So when will the next lockdown announcement be?

Just that really.
They've been kind and given us Christmas Day and Boxing Day off.
But, they will make an announcement, soon. Right?

@LitPeach

But the vaccines don't need to prevent transmission in order for us to return to normal life (although that would be a definite plus).

They just need to stop the most vulnerable from needing hospital beds in order for the NHS to function.

The government won't tank the economy anymore than it already has to prevent low risk people catching covid once the hospitals are able to cope.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 26/12/2020 23:23

@LitPeach don't be ridiculous people will mix inside by then
I know i will be regardless if any rules not doing another year of this crap
And you have no way of knowing that its really scaremongering for people who may be really down
Just a few weeks ago where I was we could mix indoors so no need to think we won't be able to for whole of 2021

LitPeach · 26/12/2020 23:24

@AcornAutumn

Yes, in Spain DC weren’t allowed outside at all for two months. In order to keep people safe.

Here meanwhile we have people going out multiple times per day for totally non essential reasons like buying gin and walks in the park Hmm

Delatron · 26/12/2020 23:25

Worked really well for Spain didn’t it. Locking kids up for months. So unnecessary

Delatron · 26/12/2020 23:26

Love to see all the scientific evidence that show walks in the park aren’t safe.

Thank goodness we're not in Spain. I have one contact there who had problems persuading her DC back out again, not surprisingly.

I'm hoping Lit is joking.
Delatron · 26/12/2020 23:28

I @AcornAutumn I hope she is. I’m worried she’s not!

whydontkidscomewithauserguide · 26/12/2020 23:29

I would bet it will be the start of the week before the New Year, although the majority of people that I know are being sensible anyway. I was really surprised at the lack of people out and about today and also yesterday, normally see families with kids and their new bikes/scooters pottering about!

DumplingsAndStew · 26/12/2020 23:31

All of mainland Scotland is in Level 4 for - I think - 3 weeks from today.

EasterIssland · 26/12/2020 23:31

@AcornAutumn I’m Spanish and I agree with you. I know many kids who didn’t even go out when allowed because they were too scared about it. Also kids in Spain must wear a face mask when are over 6yo. Everyone has to wear it on the streets. And they’re doing as bad as here. (They’ve only had 1 lockdown)

Also worried that masks outside will happen here.

Bagamoyo1 · 26/12/2020 23:39

@LitPeach

Vaccines do not prevent transmission- as such they will not facilitate a return to normal life.

We will have significant restrictions in place indefinitely. I certainly do not expect household mixing indoors to be allowed at all in 2021.

The sooner we have a proper lockdown in place, with everyone indoors at all times unless a key worker, the better.

I think perhaps a democracy is not for you!
TramaDollface · 26/12/2020 23:42

I just want to know about the schools

I can’t see them being able to open before half term

I don’t know if I’m being a massive drama queen

Just hate all the uncertainty

Valenciaoranges · 26/12/2020 23:43

I guess the decision will be made based on how quickly the virus is still spreading post Christmas. If we have a full lockdown, it needs to be really strict to avoid it all happening again. I

CabinClose · 26/12/2020 23:44

LOL at the idea of no indoor household mixing in 2022. Indoor household mixing was allowed yesterday.

wasgoingmadinthecountry · 26/12/2020 23:46

I'm in full support of parents choosing to keep primary children at home if they have vulnerable family members. We can't do anything about the meet ups in the parks and the sleepovers that still go on! I get very scared at work in school as an older cv teacher (though I actually forget all about it when I'm working with children and love the way they are loving school). Parents are STILL sending children in with bugs/temperatures/rashes.

It seems to me such a no brainer to give us adults in school the jab as soon as possible so we can get back to work properly and safely.

I don’t have a garden. Of course going for a walk with my 6yo DD is fucking necessary.

DecemberDiana · 27/12/2020 00:29

That had to be a public health issue in itself to not allow kids out for months.

At least the people on parks were doing themselves some good with the sunshine.

We were

But the police with their megaphone announcements and the massive signs in the park about being watched on CCTV upset me so much, i did end up not going out for a couple of weeks, which in a small flat isn't good. But it became a hard choice as to which was worse.

Then I got pretty close to the edge and don't remember much till the Stay Alert phase and the brief respite from tyranny before face masks were made mandatory.

No more shocks for me. Optimism took me very close to the edge. I've learned my lesson.

LitPeach · 27/12/2020 00:41

@Luckyrabbitfoot

The purpose of the restrictions in Spain was to save lives and keep people safe.

That is just a tad more important than DC playing in the park or buying wine from Tesco Hmm

DecemberDiana · 27/12/2020 00:45

We are all at home until 18 January. Glumsville.

I am optimistic for spring however. If I can visit family in their garden it will be something. My aims are quite low..

DecemberDiana · 27/12/2020 00:47

Low vitamin D and lack of exercise wasn't doing people any good. Spain appeared to do badly despite harsh lockdowns.

StrawberryTot · 27/12/2020 01:10

I think before the new year, and I suspect a lot more will be in tier 4 after the whole mad exodus of London. Well that’s what I think they’ll link it back to as it’s not the pubs fault this time.

PrincessNutNuts · 27/12/2020 01:45

I hope within days.

I fervently hope they won't just fartarse about with the tiers this week.

In three weeks we'll be back in the horror that was April I think.

(I don't like lockdowns any more than anyone else but I like thousands of British people dying unnecessarily every week even less.

And since the government has failed to control the virus, this week Lockdown is pretty much the only option left.)
