Just that really.
They've been kind and given us Christmas Day and Boxing Day off.
But, they will make an announcement, soon. Right?

We need to do what Australia and new zealand did.. close borders and do a full on lock down until no more new cases.. i think most people would be happy go get it all over in one serious lock down that lasts a few months than stipping and starting over the course of a few years.. businesses that are being affected surely arnt benefiting from being able to open then close again like they have for the last 10 months surely?... am i wrong?

@CauliflowerCheese30

Someone I work with, already knows that she will be shielding for 3 weeks, because she knows of someone who has already received a letter for it and so thinks she'll also be getting one, anyone else heard this?
Dh has received an email telling him to shield until 16th January. He received that last week sometime.

Also, as dc are to be working online with school until 11th we may well keep them off until 16th too so as to protect dh as much as we can.

@LitPeach

The sooner the better! I’m in tier 4 and there are no signs of any lockdown here.

Roads jammed with cars, people out and about as normal walking round parks and sitting on benches. Neighbours popping to the shops for wine and gin Hmm

We need a proper lockdown- no one leaves home at all unless a key worker. Supermarkets shut with food drops provided by the army. £10,000 fines for non key workers caught outside.

Even then I suspect some people would still ‘need’ to pop out for a bottle of Prosecco Hmm

I saw someone put their bin out earlier!!
DecemberDiana · 26/12/2020 23:01

In Scotland and we are not allowed anywhere bar essential shops for 3 weeks! Schools back for most children 18th January, having a week online from Jan 11th. And our prevalence rate is lower than England and Wales to start off with.

designmama · 26/12/2020 23:01

More livelihoods will be ruined also as some parents won’t be able to work as they will have their children off school and therefore can’t work. For some children school is their only sense of routine and a place to feel nurtured.

Spiratedaway · 26/12/2020 23:02

@LobotheBotanist

Full country in lockdown on 29th I reckon
I think so for a month or more and actually past caring ... cried so many tears I am done
JellyBabiesSaveLives · 26/12/2020 23:04

food drops provided by the army
😂
You do know the Armed Forces have 145,000 personnel? That’s not enough to do a rapid test on 4.3 million school children, let alone do food drops. Where are they going to drop the food, anyway? I feel it might be more efficient to let the supermarkets continue to organise the food...

Shielding has been reintroduced for those in tier 4, in England, until 18th January.
designmama · 26/12/2020 23:05

On a more positive note, it is being reported that the Oxford vaccine should be getting approval on Monday 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

CauliflowerCheese30 · 26/12/2020 23:10

We're tier 3

Vaccines do not prevent transmission- as such they will not facilitate a return to normal life.

We will have significant restrictions in place indefinitely. I certainly do not expect household mixing indoors to be allowed at all in 2021.

The sooner we have a proper lockdown in place, with everyone indoors at all times unless a key worker, the better.

nether · 26/12/2020 23:12

I saw someone put their bin out earlier!!

You do know don't you that in lockdown 1, the CEV were actually told not to put their bins out - too risky

EasterIssland · 26/12/2020 23:13

This thread is depressing. Hope they don’t get ideas from here.

Delatron · 26/12/2020 23:15

Good god. ‘Everyone indoors at all times’. What madness is this?

480Widdio · 26/12/2020 23:16

No idea and couldn’t care less,not abiding by any rules now,whole country being destroyed in front of our eyes.

The only people complying with the rules now are the ones who are financially stable.

Who cares about kids and having a roof about our heads ! COVID is the only thing that kills people !

And I’ve followed the rules ... I’ve even refused to mix over the Xmas period ... but some of the ideas from this thread would put many people in the border of poverty and suicide ... and that also kills people vulnerable or not.

Yes, my cousin was incandescent with rage at the level of fearmongering he got as a shielder.
StealthPolarBear · 26/12/2020 23:17

My understanding that the evidence for prevention of transmission isn't there yet but will be confirmed. I don't think it's as gloomy as that.

AcornAutumn · 26/12/2020 23:18

@Delatron

China.

Spain didn't allow children to go outside at one point, i think.

designmama · 26/12/2020 23:19

Not sure what ideas you are referring to?

AcornAutumn · 26/12/2020 23:20

@EasterIssland

They have their ideas already. Why do you think park benches were sealed off? They're fucking batshit power crazy arseholes.
donewithitalltodayandxmas · 26/12/2020 23:20

Reckon all go tier 4 on the 30th it think they will send schools back still as they seem to ignore any spreading via schools and they have tests they think being done
Would actually rather so a short sharp hard lockdown with ramping up of vaccinations so we don't have to keep going in and out of tiers

SoftSheen · 26/12/2020 23:20

Vaccines do not prevent transmission- as such they will not facilitate a return to normal life

This is incorrect. Some vaccines prevent transmission, others don't. At this point, we don't know whether any of the COVID vaccines prevent transmission or not.
