Do you think tier five will happen

Or just just being said as scare tactic? What else could they really stop people doing?

According to the DM the meeting is happening tonight... announcement tomorrow afternoon

justanotherneighinparadise · 29/12/2020 19:26

@Nasta

Have you been outside ?? I work retail - hardly anyone is sticking to tier 4 rules. Full family’s shopping - buying stuff that is seriously not essential, still socially meeting friends , hardly anyone wearing a mask is wearing it correctly!! No social distancing! It’s comical- tier 5. Shut everything except the supermarkets -
Errrm I am! I didn’t even see my mother on Christmas Day it since. So please don’t tar everyone with the same brush.
Rubyrubyrubyred · 29/12/2020 19:29

@Yetithesnowwoman expect leaks from about 10pm then

Alltheprettyseahorses · 29/12/2020 19:31

Post offices will have to stay open for gas and electricity prepay topups no matter what lockdown tier we end up in.

pam290358 · 29/12/2020 19:33

@ SimonJT. I didn’t say train, I said recruit and draft in the armed forces medical services. What is the point of spending all that money setting up the nightingale hospitals if they are unusable - that was my point ?

Meredithgrey1 · 29/12/2020 19:35

@fordk

we should go into tier 5 due to the small number of people not following the rules and we should enforce a 7pm cerfew except for people who need to go to work and if people are in the street after 7pm without a very good reason fine them £200 every time they are caught may then we can get to grip with covid-19 also make it law that every one who is outside of their home os car must wear a face mask come on britain lets all get a grip to over come this virus
What would this achieve? Some vulnerable people prefer to shop in the evenings when it’s quieter. A curfew would force everyone to shop in the same hours.

That still wouldn’t provide enough staff.

Staff for the nightingales was always the flaw as the government was relying in staff volunteering in blocks of 3/4 days alongside their usual jobs.

pam290358 · 29/12/2020 19:37

Just as an addendum to my original post, watching telly and have just seen a travel firm advertising ‘jab and go’ holidays. You couldn’t make this shit up !! Have a test and go on holiday. That’ll make it all better then will it ? Having a test before you go will ensure that you don’t bring the virus home with you, will it ? Until we stop this kind of nonsense we’ll get nowhere.

Have any of the posters so keen for total lockdown spent a year socially distancing with a toddler in a small flat? Where the toddler doesn’t attend nursery. Extended lockdowns for the under threes is practically child abuse, when they are not in nursery or other childcare. Their little brains grow so much in these early years and what are they learning - that the world is confined to a tiny environment and a tiny number of people? And that everyone else in the world must avoid each other and wear masks. How the hell are you meant to socialise them under these circumstances?

Keep the parks open and let parents of toddlers mix with a small container bubble of people - anything else is inhumane.

It is totally different if your toddler is in nursery as they are getting a change of scene. But this isn’t an option for a lot of families.

Also wondering if any strict lockdown supporters are:

  • trapped in a flat share with people they hate?
  • facing unemployment and no money with a lockdown?

Highly doubt it somehow.

Those in lockdown with kids in school/nursery, who can work from home really don’t have it so bad. And they’re usually the ones on here preaching and virtue signalling about strict lockdowns.

And no, before any of you lockdown enthusiasts accuses me of this, it’s not that I don’t care about deaths and other people.

The vulnerable and those who want to should totally be supported to shield.

I just don’t believe all of these lockdowns are necessary to stop the nhs failing. There is so much more medical knowledge on how to treat covid now.

Duemarch2021 · 29/12/2020 19:46

Its just all a fucking joke now 😭 im all for protecting everyone and have stuck to rules since day 1... even got overly obsessed.. but now i give up. I dont even know what the tiers mean... i live on the border to england and wales and have half friends family in England and pther half in wales. My preferred shop is in england (i live in Wales) if i go 2 mins one way im in england ... id have to know the rules of both countries to make sure im doing it right and i frankly dont have the time or energy anymore to read the gov website or watch the news in between trying ro organise for a baby, finish uni work online which is extremely confusing for me as no access to tutors and battling anxiety/ depression... i do what i need to do now... fuck it all. I will wear a mask and wash my hand and keep my distance. If i want to drive out to walk on the beach i will. If i fancy going to sainsburys up the road (over the boarder) instead of asda then i will.. what fucking difference will that make.. i will pay a fine. My mental health is coming first from now on. Theres been too much messing around

Meredithgrey1 · 29/12/2020 19:47

Shut everything except the supermarkets

These suggestions are nonsensical. How would shutting, say, boots, help? Force everyone who gets their prescriptions from there to go to the supermarket, making it more crowded, with longer pharmacy queues.

