Just thought I'd start a new thread for the north east lot as number 3 is getting pretty full!

@PennyDreadfuI hope you're ok and hope you don't mind me picking the thread up!

It was the AZ vaccine I had, second dose.

My mouth is watering at the Greek menu. I feel an expedition coming on...

NoseringGirl · 31/05/2021 22:53

Thanks @myrtleWilson
I hope your DD is as okay as she can be Thanks

TheSilveryPussycat · 03/06/2021 22:47

I see Ryanair is going to operate flights from Durham Tees Valley/Teeside Airport, in fact the first one out was Tuesday afternoon according to the Northern Echo.

Which explains why I spotted (on FlightRadar) a Ryanair plane flying round and round said airport Tuesday morning, presumably to familiarise the crew with the surrounding area.

There is a station there, with one train per week I think, hope they will actually run trains there, atm it's bus or taxi from Darlington.

Thelm · 10/06/2021 21:59

How is everyone doing? This thread has gone a little bit quiet - hopefully that means we are all getting back to normality a little bit!

They are flying non stop over Darlo, I think they are training the pilots but my god the are so loud!

Has anyone seen Harrison Ford out and about in the are? He has been shooting Indiana Jones up here and has been walking around Newcastle and North Shields the other day!!

myrtleWilson · 11/06/2021 07:20

I've not seen him but plenty have, saw a tweet that said 'as far as i can tell if Harrison Ford tests positive for Covid next week then the whole of the NE will be in isolation' Grin

Someaddedsugar · 14/06/2021 19:36

Hope everyone's ok!

Hasn't the weather been lovely this last few weeks! We've now got flowers on our strawberry plant and our courgette plants which for someone like me is a massive shock! I'm usually the first to kill of a healthy plant Grin.

We're still working from home and I'm guessing with tonight's announcement that won't be changing anytime soon. I am definitely missing the conversations in the office now.

Hoping Brockbushes release their strawberry pick your own sessions for the weekend to give us something to do.

Having said that we've started potty training with DS and I think I'll have a full head of grey hair by the end of it. I didn't ever anticipate it being this tricky but I'm sure we'll get there in the end.

Has anyone got anything exciting planned for the next few weeks?

My new patio roses are coming into flower.
I am hoping to make a flying visit to Manchester to see DS. He is a firefighter and is at this moment kayaking along the Calidonian canal for charity.
Then down south to see my DM.

Both me and DH are now double vaccinated. DH couldn’t believe the queue at Arnison centre on a Sunday teatime for his. No side effects for both of us. I’m so relieved.
I feel sorry for Harrison Ford, the north east has gone slightly madGrin.
But the weather has been lovely and my peonies look amazing, but my hosta is a sorry site, the slugs are obviously very hungry Sad.

Someaddedsugar · 27/06/2021 07:06

I hope you got your visits and to see DS and DM @TheSilveryPussycat!

We’re both double vaccinated now too and thankfully no side effects here either other than a sore arm. So relieved after the side effects I had with the first one!

We’ve finally made the decision that we want to move house so it’s all been a bit crazy and I’m possibly being far too specific with my requirements for the new house. We’ve viewed a few and all have been lovely but just not the right house for us. Hopefully it comes along soon as we’re about to put ours up for sale and I’m dreading having to move somewhere short term to move again!

Good luck house hunting and selling @Someaddedsugar.
Was very impressed yesterday with the amount of young people getting vaccinated outside the gala, not impressed with the drinkers shouting abuse, very rude.
Hope everyone is enjoying seeing family and friends.
Shocked at County Durham covid figures but hopefully with everyone getting vaccinated the figures should drop.

Thelm · 27/06/2021 12:09

Hello. That’s disgraceful @MrsEWeatherwax that people were shouting abuse at people queueing. Was it anti vaccine stuff or just ‘general’ abuse?

@Someaddedsugar - how exciting for you. I hope the right house pops up for you! Are you wanting to stay in the NE?

There’s a farmers market again in our village today. I wanted to attend but I’m in quarantine until Wednesday. I’ve just completed a PCR test so hopefully that comes back negative. 🤞I have had both jabs so I’m not too concerned.

