Absolutely know that it's a safety and efficacy thing based on percentages. As they all are.

We still don't know the data from all the trials of AZ. They were only sent to MHRA just before Christmas I believe.

IcedPurple · 29/12/2020 20:56

Anyway I’m done

Seems not.

Yes my Dh though frequently potentially exposed and cev probably will be after the Pfizer cut off.

But, as has been frequently stated, there's not much point having fab efficacy for Pfizer or any others, if it's tricky to roll out. Europe are having quite a few issues with their roll out.

There will a percentage of people who won't get a good immune response from any of the vaccines, can't take them or won't take them.

The percentages rely on the number of people being vaccinated in a timely manner plus efficacy.

I can't see why people still aren't getting this. Unless they only care about their personal protection?

Oaktree55 · 29/12/2020 21:02

@tobee because that only works if vaccines stop transmission (as yet limited/no data)

IcedPurple · 29/12/2020 21:02
@IcedPurple Jesus people can’t handle debate. Yes I’ll comment when something is incorrect.
So why the dramatic 'I'm done' flounce?

Wakeupin2022 · 29/12/2020 21:03

Oak so what is the transmission rate for Pfizer?

Oaktree55 · 29/12/2020 21:06

@Wakeupin2022 not measured

Sunshinegirl82 · 29/12/2020 21:07

So your position is that we should all be very angry with the government because we do not have enough supplies of Pfizer? What difference will that practically make? Will it magic up more doses of Pfizer? Or make Novavax ready?

It is Oxford or nothing for months. Waiting months has significant risks when the population likely to tolerate restrictions for only a limited further period. We are where we are.

In any event all of this conjecture regarding Oxford/the vaccine is premature because no decision has yet been made for certain either on Oxford itself or on who will receive which vaccine.

Oaktree55 · 29/12/2020 21:09

@Sunshinegirl82 yes we could order more as others are doing. I believe the decision is made Pfizer is being distributed to vulnerable in accordance with priority. Issue is it’ll run out soon (way below expected order). Yes I do think we should all be up in arms.

Wakeupin2022 · 29/12/2020 21:10

TheSun I can understand why you see it as a Government body & question if you can trust it.

I am coming from a different perspective and have never had any reason not to trust it, even though I don't support or trust our current government.

It should be independent though. I think the fact that most Brits on this thread have faith in it should stand for something.

Oaktree55 · 29/12/2020 21:12

@Wakeupin2022 seriously you honestly would trust something because anonymous Brits on Mumsnet do? Have you researched the Oxford Trial?

Wakeupin2022 · 29/12/2020 21:13

Oak are you worried about the capability of Pfizer to stop transmission since there is 0 data available?

That is one of my annoyances. You have targeted Oxford on more than one occasion for not stopping transmission but not once have you questioned or criticised Pfizer. Not very balanced and also not a great example of critical thinking?

tobee · 29/12/2020 21:13
@tobee because that only works if vaccines stop transmission (as yet limited/no data)
Well that's the same with all of them right now

Sunshinegirl82 · 29/12/2020 21:13

We could order more Pfizer (perhaps we still will) but what is the likelihood we could actually get our hands on it before the Summer? I'd imagine there is a reasonable amount of demand?

Ordering more Pfizer doesn't alter the fundamental position. Oxford in the next month or nothing for several months. That is reality and all the outrage in the world won't change it.

Wakeupin2022 · 29/12/2020 21:14

Oak I don't not trust the experts cause some random on Mumsnet thinks they know better!

Oaktree55 · 29/12/2020 21:14

The MHRA are independent but as I keep saying their remit isn’t “please sanction the best vaccine for the U.K.”

Wakeupin2022 · 29/12/2020 21:14

Sunshine it seems only non critical thinkers can come to that conclusion!

Wakeupin2022 · 29/12/2020 21:16

Oak i was replying to Sun there.

She was questioning the integrity of the MHRA because its a government body.

tobee · 29/12/2020 21:16

What about the difficulties that other countries are having with distribution of Pfizer? And allergic reactions? No matter how many Pfizer we have they won't be able to roll it out as fast. We don't have others yet. Oxford Vaccine is still only theoretical at this point. It is an emergency

tobee · 29/12/2020 21:17

@Oaktree55

The MHRA are independent but as I keep saying their remit isn’t “please sanction the best vaccine for the U.K.”

Depends on your definition of best.

Oaktree55 · 29/12/2020 21:18

@Wakeupin2022 I’ve never said Pfizer stops transmission. It’s not measured. It’s had a better trial with more vulnerable/minorities and expert opinion seems to be due to its greater efficacy it’s more likely to stop transmission (although not measured yet).

tobee · 29/12/2020 21:19

It wasn't testing trial participants weekly. It was relying on self reporting.

Oaktree55 · 29/12/2020 21:20

@tobee the allergic reactions are minimal and easily treated. I’d be more concerned over the Transverse Myelitis cases with Oxford.
