Do you think tier five will happen

Or just just being said as scare tactic? What else could they really stop people doing?

@AgentCooper

It’s rubbish isn’t it. My almost two year old has spent almost half of her life with some form of lockdown in place.

She doesn’t start nursery until two, so I was totally reliant on playgroups, family and friends to socialise her. All cancelled now. We’re in a flat with no garden.

Even with the crap weather, parks are a lifeline for us. So was meeting up with a small bubble of family.

In her first year she LOVED meeting other people, going to baby groups. She has since become very clingy to me.

When this is all over I think governments all over the world will have questions to answer about the fairness of confining young children to tiny flats. Many older or “vulnerable” people I know do not believe my child should be imprisoned in their name.

I am technically in a vulnerable group with asthma by the way, but am a million times more worried about the harm lockdown is doing to my toddler than the small risk of covid.
@SimonJT in my experience, if you have a dog then you don't have a nice lawn 🤣 (looking at Grundydog here).

I imagine very few people without outside space have a dog, but as I said, i don't agree with the idea of curfews. I think efforts should be going into ensuring social distancing in shops, limiting who can go into a shop (not two adults together), wearing masks in outside spaces etc. Me taking my dog for a walk at 10pm poses very little risk. Me not following social distancing in Tesco poses a much bigger one.
Ah, is it more mudied and dug up lawn?

I live in London, lots of city based dog owners don’t have gardens.

Feministicon · 29/12/2020 20:18

Rightly or wrongly loads of people with flats and no gardens have dogs.

Are parents being selfish expecting elderly grandparents to do childcare? I look after my grandaughter as her mum is a nurse and her dad is a police officer. They do shifts 24/7. Childcare is only available Monday to Friday 7.30 to 6pm. What are parents supposed to do?

Leedsfan247 · 29/12/2020 20:26

Quite probably the numbers of Covid patients in hospital is currently well above the first wave.
New Years Eve should definitely be cancelled

It pretty much is, though isn't it? Most places are tier 3 or 4 and no mixing allowed. If people stick to it or not is another question. I think most will.
bemusedmoose · 29/12/2020 20:33

Tier 5 would be lockdown like before.

If people stuck to the rules and the government stopped faffing about - this new strain wouldnt have started. The whole point of lockdown and distancing was to slow the spread and by slowing the spread you stop it mutating.

So lockdown will happen again thanks to a stupid government and selfish public.

What do you mean ‘cancelled’? Only people in tier 1 are allowed to socialise with other households. The 31st December happens regardless.

Just as an addendum to my original post, watching telly and have just seen a travel firm advertising ‘jab and go’ holidays. You couldn’t make this shit up !! Have a test and go on holiday. That’ll make it all better then will it ? Having a test before you go will ensure that you don’t bring the virus home with you, will it ? Until we stop this kind of nonsense we’ll get nowhere.
Presumably if you can test before you go , you could also test on return or before boarding on your way back ?

I would imagine that most grandparents doing childcare are not what I would describe as 'elderly' .

confuseddotcom090 · 29/12/2020 20:59

Other governments in Europe have had their people toeing the line, because the people can appreciate that things have to be done, and will get on with it.

So in which other countries did these hardcore lockdowns work then? Spain? Italy? Belgium? Peru?

Check out their death rates.

