Camden open - kier Starmer.

littlestpogo · 30/12/2020 19:06

The list for London school closure does look really odd.

I can only assume or hope the government had more up to date data than the published data we have which has a time lag ( which is also affected by Xmas atm). And it’s maybe linked to rate of increase?

carcarbinks · 30/12/2020 19:07

Hospitals where I live have declared an major incident but the schools are still opening Confused

littlestpogo · 30/12/2020 19:08

Also you’d have to think that leaving schools open in little pockets like that will just mean the impact of closing the schools in the other boroughs will be lessened and will potentially lead to longer closure ( presumably with some of those currently open boroughs joining the rest!)

ImperialLeather00 · 30/12/2020 19:10

I don’t understand.
My borough is much higher (in top 40) and staying open than others that are closing.
Hammersmith and Fulham for example at number 60 is closing...

dreamingbohemian · 30/12/2020 19:15

It would be quite interesting if Greenwich decide to shut again and tell the government to go ahead and take them to court.

HeronLanyon · 30/12/2020 19:17

Oh dreaming that would be extremely interesting wouldn’t it ?!

minipie · 30/12/2020 19:18

This list must be wrong.

Lambeth figures are higher than many but they are off the list. K&C are relatively low but they are on the list.

I bet there will be a revised list soon.

DelphiniumBlue · 30/12/2020 19:19

@dreamingbohemian

So there are only 10 London boroughs that are not closed, spread out across all of London (i.e., often surrounded by boroughs that are shut)

9 Labour, 1 Lib Dem

Two of which were threatened with legal action for trying to close early before Christmas (Greenwich and Islington)

Redbridge has the second highest case rate in London and is staying open FFS

This is either total incompetence or political point scoring (or both I guess)

That would be an explanation for this otherwise incomprehensible decision. Jeez, this is turning me into a conspiracy theorist!
dreamingbohemian · 30/12/2020 19:19

I think so @HeronLanyon -- I mean I have no idea about the law on this, but you would think a court wouldn't sanction a council for this when the government has not given a reason for its decision and there is no obvious logic to it.

EmmanuelleMakro · 30/12/2020 19:20

Richmond is 641 per 100k, lots of boroughs higher than that not on list (e.g. Kingston) doesn’t make much sense.
Totally puzzling! Cheek by jowil, masses of crossover, and people in Richmond use Kingston Hospital Confused

TodgerStrunk · 30/12/2020 19:20

It's an odd list. Aldershot and surrounds had 1000+ per 100K cases. No mention.

itsgettingweird · 30/12/2020 19:21

All my favourite I think it's because this variant strain transmits twice as fast and seems to transmit through children more.
That's why tiers are tighter.

Char2015 · 30/12/2020 19:22

I mean how difficult is it to look at the numbers and see where cases are high and then not so high. It's like they have taken some from the top, some from the middle, and some from the bottom of the list of all the boroughs just to compile a list. There is no thought in this list at all. Even the data can't justify this list. All London schools should be closed.

Useruseruserusee · 30/12/2020 19:22

I just can’t understand missing out Redbridge at all. At points it has had the highest rates in London and is surrounded by boroughs where schools are closed. Where is the logic??

itsgettingweird · 30/12/2020 19:22

@Mooey89

I can’t believe the schools down here (Portsmouth) are staying open 🤦🏼‍♀️
Portsmouths case rates are rocketing.

I'm a town outside (one of the T2 to T4 Boxing Day ones)

It's definitely heading our way quickly.

ConfusedcomMum · 30/12/2020 19:22

Redbridge closed now (left out in error)

Char2015 · 30/12/2020 19:24

How many more 'errors' should we expect?

phlebasconsidered · 30/12/2020 19:25

It wasn't left out in error. They fucked up and it's been pointed out.

And to punish Greenwich like that is utterly disgusting. Because that is what it is - a punishment.

SimonJT · 30/12/2020 19:25

Ah yes, they forgot to type Redbridge, that will be what really happened...I wonder how many typos will be identified by Sunday evening

dreamingbohemian · 30/12/2020 19:27

I mean look at this map of open and closed boroughs, it's ridiculous

baroqueandblue · 30/12/2020 19:38

Jeez, this is turning me into a conspiracy theorist!

It's turning my stomach. The race to be London mayor is well and truly on. What are we supposed to think - vote Labour and the government will take your kids and teachers hostage? This is a direct result of their unbounded giddy arrogance over Brexit. The Tories are owning us.

GawdrestyeJerryMentlemen · 30/12/2020 19:40

bmake kids go to school in Camden because it is Keir Starmer's borough and maybe he will get the virus via his chikdren???? no sense made.

RubyViolet · 30/12/2020 19:44

@dreamingbohemian

It would be quite interesting if Greenwich decide to shut again and tell the government to go ahead and take them to court.
I think it’s a possibility.
