Do you think tier five will happen

Or just just being said as scare tactic? What else could they really stop people doing?

OP posts:
Sockwomble · 29/12/2020 18:36

Travelling from home for exercise was allowed in March.

Oblomov20 · 29/12/2020 18:36

Other than closing schools, I can't see what will change from our tier 4, to a 5. All our non essential shops are already closed.

Seeing the incessant face mask on chin-wearing, rule benders makes me want to scream!! Chavs using store workers inability to ask them to wear a mask because they think they’re ‘ard! Family days out at at the local supermarket are the reasons we are in this mess!! I know families who went ahead with their Christmas Day plans yet scoffing that it’s unsafe to send their kids to school twits! The hypocrisy, chavs and self entitled idiots are why Kent is heading for T5!!!!

I've had a bee in my bonnet about the nearest garden centre. It's had a sale on and been completely rammed all week. (Tier 4)
nosswith · 29/12/2020 18:40

If we had a police force that had not been reduced in size over the last few years and were being engaged by the government as to the practicalities of enforcement, then a curfew could achieve something. Simple to enforce, a permit system for those who are travelling to and from work or certain ID be shown (medical staff will have it, for example).

However, we don't.

Nasta · 29/12/2020 18:41

Have you been outside ?? I work retail - hardly anyone is sticking to tier 4 rules. Full family’s shopping - buying stuff that is seriously not essential, still socially meeting friends , hardly anyone wearing a mask is wearing it correctly!! No social distancing! It’s comical- tier 5. Shut everything except the supermarkets -

I think they need to scrap these ‘Tiers’ for the time being as it is clear that the rules aren’t being followed and they are not working hence the booming case rates. I had to go out today to pick up a prescription and the roads were chocka block! During lockdown they were extremely quiet. My view is that people are fatigued and bored and the fear factor has gone so people are bending the rules (and a few stupid covid deniers disregarding them completely). The government messaging and lockdown needs to be of the same severity as March otherwise we will have a complete national catastrophe on our hands.

islockdownoveryet · 29/12/2020 18:43

When are people going to stop blaming others for catching Covid .
If you've caught it you must of gone somewhere to catch it .
So many don't have symptoms so go to work / shops etc but are spreading it unaware they have it . It's a virus that's what a virus does it spreads .People keep saying thanks to a selfish person I caught Covid but they may have been unaware they had it and spread it .

Soulstirring · 29/12/2020 18:44

I’m in tier 2 and there have been huge amounts of people travelling into our town to drink (cause trouble) after consuming a sausage roll (meal). I think a lock down for all is needed

caspersmagicaljourney · 29/12/2020 18:44

CJB1234 Why are people so stupid

Sadly we can't fix stupid.😉

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 29/12/2020 18:45

Shut everything except the supermarkets

Leave the small corner shops open. We ran out of milk today so DH went to the corner shop to get some. He was the only one in there and was in and out within a couple of minutes. To go to the supermarket would have meant a car journey and mixing with god knows how many other people.

Someonetookmyname · 29/12/2020 18:47

In the last peak, in just over three weeks, between the 2nd and 23rd of April 26,566 British people died of covid.

If you believe the reporting of covid deaths back then. Which has widely been discredited.

UnmentionedElephantDildo · 29/12/2020 18:48

I think they're going to have to do something pretty drastic and now

People mixed over Christmas, often in groups who were not meeting in daily life. They may have bent the rules a bit, but let's assume that most people were back home by 26/27th.

New Year is a week after Christmas. People who caught covid are likely to become symptomatic 5-7 days on, being infectious in the 48 hours beforehand and in the first couple of days of symptoms.

This means the peak of post Xmas infectiousness is about now, peaking in the coming 2-3 days. Including NYE.