Frazzled50 · 29/12/2020 21:03

Oh let’s just skip tier 5 and go on to full house arrest with tags/tracking devices and only a drone for company on daily exercise. I for one am dreading going back to work as I work 1-1 with a year 6 pupil with behaviour issues and the South Coast ( Hampshire) is now over and way way above expected figures. I know of 7 families within our close of 21 houses who have all tested positive including children between 4-12 years of age also like many of you their are multiple known cases among my family and friends. This new covid strain seems to have hit harder and faster and it doesn’t seem to give a flying F**K who you are, your age or health conditions.
My husband has practically been shielding since March and we’ve followed all the rules stringently including having little contact with our daughter and her partner just to keep him safe .
Since schools went back I’ve worked full time with the little germ balls and despite all the hygiene measures we have in place to keep them safe in class bubbles there are quite a few upper school pupils who in my opinion don’t give a shit they meet up in large groups at the parks, have sleepovers and generally disregard any advice we give them at school and sent out to parents.
If I hear oh the poor souls need their education and it’s all about their mental health and well-being I’m gonna scream wtf about our mental health, well-being and the safety of ourselves and families. We don’t have ppe, there are 2or3 adults in a room with 32 children , only cold water taps in about half the classrooms, kids running riot knowing theirs little we can do, parents sending their darlings in while siblings or other family members have symptoms or are waiting on results of tests... I’d be quite happy to go back to the lockdown times smaller classes with key worker children, SEN and vulnerable children etc if parents can and want to home school then why not and why are they being fined for doing so if their child is on track and happy isn’t that better for them ?
Oh I’m going to shh now and wait for the MN trolls to jump on and reply about the economy the poor parents who can’t cope with home schooling their offspring blah blah

Frazzled50 · 29/12/2020 21:07

Ooo and quick before the grammar police come for me * and kids running riot knowing there’s little we can do,

Clusterfckintolerant · 29/12/2020 21:40

No idea what BJ will announce for rumoured Tier 5, moot without real enforcement of basic precautions anyway. We've got the worst figures in the UK and our local supermarkets are free-for-alls.

My tier 5 hope is that BJ has a stern word with the big chain bosses.

MazAds · 29/12/2020 21:49

@Letseatgrandma

I’m sure primary schools will still be open in Tier 5, though...
I caught Covid working in a Primary from a 7 year old...I’m still struggling a month later...it’s all lies that kids don’t spread it. Us school staff have been thrown to the wolves by Boris 😢
Meredithgrey1 · 29/12/2020 21:57

We have followed the rules of tier 4 but thanks to others who don’t my whole household has tested positive for Covid.

Unless you know you caught it from someone who walked up and coughed in your face, I don’t see how you can say you caught it despite following the rules, but the person you caught it from must have broken the rules. Maybe they were also like you? And maybe the person they caught it from was as well? Your post seems evidence that you can catch it despite following all the rules, yet you seem to be arguing that if everyone followed the rules, no one would catch it.

I think its discusting that you have been led to believe that primary school children don't spread the virus!!! How on earth do they think its ok to pull the wool over teachers eyes like that.. i never believed it.. what a load of crap.. how is it even physically possible for every other human to spread it but not 4-10 year olds makea no sense whatsoever and you all deserve a pay rise as well as NHS staff and other essential workers that are putting their health on the line

tiers4fears · 29/12/2020 22:16

100% we will be locking down again

Oscarsdaddy · 29/12/2020 22:42

@InTheLongGrass

Tier 5 - schools shut, one exercise trip a day, and not to leave local area - defined as same first half of pistcode.
Basically it will be same as original lockdown with schools closed too

Thank you for understanding xx We were also told masks weren’t allowed in classrooms too and that if we really wanted to wear them in shared areas we could, but either wear them always or not at all, no picking and choosing!

@Bunty1958 my parents (65 and 66) look after my three year old DS on the three days a week that I work. From March to August I was furloughed because informal childcare wasn’t allowed in Scotland at the time. I’ve asked my parents repeatedly if they ever feel they’d be safer not doing it but they want to have DS. DS is meant to start nursery in January but there’s no confirmed date for new starts yet because of tier 4 so if I didn’t have my parents I wouldn’t be working. I’m incredibly grateful to them.
Kentonian12 · 29/12/2020 23:20

Other countries have been more successful than us at controlling Covid-19 since day one. Dubai was sending rule breakers to prison if anyone was in breach. The penalties here were just like a slap on the wrist. It is like we are at war with this virus you need to be on top of it but now we are having to react again as it has the upper hand. We are practically at lockdown three because of the virus has spread like wildfire so what else can we do to stop it. I feel sad that so many Christmases have been spoilt and so many lives have been lost especially at this time of year. It is a dreadful situation for all of us.
