PM is due to make an announcement tomorrow what are youre predictions. I suspect larges area of the North moving from tier 3 to tier 4 and potentially tier 5 (closing schools) in London. Personally I think a full lockdown like March is required too many are mixing between the tiers and thats all those posting in social media.

I'm really really hoping Unis will stay open, but that's a massive selfish shove for me as I don't want dd's degree disrupted any more than it has been already.

If not for that,, I would like a complete lockdown like we had before.

MagicSummer · 29/12/2020 19:00

NYE is desperately boring anyway. Hopefully no bloody fireworks which go on and on and on halfway through the night.

Are takeaways a risk

No idea, I've been having them all the way through though!
PrincessNutNuts · 29/12/2020 19:04

@Elephant4

In Tier 4. Everything is closed. We're in London. There are no shops open - except food shops and pharmacies and many of those are shut out of choice.

In the centre of London everything is shut too. The whole place is a ghost town.

Yes there are schools that they can shut. But people are walking everywhere - meeting up outside. No Tier anything is going to stop that now.

It's not March. We're no longer afraid. We will not be locked up - whatever the government dictates tomorrow.

You want to come to our Tier 4 garden centre. They've got a sale on. It's been heaving.

My mum's friend went with her mother, her daughter and the grandchildren.

They got loads of bargains.

And probably covid.

Amira19 · 29/12/2020 19:09

The Christmas sales won't have helped pictures of shops rammed with bargain hunters. We need to take some accountability for the fact some haven't helped the situation its staggering even looking on social media just how many have disregarded the rules.

Cumbria will be in Tier 3 due to idiots coming from London and walking in the Lakes, getting lost and rescued by the Mountain Rescue. Couldn’t make it up

VinylDetective · 29/12/2020 19:12

@Frozenintime

They said in the last few days that schools would stay open ?
Means nothing, they u turn all the time.
Pastanred · 29/12/2020 19:16

This again - it’s not shops and garden centres causing the spread

It’s indoor contact - at home and work

ConfusedcomMum · 29/12/2020 19:16

Just got this text from my GP surgery:

"London Ambulance Service and our local hospitals are extremely busy. Please support our staff by only calling 999 in an emergency.

If you feel unwell and it is not an emergency please call your GP. If your GP isn't open and it is urgent please visit nhs.uk/111 online or phone 111. They will able to guide you to where you can get help.

Why does Covid come out after 8pm ?

Just to stop people going out to party. Hours picked at random. Maybe 12 noon to 12 noon instead ;)

Pastanred · 29/12/2020 19:17

Those people shopping will be putting less at risk asthma all those who are in bubbles as shopping is fleeting contact only - and most are in a mask and massive coat!

Not sat at home with their mum who’s 70

Pastanred · 29/12/2020 19:17

Asthma = than

CallmeAngelGabriel · 29/12/2020 19:18

Yeah, but hey. Let's all go back to school next week.

Decembersnowfall · 29/12/2020 19:22

My prediction is primary schools open, secondary closed apart from exam years. Whole of England in tier 4 from NYE

BungleandGeorge · 29/12/2020 19:22

@etopp

Well, that's something. But the (other) vaccine was being touted as the great saviour of mankind about three weeks ago - since when it has barely merited a mention. Who are all the people who are being vaccinated, and why aren't we now hearing about them? If they are being vaccinated in their thousands, why are we still talking about lockdowns?

Sorry - not meaning to rant at you personally, @Belladonna12 I am just feeling completely despairing!

Because there’s 3.5 million people in the over 80s group alone, there’s many millions more in the other groups!
sortmylifeoutplease · 29/12/2020 19:31

@Catsneezies

I think schools need to close. But I think the government will keep primaries open (secondaries online except for Y11 and Y13) until the rates go sky high, we have 1000+ deaths a day and hospitals are turning people away, and then they will close primaries as well as secondaries.
This.

Mixing households is not allowed anyway , where I live it's not been allowed since July . So a curfew is pointless as those that still ignore will carry on . In fact a curfew will be worse in my opinion, some people like to go to the supermarket late to avoid the queue, exercise etc so a curfew will just push those people into those times . So it put a 8pm curfew to stop people going out on nye so we all suffer nah .
Littleposh · 29/12/2020 19:58

I predict mumsnet becomes hysterical, more so than normal

It was a prediction (guess) not a recommendation. Agree it could only actually work if roads etc were policed.

Which it won't be so no curfew!!

LastTrainEast · 29/12/2020 20:16

@Armi

They won’t close schools. They want parents in work and are happy to kill school staff to accomplish this.
You want parents in work too. Think it through.

As an experiment let's send everyone home for the day. 24 hours with no electricity or water, no hospitals, no ambulances, no police and no shops. Anyone think that is a good idea?

The trick is to find some point in between and whatever you choose has consequences AND upsets someone.

notimagain · 29/12/2020 20:49

Of course no internet or comms (including mobiles) as well..so there goes WFH...

I’m convinced some people think our whole infrastructure (which including utilities) is held together by pixie dust.

LadyFlumpalot · 29/12/2020 20:53

God I hope the schools don't close again. I seriously considered just driving into a tree around the beginning of June just so I could, well, I don't even know. I just wanted to stop. Me to stop. Everything to stop.

Between full time homeschooling two primary kids who didn't want to do any of it, one of which has ADHD and Aspergers, working full time on a demanding project that requires near constant attention and phone calls from home, doing the normal house stuff and doing all the childcare... all by myself as husband got to go into work as he's a manufacturing type bod.

Yes, I know loads of people had it worse, lucky to have a job etc.

justanotherneighinparadise · 29/12/2020 21:01

My DP would walk in to me crying on the kitchen floor most days during lockdown. That’s how well that went for us. I’ve decided I don’t care anymore if my seven year old doesn’t engage. I’m
done with it. I shall concentrate on my little one and the school can deal with it at a later date.
