PM is due to make an announcement tomorrow what are youre predictions. I suspect larges area of the North moving from tier 3 to tier 4 and potentially tier 5 (closing schools) in London. Personally I think a full lockdown like March is required too many are mixing between the tiers and thats all those posting in social media.

I had to return something to RL last night (shop left security tag on) - got there at 6pm and it was dead. I live in South Northants but work in MK.

flowerycurtain · 30/12/2020 06:38

@JufusMum it's normally quiet after 5pm but often v busy in the day.

I work in North Beds and there's a lot of people saying "oh, it's the South of the county with the problem, not our nice lovely rural bit"

Saw a huge hoo haa on the Kimbolton fb page about North Beds people using the post office! It got a bit feral!

covetingthepreciousthings · 30/12/2020 06:48

A lot of the press are rehashing the same stuff. Should, could, would. I think personally there is radio silence around issues because they don’t want it to explode.

I agree, I was expecting it to be all over the press last night after the meeting about tiers and schools.. but doesn't seem to be any new known information.
Just hope the announcement happens today and we're not kept waiting.

He will announce the roll out of the Oxford vaccine

He can’t-it hasn’t been approved yet.

rosie1959 · 30/12/2020 07:11

Quite honestly expecting full lockdown

bornatXmastobequiet · 30/12/2020 07:19

He will announce the roll out of the Oxford vaccine

He can now

www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-55280671

I predict it will be rolled out for over 16s in schools, once they’ve abandoned the testing plan as unworkable and dangerous .

Distiller91 · 30/12/2020 07:32

I think it'll just be areas moved up to a higher tier.

DecemberSun · 30/12/2020 07:45

Oxford vaccine approved.

Time to close all schools in some areas. NHS overwhelmed.

itsgettingweird · 30/12/2020 07:47

We have Oxford vaccine now GrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrin

So whatever we do hopefully it'll be for 4-6 weeks.

So either schools online for half a term.

Or just month of January.

Remember that after next 4-6 weeks it would be expected our weather will warm up which will help massively. Not just with spread but people getting out and about more and not wanting to meet indoor just briefly when rules say not to.

Beebityboo · 30/12/2020 07:55

I'm hoping they will give parents a choice about sending their primary schoolers in, considering the state of the NHS currently. I doubt it though Sad.

LittleRen · 30/12/2020 08:02

BBC reporting more areas to move to tier 4.. no mention of full uk lockdown

Lairyfightzzzz · 30/12/2020 08:10

Yet again our shit government is too slow to act.

Timeturnerplease · 30/12/2020 08:11

Primaries, nurseries and pre schools to be used 24 hours a day as schools, pubs and restaurants as Covid daren’t enter them.

Schools will be expected to pay for this from their existing budget. It is not important for them to be able to pay their heating bills, for school funding is at the highest it’s ever been, and there are no classes that exceed 15.

Fizbosshoes · 30/12/2020 08:11

6 weeks is 10th February, I wouldn't expect weather to warm up by then? More likely middle or end of March if we're waiting for more mild weather.

TheAlphaandtheOmega · 30/12/2020 08:12

Yes, I imagine most will go up to tier 3 or 4, probably only Isles of Scilly in low tier 1 or 2. A new tier 5 for the very high case places. No full lockdown has been mentioned though that could come later in January

Lairyfightzzzz · 30/12/2020 08:12

If they close schools my reception aged child doesn't even get to learn the basics at incase

You do realise that in countries with much better educational outcomes than the UK they don't even start learning to read until age 7?

Lairyfightzzzz · 30/12/2020 08:13

They should be throwing money at the NHS so they CAN cope

There aren't enough staff. Unless you're suggesting it is possible to train doctors and nurses in the space of a few days?

covetingthepreciousthings · 30/12/2020 08:14

Oxford vaccine approved

Assuming he'll announce this and nothing else today then so that he's only got good news..

Lairyfightzzzz · 30/12/2020 08:14

Hancock said on LBC that the only thing he will announce today is more T4.

PandemicPavolova · 30/12/2020 08:15

Yes February can be cold but its lighter, we are not trapped inside as much are we. We can get out for longer, later.

Groundhogdayzz · 30/12/2020 08:21

Schools shouldn’t need to close, if the rules they had were followed and enforced we wouldn’t be in this situation. I’m in tier 2 area, and know so many people who have been mixing with friends, meeting for drinks and going into each other’s houses. Very few people social distance in shops. Children’s education should be a priority, they are the future.

the80sweregreat · 30/12/2020 08:25

The news about hospitals is so bleak today but still they are just moving the tiers around..
I despair to be honest.

Frokni · 30/12/2020 08:28

@rollinggreenhills @TheAlphaandtheOmega I am in Wellingborough which feels quite compliant and our numbers aren't horrendous but yes I think being surrounded by higher tiered areas will inevitably push us up.

TheAlphaandtheOmega · 30/12/2020 08:29

On BBC he said stay at home on New Years but that was just like advice and it sounded like only tier changes would be announced today. Schools under review and education secretary will update but it didn't sound like that was part of today's announcement
