Did anyone else think the Queen was taking a subtle swipe at the government when she said life must go on?

No

I thought her speech was absolutely perfect

iamusuallybeingunreasonable · 25/12/2020 17:23

I thought she looked and sounded tired, bless her

Dongdingdong · 25/12/2020 17:24

No.

Grandtheft · 25/12/2020 17:25

No, it was spot on

So did I.
PatchworkElmer · 25/12/2020 17:28

No, I thought it hit just the right note 🤷🏻‍♀️

Janaih · 25/12/2020 17:29

She had an impossible brief, and she absolutely nailed it. Bravo Liz!

EdithWeston · 25/12/2020 17:31

I thought it was a good one.

And I am in awe of the military band who played on horseback

Same. ‘Is he actually conducting on a horse... omg they’re actually playing their instruments on horses! See, as a nation we’re not completely useless at everything!’
picklemewalnuts · 25/12/2020 17:38

She was perfect. Such Grace and dignity.

the80sweregreat · 25/12/2020 17:39

She hit the right tone and it wasn't too sad either. Quite inspiring I thought.

RedRosie · 25/12/2020 17:40

I thought it was perfect as well. She hasn't put a foot wrong during this crisis.

Helenj1977 · 25/12/2020 17:42

Lovely speech but I thought she looks much older then her last speech this year.

sashagabadon · 25/12/2020 17:43

It was a great speech. No idea if she writes them herself or has a writer or a bit of both but she always gets it right imo

Splodgetastic · 25/12/2020 17:44

I felt sad when she said all a lot of people wanted was a hug and I know that was true for DF even though he said a Zoom call was his best present. I did think that It was pretty amazing when I saw one of the guards playing trombone on horsback -

Splodgetastic · 25/12/2020 17:45

*horseback - posted too woon

the80sweregreat · 25/12/2020 17:46

I'm not a royalist at all but she's played a blinder on the speeches front this year and I did read she writes them herself too!
She is one bright articulate lady.
Shows the rest of them up!

Figgygal · 25/12/2020 17:46

Nope didn’t interpret it like that either
Made me cry though

Thethingswedoforlove · 25/12/2020 17:47

She is so amazing. The older I get, the more I appreciate her. And I’m no royalist.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 25/12/2020 17:48

It didn’t sound to me like something someone of her age would write but I bet she has plenty of input.
the80sweregreat · 25/12/2020 17:51

She is very aware of other religions and very knowledgeable about the world.
She also speaks fluent French.
(I think they might be in trouble when she's no longer around though , but that's years off)

Chloemol · 25/12/2020 17:52

No

laudemio · 25/12/2020 17:54

It was a perfect speech. I thought she was marvellous.

BananaPop2020 · 25/12/2020 18:03

@iamusuallybeingunreasonable and @Helenj1977 I agree with you both, I thought she suddenly looked far older than ever before. Perhaps it is because we have barely seen her this year?

rc22 · 25/12/2020 18:14

I thought it was great. I don't usually watch but was so moved by her speech in lockdown, I thought I would this year.