MrsEWeatherwax · 27/06/2021 12:19

Pretty much calling people idiots for queueing to have the vaccine, I mean it was 4 o’clock in the afternoon. They were probably drunk @Thelm. But no excuse.
As they were going from pub to pub they should have been having the vaccine themselves.

TheSilveryPussycat · 27/06/2021 15:35

Haven't made it south yet. Wanted first visit to go and see my son, but it now looks as if it will be August. Planning to see my oldest school friend - we have been friends since we were 8. She lives near Worcester, a part of the country I don't know.

I didn't realise how high Durham infections rates are - highest in England?!

DD and her DP went to Download Festival, which was a Covid test event, and had a blast. 10,000 attendees, no one allowed off site for the 3 days, but No Masks, No Social Distancing, and unlike other years, alcohol allowed in the main area. And the return of the mosh pit, everyone crammed in together dancing.

DH and 3 of his mates were at Download. All negative on LFT and PCR before they went. T&T on the app from Sunday, 10 days self isolating and one of them has just had his 5 day post event PCR come back positive 😪 DH hasn't had his result yet but we have all just had negative LFT's today 🤞
TheSilveryPussycat · 28/06/2021 13:20

That's a drag. DD's test has just come back negative.

Just been to visit a neighbour who works at Dryburn. He says A&E is relatively calm now.

myrtleWilson · 28/06/2021 21:40

hello everyone! @Someaddedsugar DD and I were at Brockbushes on Thursday last week - had an awesome collection of strawberries and I made some jam for the first time ever! I think weekend bookings fill up but weekdays were fine....

I've been out today as a covid community champion in NE (not Durham) getting people along to a drop in clinic - it was awesome. I met a lad who was desperate for his vaccine as his mom has various underlying health conditions and he really wanted to be safe for her. He was overjoyed as I took him over to the vaccine clinic - I stayed around until he was clear of his 15 mins and told him to text his mom straight away!

Someaddedsugar · 28/06/2021 22:49

Thanks everyone. @Thelm we're looking at Durham - currently just outside but thinking about school catchment areas. The only problem is houses appear to be very scarce at the moment (and especially if you're fussy like me ).

@myrtleWilson hope you and your DD had fun! We went last Sunday and DS had a lovely time.

@TheSilveryPussycat Download sounds like it was amazing for your DD. I'm really looking forward to the return of festivals and gigs. It feels like it's been such a long time!

Great to see so many people booking vaccines and attending the pop ups - although a shame about the abuse @MrsEWeatherwax. I also hadn't realised how bad Durham's cases were but hopefully they stay as people with mild symptoms and not hospital cases.

MrsEWeatherwax · 02/07/2021 18:42

Just bumping thread.
I am horrified at Durham city centre rates, worst in country Sad.
Hospital rates aren’t going up so that’s a relief.
Hope everyone has a sunny weekend.
We are going to the cinema. Fast and furious 9 here we comeHmm.

Someaddedsugar · 02/07/2021 18:53

Enjoy the cinema @MrsEWeatherwax!

I'm also shocked by Durham's rates. At work we've gone from it being encouraged to meet up outside to going back to video calls which is a bit disappointing. I feel like we're going backwards. Although as you say a big relief that hospital rates and death rates haven't risen.

I went to the Pity Me garden centre yesterday and they had some lovely plants if anyone happens to be looking for some. Also some lovely bunches of flowers for £1.50!

As the students have or soon will have left, it will be interesting to see if there is a drop off in rates/growth in rates given the profile of infections being prevalent in the 15-25 year olds...

Enjoy FAF9!!

Thelm · 02/07/2021 20:32

Yeah the rates in Durham city are pretty bad. Surely there can’t be that many people left to infect?

I’ve just been to the metro centre and it was as busy as I have seen it around the yellow mall restaurant areas.

MrsEWeatherwax · 02/07/2021 21:08

That’s what I was thinking, normally I don’t care about the students one way or another, but I would like them to go home now.
I did laugh when on the local radio they said people needed to stay vigilant. Not sure how I can see an invisible virusConfused.
I will enjoy the cinema, would you believe I haven’t seen the previous 9! ( I’m including Hobbs and Shaw). I’m planning on buying the biggest drink I can, so I can keep my mask off as long as possible Blush. I know, I’m not nice.