Duemarch2021 · 29/12/2020 19:48

Hands* lol i do have two

Ilovewatermelon · 29/12/2020 19:48

@Someonetookmyname

Agree 100%

EmmaGrundyForPM · 29/12/2020 19:52

I think it's very problematic to try to enforce a lockdown when the virus is so out of control. Australia put a very strict lockdown in place in Melbourne when the cases were very low, and it worked, although it took several weeks. We are in a completely different scenario.

I would be fine on a personal level with a "total" lockdown where I was only allowed to leave the house for food, doctor or exercise. But DH and I can wfh, have space to set up work stations, and have grown up DC. It's a completely different thing if you're in a small flat with toddlers.

Splodgetastic · 29/12/2020 19:54

Outside exercise allowed as long it's from home (no travelling anywhere) Makes literally no sense. No travelling as in no driving, no cycling, no walking? So just star jumps on the pavement outside my house?

AgentCooper · 29/12/2020 19:55

@Someonetookmyname I agree. It was hideous when the playparks were shut. My three year old DS hasn’t been in an environment with other toddlers for any decent length of time since March as his toddler group never restarted. Walks in the park with friends with toddlers was the only possibility but even at that the weather was so grim that people would often call off.

He’s due to start nursery in January and tbh I’m terrified. He’s a bad one for separation anxiety and has been glued to me all year.

HappyBirthdayJC · 29/12/2020 19:56

Would tier 5 be like all non essential shops closed and curfew from 8pm - 6am? No mixing of households and no outdoor exercise or meetings with other households?

If yes, welcome to Northern Ireland!

EmmaGrundyForPM · 29/12/2020 19:57

@SimonJT
How do you suggest dogs don’t have a wee or poo after 8pm? I mean, I can tell him not to, but I’m fairly certain his language skills are somewhat lacking.

I don't support the idea of timed curfews, but if it did happen then surely your dog can pee in your garden?

Could you supply me some directions to this imaginery garden?

Does it have a nice lawn, or is it more patio and pots?

EmmaGrundyForPM · 29/12/2020 20:05

@SimonJT in my experience, if you have a dog then you don't have a nice lawn 🤣 (looking at Grundydog here).

I imagine very few people without outside space have a dog, but as I said, i don't agree with the idea of curfews. I think efforts should be going into ensuring social distancing in shops, limiting who can go into a shop (not two adults together), wearing masks in outside spaces etc. Me taking my dog for a walk at 10pm poses very little risk. Me not following social distancing in Tesco poses a much bigger one.

islockdownoveryet · 29/12/2020 20:06

Where has this suggestion of a curfew come from ? Made up on Mumsnet !!

MistletoeandGin · 29/12/2020 20:09

We lived with our dog for 5 years without a garden (we have one now). It was fine, we took him out 5 times a day at least.

MadameBlobby · 29/12/2020 20:10

@yphtutor

The problem stems from selfishness, ignorance and a complete disregard for others. It really is not rocket science tier 4 just stay at home within that household. We have followed the rules of tier 4 but thanks to others who don’t my whole household has tested positive for Covid. How many of you mixed with other households over the Christmas period, we didn’t! We have our shopping delivered in the main and have only ventured out for milk and bread that was before our symptoms became apparent. Since then we immediately isolated our family from each other in the house all over Christmas and it wasn’t great but a sacrifice that needed to be made. I can agree that the symptoms aren’t pleasant and I sincerely hope all you selfish, stupid people who disregarded the rules with no regard to your own or others safety will not get it. However as you obviously can’t control yourselves and continue to flout the tier 4 restrictions I fear that is a vain hope. Watch out for the even more massive spike in about 10 days time! The Nightingale Hospital is shut because so many NHS staff are sick with Covid they can’t staff it!
I’m really sorry you all got Covid but you can’t possible know you got it off someone not following the rules. Also you might have infected others, they might say the same about you.
MistletoeandGin · 29/12/2020 20:10

(We lived abroad (centre of Madrid) where it was very common to have pets and no outside space).

How on earth do you know you caught it off people not following the rules? Confused. Genuinely baffled.
People have to work. Take public transport. Shop. Go to medical appointments. Care for relatives. All perfectly legal activities, but all a risk for catching it.
