I thought it was primary schools in all London boroughs that wild be closed, considering they are all tier 4?!? 🤔

Omeara · 30/12/2020 17:52

Islington isn't on there either.

PTW1234 · 30/12/2020 17:57

I wonder in terms of pupil % will now not be at school? Gavin cleverly said “majority of promised schools will be open”.

But in terms of actual pupil nationally, given how densely populated most of the places are? If you shut our primary that’s only 180 kids or so..

Fortherosesjoni70 · 30/12/2020 17:59

This alone will create disadvantage. Honestly. What a shit show.
Rest assured, they will all be closed very soon.
How on earth are they going to make schools safe by Monday?
You should wear a mask as a member of staff regardless of what anyone says.
What about the kids and parents of kids. They are now certain to catch it.

Spiratedaway · 30/12/2020 18:01

Thanks honey we are on there

AlwaysLatte · 30/12/2020 18:07

Ah, thank you so much @Lumene
My 10 year old wants to give you the biggest Covid-free and socially distanced hug. After the announcement he had the saddest face ever when he learned he would be going to school a full two weeks before his older brother!
The older brother is not so grateful, but little brothers are to be treasured, it's a good opportunity to work on that! Grin

Ilovenewyear · 30/12/2020 18:08

@Meredusoleil nope, only those on the list.

It’s the area the school is located so someone who lives in an area on the list can travel to a school they attend in an area not on the list.

That’s my understanding anyway.

I think it's the areas with the highest rates. Seems a bit daft, though. May as well have just made it Greater London, and all pupils from GL who travel outside of GL to school.
AndAllOurYesterdays · 30/12/2020 18:10

Surprised Haringey isn't on the list. Barnet is and rates are lower per 100k there. They must be using some other measure. Or someone has made a mistake on a spreadsheet somewhere

peridito · 30/12/2020 18:12

@november90

Early Years

Early years settings (including nurseries and childminders) should continue to allow all children/pupils to attend as normal. School-based nurseries in primary schools have discretion to follow arrangements for the primary school.

Attendance expectations: Early years
*Attendance at early years and childcare settings is not compulsory^

@Stylinson

How can Lewisham and Greenwich not be on that list???
That's exactly what I was wondering.

Why on earth, as a parent, would you if you could avoid it send your kids in to a school in an island surrounded by closed schools.

I'm in Lewisham and if I can get away with it I'm keeping my kid out to the 18th. I'm very lucky I can do that but if I was a teacher or a key worker parent in a Lewisham or Greenwich school I'd feel like this was a giant fuck you....

Blonk · 30/12/2020 18:12

How have they decided this?

Example, Hackney more cases than many on the list and surrounded by closed boroughs, but not actually closed! Bizzare, they seem to be making this up as they go along.

dreamingbohemian · 30/12/2020 18:12

Why the fuck is Lewisham and Greenwich not on that list?

Surrounded by boroughs that are shut

Higher case rates than a number of London boroughs that are shut

Lots of people coming into those schools from neighbouring boroughs

Let me guess, the government doesn't want the embarrassment after threatening to take Greenwich to court.

Whatisthepoint10 · 30/12/2020 18:13

I’ve checked the number of cases in different boroughs of London and some of the boroughs with open primaries have more cases than the boroughs with closed schools. Is there any logic?

dreamingbohemian · 30/12/2020 18:14

Btw you can see the latest case rates by borough here:

Exactly.

Fucking idiots. Such a predictable own goal from every conceivable angle: health, logistics, public relations.

Blonk · 30/12/2020 18:15

Not closing primary schools in Greenwich is definitely political point scoring. Arseholes!

ofwarren · 30/12/2020 18:15

With further education colleges, are they all back on the 18th or does it depend what year they are in?

I mean closed boroughs have less cases. So how do they decide?
nosswith · 30/12/2020 18:18

Make kids in Islington go to school, where Jeremy Corbyn is an MP.
Make kids in Haringey, the area where the west of the borough is full of arty people and 'yummy mummies' (and dads) who are more able than most given their professions to wfh and so would be less likely to suffer income loss.
Make kids in Greenwich go to school, where the council wanted to shut in person a week early.
Make kids in the Prime Minister's constituency stay at home, so he cannot lose more votes from any Covid increase in late January.

Seems a list in part driven by nastiness.

@november90

Thank you so much! Does anyone know if this effects nurseries as They don't seem to have mentioned nurseries?
School-based Nurseries are included in the documentation- assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/948580/Contingency_framework_implementation_guidance.pdf I see Haringey is not on the list, although it has been quite hard hit in recent days, and is surrounded by other boroughs who are on the list. I'll be travelling to work in Haringey from a London borough with closed schools because of high levels - therefore potentially transmitting the virus across boroughs. I don't know why they don't just close all the schools for a few weeks save for keyworkers and vulnerable children. At least people can then make arrangements rather than getting calls in the middle of work day to come and get a child who will need to go straight into isolation.
Whattheactual20201 · 30/12/2020 18:21

It is a bit odd Islington has higher rates than my London borough and surrounding boroughs of my borough and ours are on the list.

Lairyfightzzzz · 30/12/2020 18:23

I'm in Lewisham. My reception aged child will not be going back.

Quite!
