PM is due to make an announcement tomorrow what are youre predictions. I suspect larges area of the North moving from tier 3 to tier 4 and potentially tier 5 (closing schools) in London. Personally I think a full lockdown like March is required too many are mixing between the tiers and thats all those posting in social media.

He will announce the roll out of the Oxford vaccine

He can’t-it hasn’t been approved yet.

OppsUpsSide · 29/12/2020 15:11

Secondary schools delayed opening for all but most vulnerable, primary open and continuing as normal. So a shit show basically

PurpleDaisies · 29/12/2020 15:13

I might change mine slightly to secondary schools open to exam years (and key worker children).

zzizz · 29/12/2020 15:13

Aliens have landed. We all have three days to learn Xioepjlorean Alpha.

I mean not much else would surprise me these days.

sweetchristmastime · 29/12/2020 15:14

Full lockdown and schools will close til March

flawsandceilings · 29/12/2020 15:15

They need to get the "meet one person outside" bit sorted. Drove past Kew Gardens today. So, so busy. Queues of people and obviously lots of mixed family groups and groups of friends. Saw 3 Kew mummies (it's a type) all with pushchairs and mixed age kids sipping lattes and chatting as they waited in the queue. Obviously all just agreed to meet up.
Tbh the whole queue looked like that.

Once you give a bit of a loophole it gets exploited.

hettyhooverdoover · 29/12/2020 15:16

They will talk about the importance of not gathering at NYE because some people will need reminding 🙄

3littlewords · 29/12/2020 15:16

I think that Boris will put us all in lockdown ( or tier 5 if he doesn't want to say the words "lockdown") from Thursday( to prevent new year eve mixing)

New year eve mixing is already not allowed in tier 2 3 and 4 (not sure about 1) so I suspect if anyone has already decided to go against current advice they will do so regardless of any new tier 5 or lockdown

DianaOfTheLakes · 29/12/2020 15:20

I think a lockdown (even if it's called something else), including closing schools is now inevitable. Whether we go into it now, or in a few more weeks, is the question.

Frouby · 29/12/2020 15:22

At the start of the week I was very against lockdown/school closures, then yesterday all for it. Now I have looked at my areas rates (tier 3 for months) I can see across the county its about 210/100,000. 5 times less than London/south east and about 100 per 100k than October. That's not to say it will stay that way with new strain obviously but with a long way to get to those figures. Secondary schools are struggling but primary ds goes to fine, neither dd in yr 12 or yr 2 ds has had to self isolate so it seems a bit harsh to drag them into it.

Alas, it'll be same old waffle and schools will have military ' help' over the phones. Even though they won't mention the 'phones' bit...
PhilCornwall1 · 29/12/2020 15:23

If it's Johnson doing it, that:

  1. Matt Hancock has been removed from his Ministerial position.
  2. That he's sacked him as an MP, even though he can't, as he's just changed the rules (he's good at that you know) and broken the law in a "limited and specific way" to do it.
  3. Dominic Cummings has been appointed to replace Hancock in both positions.

Handover to Cummings:

  1. Whitty and Vallance have been sacked.
  2. SAGE has been dissolved.
  3. The pandemic is over, everything is open, get back to work, but you'd best get yourself a Sun Life Over 50s Plan.
hopingforonlychild · 29/12/2020 15:24

tier 5 in london- schools to close, not allowed to meet anyone outside (in tier 4, we are allowed to meet 1 person outside). March lockdown 2.0 basically. I don't think they can be stricter, there isn't any way to regulate supermarket trips and they can't stop people walking on the streets- people need to walk their dogs. Some people don't have food shops in their postcode. They need to keep the Tube and buses running for the essential workers.

Tier 3 areas to be in tier 4.

Sertchgi123 · 29/12/2020 15:25

The numbers have dropped where we live. We've been in tier 3 for ages, so I can't see us going into tier 4.

dogsaremypeople · 29/12/2020 15:26

I think we're all going to being tier 4 for January starting from 00.01 New Year's Day

the80sweregreat · 29/12/2020 15:27

@TableFlowerss

Everything closed. Schools will stay open
Everything is already closed here (I'm tier 4) and it's really bad still! Not sure what else they can close apart from schools next week.
rollinggreenhills · 29/12/2020 15:28

I think Northamptonshire will go into Tier 4. It borders other counties which are already in that tier, and the hospitals are starting to creak under the strain.

Also possibly a later return to school for Tier 4 areas.

GabsAlot · 29/12/2020 15:30

problem is it will never be like march he wont shut all shops and that still encourages people to go out

i reckon tier 4 for everyone with schools open

TheAlphaandtheOmega · 29/12/2020 15:31

Nothing has been really hinted at for large changes like countrywide lockdown so a lot of upward movement in tiers, probably no downward movement and some sort of rules for NYE about not mixing. Maybe new tier 5 for very high areas. Definitely think he will stick with tiers.

SonjaMorgan · 29/12/2020 15:32

As much as I am dreading it I think that schools will have to close. The number of deaths per day did not go down significantly during the last half arsed lockdown (was it November?).

nosswith · 29/12/2020 15:32

Announcements on schools not re-opening all next week or even the following one.
More areas in tier 4.

I also expect that the Prime Minister will be late for any press conference, as per usual.

Yetithesnowwoman · 29/12/2020 15:32

@HotSince63

Whole of England into Tier 4 from midnight tomorrow, schools will carry on for now and by third or last week in January we'll be in a full April style lockdown again.
Agree this is most likely

Yep, so do I, our bit isn't so bad but Northampton and some other parts are.
PhilCornwall1 · 29/12/2020 15:33

Alas, I fear you are right.

TableFlowerss · 29/12/2020 15:34

I’m
In tier 4 too and folk are going about their business as usual. Saying to DH before, I can’t believe all the cars on the road etc.... and people wandering around.

In the first lockdown it was not as busy as this by a long stretch. You’d never guy we were in tier 4 here!
