PM is due to make an announcement tomorrow what are youre predictions. I suspect larges area of the North moving from tier 3 to tier 4 and potentially tier 5 (closing schools) in London. Personally I think a full lockdown like March is required too many are mixing between the tiers and thats all those posting in social media.

Does anyone have a source for the press conference tomorrow I can’t see anything being reported

@1forAll74

I think schools should close for some time, it's awful I know, and very troublesome for thousands of people, but think it would be a wise move now.

guess

the80sweregreat · 29/12/2020 15:34

@GabsAlot

problem is it will never be like march he wont shut all shops and that still encourages people to go out

i reckon tier 4 for everyone with schools open

It's just my opinion but schools being open doesn't help matters as people will not take it seriously I'm in tier 4 now and although the non essential shops are closed up etc everywhere else is still busy. If a teacher or staff can mingle with ( potentially) 30 other families at school then they will argue they can go out / see family etc etc. there is t any logic to tier 4 but schools open but then I'm not one the experts or In the government

Sorry! Quoted wrong person there!!

HotSince63 · 29/12/2020 15:35

I also expect that the Prime Minister will be late for any press conference, as per usual

That pretty much goes without saying Grin

thewinkingprawn · 29/12/2020 15:35

Where does it say that the PM is due to make an announcement tomorrow? I can only see that Matt Hancock is due to update the tiers as usual on a Wednesday....

Complete lockdown for 4-6 months.

One of these mugs free per household to make us smile.

Likely most of England in tier four and delay of opening of secondaries. They are expecting to start seeing the decline in numbers from London and south east going into tier four, so they will just move the rest of the country into it and delay the return of secondary schools.

The problem is unless we're all in the same Tier lots of people will go to the nearest Tier 2 area for NYE.

4 of our friends (2 couples) are going out for a meal together into Tier 2 and weren't asked when booking what Tier they're from (we are in T3), whether they are separate households, etc.

Goodbye2020Hello2021 · 29/12/2020 15:38

Secondary school return dates will be delayed by at least an extra week under plans agreed by ministers yesterday, Tes can reveal.

Under a revised re-opening scheme Year 11 and Year 13 exam students will not return to school from Monday 4 January as had been intended but instead will receive remote education.

Next week would see secondaries open only to vulnerable students or children of key workers, giving schools more room to set up mass testing.

The following week beginning 11 January would see testing start. Year 11 and 13 students would be given priority for the tests that would then allow them to start returning to school that week.

All secondary students would be due back in schools for lessons from the week of 18 January, and primary schools would open from 4 January as normal.

Tes understands the plan has yet to have final Downing Street approval but may be unveiled tomorrow.

It was worked out at a meeting involving the Department for Education, Department of Health, Cabinet Office and Downing Street yesterday.

But thus far teaching unions have yet to be consulted and were not made aware of the meeting.

Many secondary heads who will have to carry the plans out are reported to be “furious” about their representatives being “left out in the cold”.

It’s a pre scheduled tier review

StealthPolarBear · 29/12/2020 15:40

I'm sure the detail will all be leaked over the next 24h

The lovely mug picture is there! I want one.
HibernatingTill2030 · 29/12/2020 15:41

Hopefully it will be:
Schools are closing for minimum of one month nationwide (needs to be nationwide IMO- in the south it's too late, but might prevent a massive surge in other areas)
Oxford vaccine roll out announced
And hopefully some kind of plan in place, but not confident.

It already has been - see my post above - Times Ed.

You really have one of those don't you? 😀
Eggsley · 29/12/2020 15:44

@rollinggreenhills @TheAlphaandtheOmega I think so too. We're completed surrounded by T4 counties, and even though we were in T2 just over a week ago, people have been heading into Northants to do their shopping etc because more shops are open.

custardbear · 29/12/2020 15:44

I really hope they close all
Schools, that TES report said primary will
Open .... what's the point in that!

Goodbye2020Hello2021 · 29/12/2020 15:45

stealth

Schools info. only obviously!

annevonkleve · 29/12/2020 15:46

@TableFlowerss

I’m In tier 4 too and folk are going about their business as usual. Saying to DH before, I can’t believe all the cars on the road etc.... and people wandering around.

In the first lockdown it was not as busy as this by a long stretch. You’d never guy we were in tier 4 here!

But why is that a problem? People are allowed out in their cars and they're allowed out for exercise.

Personally I'd like to stop the large family groups going out for incredibly slow walks blocking the path with about 3 kids, maybe all on scooters and 2 dogs. But I can't legitimately say in any way that it increases the covid infection risk, it just annoys me!

TallTowerFan · 29/12/2020 15:49

@PhilCornwall1 it's on order , that image is stolen from Twitter.

Seriouslymole · 29/12/2020 15:50

@Catsneezies

I think schools need to close. But I think the government will keep primaries open (secondaries online except for Y11 and Y13) until the rates go sky high, we have 1000+ deaths a day and hospitals are turning people away, and then they will close primaries as well as secondaries.
Then they will close primaries and secondaries and the attainment gap between rich and poor will never, ever been remedied; the deaths from children in abusive homes will be myriad; the economy will grind to a halt (but we all forget that we actually need the private sector to pay for the public sector "keyworkers" - surely those keeping the economy going are also keyworkers?); the mental health of a generation will be fucked - but hey, yeah definitely schools need to close.
