, yet with an infection rate more than 200 cases higher per 100,000, Royal Greenwich was not."

Milomonster · 30/12/2020 21:29

Absolutely bonkers. We live in Westminster (schools shut) but DS’s school is in Camden (open). Did they really think children don’t cross boroughs for schooling?

doubleshotespresso · 30/12/2020 21:38

I really hope Dan Thorpe shuts the schools throughout Greenwich. There's surely more than enough evidence to demonstrate that this is unsafe and of course a calculated and deathly move made by Williamson ?

UntamedShrew · 30/12/2020 21:52

The list is bizarre. If I had children in Lambeth or Greenwich or any of the other ‘primaries open’ boroughs I’m not sure I’d send them in. I cried about the schools being closed, my kids are sad and I’m shitting it about doing my job and home schooling... but I don’t trust this government to have made a sensible call to keep schools in other boroughs open. We all know they are going to close those ones too at the next review so why run the risk?

Fortherosesjoni70 · 30/12/2020 21:54

Well once you add xmas mingling
Christmas shopping
New Year activities
They will all close!

dreamingbohemian · 30/12/2020 22:39

@thepeopleversuswork

Yes I'll be interested to see what they do

We've had a letter from our headteacher (Lewisham). It just says they are reading the government guidance, will update their risk assessment and share it with us asap. Not sure how to interpret that.

istherelifeafter40 · 30/12/2020 22:45

Wandsworth is Con (closed); Lambeth next to it is Labour (open). This is criminal - is the idea that non-tory get killed off? And these people are called (looking for glasses) politicians?

TolstoyAteMyHamster · 30/12/2020 22:59

This is completely mad. My borough has sky high rates and they are going up fast. Kids on my street go to school in two neighbouring boroughs because we are only a couple of miles wide - or at least, would if the schools there were open. And children from those boroughs of course come to school here, which will apparently remain open.

It’s almost as if the person who put that list together just missed a handful off at random so they could pretend there was some logic to it rather than seeing headlines that say “London schools to close”.

If there is a good reason, I think we have a right to know what it is.

baroqueandblue · 30/12/2020 23:02

I emailed Danny Thorpe earlier and said I'd fully support any disobedient action. We're being governed by child murderers.

I think you should ask the reason for it. Here, they have closed all schools - blanket for now. Before that we were on level 4 and put there despite our numbers being lower because of the hospitals and the threat to rising admissions.
MissEliza · 30/12/2020 23:06

We're being governed by child murderers. Don't be so fucking ridiculous.

Fortherosesjoni70 · 30/12/2020 23:07

The hospitals neighbouring us being high prevalance.

A wee bit strong but they dont give a fuck.
Fortherosesjoni70 · 30/12/2020 23:08

They will have their own personal hospital bed. Have protections for their child. Sitting up looking down at all the minions as they scrabble around for hospital beds.

baroqueandblue · 30/12/2020 23:10

Don't be so fucking ridiculous.

Qualify that. As far as I'm concerned, government are more than happy to keep primary schools in our borough open despite our local hospital being at the top of the national news this week because of a horrendous rise in case numbers.
