PM is due to make an announcement tomorrow what are youre predictions. I suspect larges area of the North moving from tier 3 to tier 4 and potentially tier 5 (closing schools) in London. Personally I think a full lockdown like March is required too many are mixing between the tiers and thats all those posting in social media.

I have just handed in my pcr test which we were all given (school staff) when we broke up. It will be interesting to see how many positives we get after the six I know of over the holidays. I'm primary and I want to be back but I want to be safe. Maybe that's why I just bought 5 litres of hand sanitiser!

I haven't prepped for online learning yet as I am hoping it won't happen. This May of course change tomorrow!

CallmeAngelGabriel · 29/12/2020 15:53

@Sertchgi123

The numbers have dropped where we live. We've been in tier 3 for ages, so I can't see us going into tier 4.
The numbers might have dropped, but that won't remain the case for long with this new variant if you stay mingling at Tier 3 level.
FestiveFruitloop · 29/12/2020 15:55

I think they'll shy away from closing schools. But I think it needs to happen. I don't see how any of the other measures can protect anyone while the schools are open.

EssentialHummus · 29/12/2020 15:56

Whole of England into Tier 4 from midnight tomorrow, schools will carry on for now and by third or last week in January we'll be in a full April style lockdown again.

This is my sense too. Waffle waffle, alas alas, graphs of doom, next slide please.

Remmy123 · 29/12/2020 15:57

Whole country will go to teir 4. Everyone work from home. Schools remain open. Secondaries delayed.

Remmy123 · 29/12/2020 15:58

There won't be a full lockdown like April when roads were deserted because people are not afraid any more. People are mixing more. People have had enough.

Approval of the Oxford vaccinewith details of the mass vaccination programme. Detailed explanation of how exams are going to happen. Plans for helping all children bridge the gap in their education.

@Bocadilla

Think schools ( both primary and secondary) and nurseries will be closed
BBC reckons only secondary schools to close.
LittleFir · 29/12/2020 16:01

@Catsneezies

I think schools need to close. But I think the government will keep primaries open (secondaries online except for Y11 and Y13) until the rates go sky high, we have 1000+ deaths a day and hospitals are turning people away, and then they will close primaries as well as secondaries.
I'd say that the primary rate of 2,100 per 100,00 (as of Dec 18th) is sky high....
nancyclancy123 · 29/12/2020 16:01

I hope they keep schools open but start vaccinating the staff ASAP, along with other keyworkers!!!

garlictwist · 29/12/2020 16:02

Where does it say the PM is making an announcement tomorrow? I can't see anything.

Worldgonecrazy · 29/12/2020 16:03

Everyone in Tier 5. No schools. Essential shopping only, with the army checking baskets. People welded into their homes to prevent any sneaky exercise. Army checkpoints every 1/2 mile.....

Viviennemary · 29/12/2020 16:04

Nearly everyone in Tier 4. La la la. It's groundhog day.

Belladonna12 · 29/12/2020 16:04

I think if the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine gets approved it would make sense to shut everything down including schools for a month and for there to be a huge effort to vaccinate everyone NHS staff, everyone over 50 and teachers. They need to prioritise NHS staff over the elderly now too.

BiggerTallerFaster · 29/12/2020 16:05

I hope it's a short full lockdown (as full as we were in March) while they make a gargantuan effort to get the vaccinations done.

I suspect it will be a bit of tinkering round the edges

Cecily42 · 29/12/2020 16:05

I think schools need to provide better online learning. There seems to be such a big difference between schools and what they are doing for the kids.

allmycats · 29/12/2020 16:05

Tier 4 everywhere. Hope closure of covid visiting stores, I.e. Garden centres, B&Q, The Range etc. In order to stop all the families trolling around them for a day out. Schools to close, apart from for essential workers. NO travel out of own area, apart from essential work or medical appointments. Lockdown really.

Quaagars · 29/12/2020 16:07

Hopefully getting rid of all these stupid tiers.
Either put us in a proper lockdown like before or don't, but it's absolutely ridiculous we can't have anyone over indoors/go away for the night but if I'm 20 minutes down the road I could.
Stop dicking about with tiers is my hope, get rid of 'em!
Makes me think what is the bloody point when everyone's doing different things.

PhilCornwall1 · 29/12/2020 16:08

People welded into their homes to prevent any sneaky exercise.

I'd like to see them do that to my doors and windows, they're uPVC!!

justanotherneighinparadise · 29/12/2020 16:08

Im going to predict nurseries and primaries stay open, secondaries shut and more areas move into tier 4.

LadyPenelope68 · 29/12/2020 16:09

@Armi
They won’t close schools. They want parents in work and are happy to kill school staff to accomplish this.
This exactly!

wanderings · 29/12/2020 16:11

Look at Mumsnet practically drooling and salivating over lockdown, lockdown, lockdown, army patrolling the streets, ruined futures for their children, tier 5, schools closed for months and months.

The massive forthcoming recession, the complete destruction of people's lives and businesses, the isolation, the suicides, the obesity crisis, the mental health crisis simply don't matter at all... only this race to the bottom where all that matters is complete and utter misery.

justanotherneighinparadise · 29/12/2020 16:12

My prediction for nurseries and primaries is on the basis of needing the parents to be able to go to work still. You can’t have key worker children in schools if the teachers are providing live lessons for the kids at home. That only worked last time as they just completely ignored the kids at home and pretended they didn’t exist for three months.

justanotherneighinparadise · 29/12/2020 16:12

Most of the people salivating are either retired or secure on their jobs.
trappedsincesundaymorn · 29/12/2020 16:13

Well unless the schools are shut, it's not going to be anything of value.
