@laudemio

Right let's get back to the data...

Are the numbers from the last few days fully adjusted now,or is there more data to come?

I think still more probably, certainly for the last 2-3 days, in terms of cases by specimen date.

TBH i think most of the data this week on a day to day basis will be hard to really interpret properly as there was basically a 4 day holiday in the middle which messed up both people's behaviours re.testing as well as reporting cycles. PHE are due quite a backlog of deaths from the last few days for example I think. It'll all take a few days to shake out, at which point we'll be just getting to the point where the mixing at Christmas will be coming out in testing (if it does).

@Oaktree55

The only response I’d like is people engaged in reality. I’m sorry if I’m frustrated but I’ve been in reality since last April when most are in denial and still are!
This isn’t true, it’s really not no matter how many times you say it. I don’t know why you are convinced it is.

But goodo there’s a new thread to discuss it so all good

Denial can work both ways

@Oaktree55

Jesus people have heads well and truly in sand!!! Let’s all discuss data shall we, data that can’t get changed eg how many dead but let’s all ignore the elephant in the room. Crikey!

I mean...let's remember we are one thread on Mumsnet.

We have exactly zero sway over the vaccine strategy and zero influence.

So it's a bit too much of a moot point to get het up about whether people agree or not. It makes not one jot of difference either way.

@Oaktree55

I've just come on and read through the thread. The vaccine is an interesting one to discuss, but I think it would be better in a separate thread. Vaccine data perhaps? I would certainly be interested in that.

But one thing you're often missing from your comments is reliable /peer reviewed data links. I'm sure you have put some, but I would expect from what you've written, you to understand that for other people to agree, evidence is important.

You're not someone I've particularly spotted as posting a lot on these threads over the time, although maybe you've name changed, so it's coming across as you coming to have an agenda. You might also like to know that, although you say you're pro-vaccine, what you're actually writing comes across as anti-vaccine to me. I certainly think if I was feeling nervous about having it, then some of your comments would tip me into not getting it.

As an aside, I wonder if @MNHQ would consider adding "Fake News" to their reporting in line with places like FB. There is a lot of fake news given out as fact here, and you can see it propagating as people repeat what they've read on the site elsewhere. Or be prepared to add (like Twitter) This fact is disputed.
If I read again there have only really been 377 deaths or 90% false positives then MN owes me a new computer screen...

Oaktree55 · 29/12/2020 19:09

@umpteennamechanges exactly but the way people have behaved today 🤯

umpteennamechanges · 29/12/2020 19:10

@Oaktree55

68,000 people dead. Do you know how many terrorist attacks that is? Details like the right vaccine matter. Soon it’ll be your parent/spouse/grandparent.

Get your heads out of your arses and think not play data games on stupid mumsnet threads. These are peoples lives we’re playing with.

It’s not a drill. Hope you’re all proud.

We(?) are literally not playing with lives.

We're just women, sitting on sofas in the main I expect.

I think you're somewhat losing the fact that it is totally irrelevant what any of us think about the vaccine.

Wakeupin2022 · 29/12/2020 19:10

@Oaktree55

68,000 people have died. Think about that in terms of terrorist attacks. For those of you detached, that’ll be someone you know soon. Get your heads out your fucking arses and think what data really means. It’s people dying, someone’s mum/dad/grandparent. Decisions like those re Oxford.

Unfucking believable. Hope you enjoy your “data” !

Yes! Lots of people have died.

We can't vaccinate people fast enough with Pfizer. We know people are getting fed up. There is only so much longer the majority Will follow the rules.

We are up against it big time.

Oxford may not be a solution but it has the potential to make things a whole lot better in a relatively short timescale if we can get 1/2 million vaccinated every week.

The majority of the population is not at risk, but we need to get hospitalizations down as soon as possible and Oxford will help with that.

And the more people who get vaccinated, the fewer infections we have.

Maybe I am naive and don't go searching the Internet for people who agree with me. I trust the experts on this. And will continue to do so.

Oaktree55 · 29/12/2020 19:11

@Witchend re your passive aggressive thread nothing I’ve posted isn’t supported by expert opinion. Personally I find verified expert opinion more reliable than unverified mumsnet accounts interpreting data??!

GetOffYourHighHorse · 29/12/2020 19:12

'Get your heads out of your arses and think not play data games on stupid mumsnet threads. These are peoples lives we’re playing with. It’s not a drill. Hope you’re all proud.'

Proud of what?!

Look, you're on a 'stupid mumsnet' thread too.

I know it is a worrying time but I suggest you calm down, perhaps do some deep breathing and leave people to discuss whatever the fuck they like.

Oaktree55 · 29/12/2020 19:12

@Wakeupin2022 you’re assuming Oxford works. That’s my whole point!!!!!! If I were confident it worded I would t bother posting!

Oaktree55 · 29/12/2020 19:14

I know /appreciate this whole thread is pointless and meaningless (I’ve caveated my posts several times)

Wakeupin2022 · 29/12/2020 19:15

Oak i am not assuming it works. I am assuming that the ones deciding whether to approve it or not habe sufficient expertise to know if they should do so or not!

So far the noises have been positive. Although we are still awaiting approval.

If its not approved, then quite simply we are fucked!

Pfizer/ Moderna isn't going to get us out if this.

Oaktree55 · 29/12/2020 19:15

There are way too many (obviously educated) people on here. Rely on verifiable data not here. That’s partly my frustration.

IcedPurple · 29/12/2020 19:16

You're not someone I've particularly spotted as posting a lot on these threads over the time, although maybe you've name changed, so it's coming across as you coming to have an agenda.

Oaktree's agenda is a bit like the Great Wall of China - it can be seen clearly from outer space.

tobee · 29/12/2020 19:17

My Dh is extremely clinically vulnerable, on dialysis three times a week at a clinic for 4 hours. I take it very fucking seriously. I'll listen to what the MHRA say. And other countries approval bodies. Not Twitter links to journalists.

Oaktree55 · 29/12/2020 19:17

@Wakeupin2022 Jesus they only have to approve > 50% not what’s best for U.K. Thats entire point of my rants. Then approving means v little for U.K. situation all we can glean is it’s >50% efficacious and safe.

laudemio · 29/12/2020 19:17

Thanks @patriciaholm that makes sense. It also suggests to me the tier announcement tomorrow won't be dramatic changes. I think that will come later in the week as the picture clears. I hope I am wrong.

Oaktree55 · 29/12/2020 19:19

My agenda is purely let’s please engage in critical thinking!!!

laudemio · 29/12/2020 19:20

Incidentally we are in the SE and covid patients now make up 25% of the hospitals capacity. Their numbers have doubled in the last week. It is getting very serious.

IcedPurple · 29/12/2020 19:20

@Oaktree55

My agenda is purely let’s please engage in critical thinking!!!
Have you considered applying that advice to your own posts?
tobee · 29/12/2020 19:20

Ranting does not equal critical thinking.