It could be quite a double whammy if NYE mingling happened

Yogalola · 29/12/2020 19:03

Total lockdown at the moment is the only way to save lives. Too many people are going into other tiers so they can shop , get a drink or eat out. Wales is in tier 4 and even then they don’t stay home, Brecon car parks have been reported full, if I was in charge I’d slap every car with a fine for travelling for non essential reasons. Hospitals are inundated with COVID cases, all hospital staff need vaccinations to keep them safe. We all need to obey and ensure our families especially the youngsters conform. I live in a low risk area but I will accept lockdown if it means life will get back to normal quicker. We Brits are tough and must make sure we stand together to save as many lives as possible and also who wants to experience long COVID ?

Fizbosshoes · 29/12/2020 19:04

The Nightingale Hospital is shut because so many NHS staff are sick with Covid they can’t staff it!

I dont think there was ever enough staff for the Nightingale hospitals.

Zoejj77 · 29/12/2020 19:08

There’s millions of people abiding by all the guidelines- just a few hundred thousand across the UK, that don’t, is what’s ruining it for us all.

I can’t understand why essential shops don’t have more stringent entry policy ie a hair salon takes your temp wear full PPE etc (appreciate they touch you) but supermarkets let in anyone in any amount no mask no temp check etc I feel they could be held more accountable as they are taking in the money while so many sectors are facing collapse. Mum dad and 2 teenagers don’t need to be shopping together etc checking of ID for where you live would have helped Tier 3 areas not be forced in to Tier 4 by selfish Christmas shoppers.

I can’t see it ending unless more measures are put in place

caringcarer · 29/12/2020 19:10

Today over 51,000 new cases. Tier 4 is not enough to hold the virus. I think it is inevitable all go into Tier 4 and some in South East into Tier 5 with no takeaways, places of worship, playground or parks open and only leave house for 1 hour of local excercise each day. Possibly schools closed and home learning in tier 5 too. Basically like first national lockdown. With virus raging through South East I don't think the government have a choice. That vaccine just can't come quickly enough. I think the Army are going to assist in jabbing people. I think the death toll will be sky high on 3-4 weeks. It seems worse about 4 weeks after high figures in new cases. We have not had Xmas spike yet either.

Tier 4 has only been in existence for 8 days. It is far too soon to say that it doesn’t work. Many cases being reported today will have been transmitted before tier 4 was a thing. Don’t forget that London were in tier 2 just over a week ago, mixing in bars and restaurants.
notherchge · 29/12/2020 19:19

people who have not been following the rules will be exempt from tier 5 as they are obviously immune,

pam290358 · 29/12/2020 19:22

I think a better question would be given the current situation, why are the much publicised Nightingale hospitals not being utilised ? Remember the numerous news reports heralding the rapid production of ventilators to equip them ? Were they just a red herring designed to avoid public panic ? If there were not enough NHS staff to operate them at the time they were put together, the government has had plenty of time since to draft in the armed forces and mount a serious recruitment drive. Nothing has been done, despite the fact that it was widely known that winter conditions would spread the virus faster, and yet these hospitals are standing empty while the NHS is being overwhelmed, we’re seeing unprecedented levels of Covid 19 infections, other serious conditions are going untreated and the ambulance service is close to collapse. Also unhelpful is the fact that travel in and out of the country hasn’t been banned - we’ve all seen the chaos caused at Dover by the French PM trying to avoid an outbreak of the new strain and despite this, it was brought into France on a scheduled flight. Sport seems to have started up again and now we have Everton football club cancelling all fixtures due to a Covid outbreak. We don’t seem to have a government capable of putting together a coherent plan and I think they are now running the risk of a public rebellion against yet more restrictions, given that the situation has become worse despite the rules already imposed - and frankly the nonsensical nature of some of these restrictions doesn’t help either.

I agree with you on shops. I was in Asda getting my Christmas shop last week and it was carnage. Rather than banning people leaving their houses for more than an hour a day how about legislation limiting numbers in supermarkets, enforcing social distancing, 1 way systems etc.
